A dream...The same one Seraphina was used to seeing time and time again. Feathers danced around her. A ripple was made when they touched the water that surrounded her. Darkness consumed the very space where she stood. The only light was the pure yellow hue that surrounded her small body. With her eyes closed she could hear it, the sound of wings flapping and metal clashing against each other. Slowly, she opened her eyes and they stared down at the pool. Images started to show beneath the water, tears fell from the cheeks of human-looking creatures and blood stained this strange looking Earth. As she watched the scene the rippling pool showed her, Seraphina could tell the battle was fierce and strangely familiar. The scene faded to black and she was left staring at her reflection. Her eyes left the pool and landed on a gate that now sat in front of her.
The gate gave off a menacing aura that sent chills down her very spine. The gate itself seemed far too familiar, just like the battle scene she saw just seconds ago. Whispers soon reached her ears, as she continued to stare at the gruesome gate, she felt as if the gate was calling out to her. Why?
Voices Seraphina felt like she knew all too well called out her name. Seraphina, Seraphina, Seraphina, over and over again. Seraphina, Seraphina, Seraphina, each time the whispers became harsher and crueler. Soon it was no longer her name being called. Seraphim, Seraphim, Seraphim, Seraphim, Seraphim!
Before she knew it fingers, cold as dry ice, laced around Seraphina's slender neck and her body fell backwards. A body loomed over hers, darkness covering it's body, as the body tightly gripped her neck. Her skin burned and tears stung her eyes as the stranger called out over and over again, Seraphim! Seraphina! Seraphim! Seraphina! Was it confusing her with someone else? She couldn't tell.
All the warm feelings in her body started to run cold as her life seemed to leave her own body. Vision blurring, her eyes started to close as the figure continued to chant. Seraphim! Seraphina! Seraphim! Seraphina! It's grip tightening at every word. As Seraphine started to loose consciousness the figure's chant started to turn into something else. Instead of her name it turned into a different word entirely. Why? Why? Why? Seraphim why? Why? Why? Why? That word started to fill her mind as even her hearing started to fail her. Why did you kill me!
Seraphina awoke with a start. Her head shot up from her desk, eyes widened. Sweat rolled down her face as she breathed unevenly. Her head started to ache and she placed a cold head to her heated forehead. Her hazy eyes went to the seat in front of her where Luz, her childhood friend, sat. Luz's beautiful sea-blue eyes stared at Seraphina with worry. From the looks of it class had already ended and her friend has been trying to wake her up for a while now. "Sera? Are you alright? Your face is so pale." Sera...the nickname Seraphina was given because her name was too long and hard to pronounce. Sera covered her face with her hands before letting out a shaky sigh.
The dream was still fresh in her mind. A little too fresh...Sera's hands went to her throat, she could still feel those icy fingers around it. She could feel them chocking her. As her hands clung to her throat she realized that her body was shaking. It was as if Sera was on the verge of crying. She hated that feeling, the feeling of being close to crying, the feeling of being weak. Sera's body soon jumped and her eyes focused themselves onto her worried friend's face when she felt Luz's hand over hers. Slowly and carefully Luz brought Sera's hands from her throat. "It's alright Sera...you're safe, you're no longer dreaming," her calming voice said as Luz smiled softly.
Luz....Luz always had this calming feeling that surrounded her. When ever Sera or anyone really was upset she would always cheer them up with her soft voice and calming smile. Sera always appreciated the fact that Luz had stayed by her side for so long, even though Seraphina was crazy. Everyone says that about her and avoids her. Everyone but Luz that is. Ever since they were children Luz was always around Sera. At first Sera hated it, but over time she got used to Luz's presence. Sera got into less fights because Luz was around her. Luz knew everything about Sera, from her favorite color to her darkest secrets. The same goes for Sera. Luz was Sera's only friend.
Sera's shaking slowly stopped and her breathing calmed. Her heart returned to its normal rhythm and her vision cleared up. Slowly her dream started to fade out from her mind. "I'm good....I'm alright now," Sera finally said after a long while. Luz's eyes scanned her friend's face before she sighed softly and her smile widened a bit. "That's good. I was really worried you know....I was calling your name and even shaking you but you weren't even waking up. And when you did....you gave me quite a fright."Sera gave her friend an apologetic look before taking her hands from her friend's and running them through her raven colored hair.
"It was that dream again...wasn't it?" Sera bit her lips before looking away, turning her gaze out of the window. Students were walking out of the school, heading towards cars, buses or home. She watched them for a long time before nodding a bit. "Yeah....that dream again...." Sera mumbled and clenched her hands. Her eyes narrowed. Every time she fell asleep she had that dream over and over again and each time something new happened. At first it was just feathers and now...now it was some crazy mystery person trying to kill her.
"Sera....are you sure you don't want to talk about this? If not me then to a therapist? Having dreams and reactions like this isn't healthy," Luz said softly. Sera turned her gaze to her friend and she frowned deeply. Luz knew Sera didn't like therapists. They made her feel weak and silly but this occurring dream was bothering Sera and Luz didn't like it. She worried about her friend. "I-I'm sorry...." Luz whispered before looking down at the back of her chair and the corner of Sera's tanned desk.
