Sawyer looked at the man's extended hand and, through social habit and conditioning, shakes it with his own. The man smiles slightly and says something to an unseen person outside Sawyer's room, (Is it really?, thinks Sawyer. He decides that it is in fact his room. Even if it is not, it is similar enough to be assumed as his.) saluting when the talk is over.
"Sawyer Jackson." the man repeated Sawyer's name, mulling it over with a mix of silent awe and what seemed like fear. "I should explain. The codes said I would have to. Slightly unfortunate, but whining gets nothing done. If you would come with me?"
Sawyer nodded, hoping that this fidgety man would do as said and explain what was going on. The man took Sawyer's hand and led him out the room into a grand hallway. Royal purple silk curtains adorned every window and thistle colored carpets embraced the floor and stairs, which Sawyer and the man descended.
"I'm sure you are very confused, but will you answer a few questions?" The man looked at Sawyer expectantly and Sawyer nodded, not knowing what to do. "Wonderful. I promise this will be but a short inquiry. What do you know? Do you know why you are here? Do you know how you got here? Do you know who got you here?"
To all of these questions Sawyer gave a resounding no, shaking his head left to right six times total. This coaxed a sigh from the man, who then stopped in front of a portrait of a regal woman dressed in a fuchsia dress. Her eyes seemed to glow with an enthusiastic energy, despite being made of acrylic and oil.
"To start, my name and title. Grand Ambassador of the Engel People Eugene Mark." GA Mark glanced at Sawyer's confused expression. He sighed ever so slightly and clarified. "As the Grand Ambassador, I am in charge of maintaining and improving relations with the other nations. I have to make sure that foreign nations see the Engelican Nation in good light."
"The Engelican-" Sawyer suddenly knew where he was. The People's State of Engelica. Words of warning flooded to his mind.
"If you are ever unlucky enough to be in Engelica, don't listen to their soothing lies of peace and prosperity. Just run. Run as fast as you can, you hear?" the memory of Sawyer's mother told a much younger Sawyer. In the present, Sawyer was nervously looking about the room, looking for a way out, looking for a place to run to. He was so concerned with escape he didn't notice that they were suddenly outside in an expansive and verdant garden. Purple seemed to be the main color pallet.
"Did you get all of that Sawyer?" asked GA Mark, strolling through deep tyrian flora and past groups of people all draped in elegant purple garbs. He glanced away from a row of roses for a moment to see a movement he had begun to dread. A shake the head. "Very well. If it's fine with you, I'll just summarize my lengthy- and very well done- explanation. You are the Decider, who was selected by-" GA Mark was promptly interrupted by a dark-skinned, fair-haired woman dressed in a mauve suit.
"Grand Ambassador Mark, it's time for the Common Council to assemble." The woman looked down at Sawyer and offered an extended hand. "Lord Decider, please, come with me know."
"A few seconds please comrade. I still have to cover a few topics." The dark-skinned, fair-haired woman nodded and stepped a few feet away, patiently waiting. GA Mark bent down and put looked Sawyer in the eyes. "I'll be brief. You are the Decider and you were selected by a very powerful cosmic-"
"GA Mark, not to interrupt, but the Common Council isn't known for their patience." The fair-haired woman checked her watch and tapped it almost as a warning.
"Of course comrade. Sawyer, listen. As the Decider you will visit each of the 6 Global Superpowers. After you will meet with the cosmic being and he will ask you a question. You will have to answer that question. Good? Good. Now go, the Council is waiting." GA Mark awkwardly patted Sawyer on the shoulder as the fair-haired woman ushered Sawyer away. Sawyer stole one last glance back at GA Mark, who, for some reason, looked afraid.
"Salutations Lord Decider. My name is Arch-Ambassador Bianca Gregory. I'm here to assist you in your meeting with the Common Council. Did GA Mark explain what they are?" AA Bianca looked only forward as she led Sawyer through a maze of orchids.
"I don't think so..." answered Sawyer, still glancing around the garden as he was pushed along a cobblestone path. He could see no end to the purple grandeur except the building he came from and what looked like a city in the far distance.
"They are the most powerful group of elected representatives that help govern this nation. The actual number of them varies with the population, but currently they are at about 3,000 strong. A quick warning, it can get very... Loud and confusing in there. But no worries, as long as you let me handle things, we'll get through this with no problems." AA Bianca stopped suddenly in the middle of an ornate platform. Strange patterns that Sawyer vaguely recognized circled a glowing stone set in the dead center. AA Bianca said something in another language and the platform slowly descended into the ground, with Sawyer and AA Bianca on top of it.
