He pulled me to him andlooked down at me. “Yeah. I do. And I think I might just do it.” He leaned hisface close to mine and kissed me. I wrapped my arms around his neck anddeepened the kiss. He pulled me closer to him. It felt so perfect. I had neverbeen kissed like this before. My thoughts ran from my mind and my worriesmelted. Hy heart ached from the sudden desire to stay like this forever. Hemoved away from me suddenly and moved to the window.
Someone was out there. My heart started racing as I joined him at the window.“What is it?”
He puta finger to his lips and moved to the kitchen. There was no sound coming fromoutside but Rook still thought there was something out there. I slowly followedhim trying not to make a sound. Then I heard it. Rain began to drizzle outsideand grew into a strong downpour. Then the sounds of mettle dragging across theground came. Fear was so overwhelming in me that I almost passed out. Instead icrept the the back door and locked it and snuck to the windows and locked them.Rook went to the front door and locked it.
Ashadow passed by the living room curtain. The dragging sounds continued untilit stopped by the back door. The doorknob rattled like someone was trying toopen it. I moved toward Rook. He turned to me and saw the fear in my eyes. Therewas only a hint in his eyes. Determination shone brightly on his face. Heturned back to the door and waited. I crouched under the window so the personwouldn’t see me.
Therattling stopped and it was quiet seconds before the scraping sounds startedagain, moving toward the window I was crouched under. My breathing becameshallow and my heart raced as I waited. Light tapping on the window began rightabove my head. I looked up at Rook.
Helooked back at me and we waited there, like statues for a few minutes till weheard the sound of the metal dragging sounds start to fade as the person walkedaway. I waited till i didnt hear anything anymore and stood.
“Nowhe's just taunting us.” I said putting my face in my hands. “Ugh.” My heart wasstill racing as well as my mind. “What if… He heard us talking and is trying totell us he knows what we we’re doing?”
Rooklooked at me. I could see in his eyes that he felt the same. This is nevergoing to end. I rubbed my temple. The stress and worry was giving me aheadache. “i don't know what to do…” She looked at Rook. “What if he didn'thear us? We could still follow through with the plan. We can still stop thisright? We have to.”
Rooklooked down for a few seconds, thoughts running through his head. “We stillneed to stay low… but I think your right. I don't think they heard you. Thiscan work.” He looked up and met my eyes. “I will keep you safe. I will fixthis.” He put his hands on my waist and and pulled me to him, resting hisforehead against mine.
Isighed softly and smiled. “I hope so.” He tilted his head up and kissed myforehead and walked to the kitchen. My heart was racing so fast. I sat down onthe couch and closed my eyes. This is going to be okay. We can do this. I heardRook in the kitchen looking through cupboards and I heard water running into mykettle. I smiled again. Tea sounds very good right now. Rook doesn't drink tea.Was he making me some?
Hecame out of the kitchen a few minutes later with a cup of tea and handed it tome. I smiled, “Thank you..” I closed my eyes and took a sip. It soothed mynerves and I took a deep breath. “So… what are we going to do…” I looked up athim. “If and when we do make it through this…”
Helooked at me with determination and anger. “I won't let anything happen to you.You are mine.” My heart skipped when he said that. I'm HIS. I looked down at mycup and smiled. “Don't worry. We will get through this. Together.”
Ilooked up at him. I didn't say anything but I felt like I didn't have to. Wejust sat there, looking at each other for what seemed like hours when finally Ilooked down and sighed. "I'm gonna go clean up." I stood and headed to thekitchen.
Iset my glass down in the sink and closed my eyes. I put my hands under thewater and splashed my face. We will make it together… I hope.