"Don't worry about, let's go." Luz looked at friend as Sera stood up and Luz stood as well. They gathered their things before walking together outside. After school activities and clubs had already started. They could hear the soccer team practicing on the field as they walked. A lot of the sport clubs wanted Sera to join since she was so athletic but she refused. Clubs and things like that didn't suit her. She would rather sit at home and watch silly cartoons then play some silly sport.
As they neared the gates of the school they caught the attention of someone who was also pretty popular. Nathaniel Overly. He was the soccer team's star and he was very good looking. He was one of the people Sera had put in the strange category. Every time he would see Sera and Luz he would drop what he was doing and rushed over to at least say hi. Luz thought it was nice of him but Sera only thought it was a hassle. "Sera! Luz!" Nathaniel called out as he ran over from the field and towards them. Luz stopped and smiled when she saw him.
"Hello Nat," she said with a soft spoken tone. It was a tone she used most of the time, when Luz was younger she used to be louder which made her annoying, so now she spoke softly and acted like a princess. Nat smiled when he stopped running and stared at the two. "Heading home so soon?" Luz nodded, "Yes. We have a test tomorrow in Biology and we should get home and start studying as much as we can." Nat's lips twisted into a half smile and he scratched the back of his head. Studying was never his forte. In fact Nathaniel hated the thought of studying.
A sigh escaped from Sera and the two looked at her. Her cold expression silenced them and they just stared. Nat glanced at Luz and she only smiled back at him. Sera's gaze went to Luz then Nat then back to Luz then away from the two. Staring at the two of them together....it made her chest feel tight and her head woozy and dizzy. A strange reaction that had been happening for the past two days. Ever since the Gate in her dream showed up. Sera's eyes narrowed when she remember that Gate. It frightened her. It wan't just the gate that frightened her though, it was what laid beyond it. Sera gripped her arm tightly and the front of her teeth bit down on her peach colored lips.
"Sera?" Snapping out of her thoughts her eyes went back towards the two, who now stared at her with concern. "I'm fine," she told them before dropping her arms. Her head started to pound and soon she couldn't hear what they were even staying. Shaking her head she placed a hand on Luz's shoulder. "I-I'm going to go on ahead." Luz gave her friend a confused yet concerned look before nodding.
Letting her hand slip from her friend's shoulder Sera started walking. She held onto the strap of her bag tightly. She didn't know where her feet were taking her and honestly she didn't care. All she cared about was making this dreadful headache of her stop. Before she knew it her feet had taken her to the park, near the school. Sighing once again Sera walking over to an empty swing set and sat down.
Slowly she swung her self a bit as her gaze stayed on the ground. No matter how many times she tried to think of something else, her mind would always go back to her dream. It was started to consume her every thought. Why was it so vivid this time? Who was that? Why was that person so angry? So many questions which Sera had no answers to. This irritated her greatly. She liked having answers to everything.
Suddenly screams broke Sera's concentration and she started to notice people running around. Fear spread all over their faces. What was happening? Sera didn't have to wait long for the answer of this question. Slowly she stood from the swing and her eyes went to where everyone was running from. Her eyes widened and her heart pounded at the sight. Her mind drew a blank.
Right in front of her were these, these creatures! No, they were monsters! They were coming out of no where! Well, that wasn't really true. The monsters were coming out what appears to be a huge hole in the ground. A red hue illuminated from the hole and just staring at it made Sera shiver. The monsters just kept coming and coming, it seemed like there was no end to them as long as that hole stayed opened.
The monsters growled like hungry beasts and started attacking or chasing everything they saw that was moving. Sera wanted to run, she wanted to run away just like everyone else. Her legs wouldn't move though. They stood there in place, shaking like a child's, as she watched a poor helpless man get jumped and tore to shreds. The sight of blood made her eyes widen and soon her heart beat started to slow down.
Her eyes slowly looked up when one of the monsters jumped in front of her. It sniffed the air and it's many eyes darted away, looking everywhere for things that were moving. It had a long snout and sharp fangs. Drool dripped down it's fuzzy lips and it's six eyes in total sat on the side of it's head. The beast was huge, and it loomed over Sera. Fur covered it's body all the way down to it's claws which were long and black. The beast seemed to have a long rat-like tail as well.
Sera gulped and her body started to shake. She stood there frozen, as the beast sniffed and looked around. It hadn't noticed her. This monster hadn't noticed her, and it was blocking her from the other ones, this was good. As long as she stood still she should be fine...right?
Unfortunately fate had other plans. The monster took one big sniff of air before all six of it's golden eyes landed on her. A noise left Sera's lips and the beast brought its head lower towards her. It growled and steam floated out of it's nostrils. Finally, Sera took a step back but that was her mistake. The beast bared it's fangs before launching at her and....
