By the time we were done talking in the field it was already dark outside. He led me back to the house and we walked in a happy silence. I could get used to this place. I just wish that Alissa could see it. I had still never made up with Chloe from our fight but I wish she could see this too. Even my mom. This is a new world, so different from the one I'm used to. When we reached the house I noticed 2 other people that I hadn't met yet. They were talking to Celia outside.
"If he changes Emily then he loses his walking blood bag so don't worry," said the tall muscular one said reasurringly. He had dark brown hair and grey eyes kinda like mine. The other one had shoulder length black hair, not as black as Celia's, and brown eyes. They're skin was pale and they were handsome so I knew what they were.
They all looked up and bowed when me and Nixon approached. The one with shoulder length black hair looked up at me and winked. That earned him a growl from Nixon. The others laughed in response. Nixon let go of my hand and gestured towards Celia.
"Keep her company, I have some things to look over," he said and entered the house. I wonder what type of business that was.
When I glanced back at the group they all gave me amused eyes.
"She's got it bad," said the tall muscular one in a deep teasing voice.
Celia hit him on the arm, "Quit it Fredrick, he's got it worse," she said winking at me.
The one with shoulder length hair kept staring at me. It wasn't a stare that meant he didn't like me. It was the opposite.
Fredrick looked between us and laughed, "Nixon will kill you Kane."
I cleared my throat and looked at the open door that led to the kitchen. Emily was in there preparing dinner with the 2 other maids. She noticed me looking and she waved at me. I waved back.
"Don't talk to that piece of shit!" Celia barked loud enough for probably the whole Romanian country side to hear.
We all stood wide eyed staring at her. I heard Emily drop something in the kitchen and run off deeper into the house. The maids just cleaned up what she spilled on the floor and sighed. Fredrick and Kane just laughed at the situation. The only one concerned for Emily's feelings here seemed to be me.
I folded my arms across my chest, "Did you have to do that?"
Celia just smirked and shrugged, "The little bitch stole Cas from me."
Kane cleared his throat and murmured, "More like he left."
Celia shot him a glare and he stopped laughing, "We were in love for 30 years and 1 measly little girl came and ruined it."
"So he told you that he likes her?" I asked resisting the urge to go comfort Emily. I didn't want to be on this woman's bad side.
She nodded sadly, "We we're made for each other. Cas and I. But she started working here a year ago and something changed in him. At first he was always saying that humans were dull minded creatures. Then he's entranced with some 18 year old girl."
I nodded and noticed that the boys were just shaking their heads.
She continued, "All the signs were there. He was always in the kitchen or walking by her room on the second floor. He made sure that she ate properly or was alright. When I asked him about it he said that she just smelled good to him. But I saw him with her, I knew. The worst part is that, he loves her more than he loves me."
I shook my head, "You can never be sure of that. Maybe he's just attracted to her...smell."
Fredrick laughed, "Celia just can't imagine that she would be discarded for someone else."
This earned him a brutal kick in the ribs from Celia. He flew back into the onion plants and landed with a huge thud. Everything happened so fast. Soon enough he was up and in front of Celia's face. He gave her a blow to the stomach and she flew back further down the hill. Her white dressed had ripped a bit at the bottom from flying through a bush. Small pieces of leaves and branches were scattered in her hair. They were both still smiling at each other as if this were a game. Fredrick then took off zooming after Celia and into the field.
"Yeah, they do this all the time," said Kane giving me a polite smile. I turned to observe him. Why were all vampires hot?
I laughed, "I can see that. And what do you do?"
He shrugged, "I just sit in the background and do some soul searching," he said sarcastically. Ah, so he had jokes.
Emily appeared from the door and smiled at me timidly, "Dinner's ready Miss." Miss? What happened to calling me Aubrey?
I gave her a questioning look and turned back to glance at Kane. He motioned for me to enter the house before him. The kitchen smelled amazing. I knew it was pasta when I smelled the familiar sauce. It wasn't exactly like mom made but it was certainly similar. Emily didn't even turn to look at me. She just led me to the huge dining room and motioned for me to sit down by the head of the dining table.
Kane sat down across from me and called Emily, "Bring me Daisy." Its dinner time so I guess she's a feeder.
One of the maids from earlier brought me a bowl of pasta and they also brought a bowl for Kane. I thought Vampires didn't eat food. They laid out 7 bowl's of pasta in total. I guess everyone would be eating. Wouldn't that be awkward?
Nixon and Casanova came into the dining room grinning. They seemed to be enjoying a private joke or a recent conversation. Nixon's eyes went to mine instantly and my heart beat faster. He gave me his dazzling smile and I tried to give one back but it probably came out looking a bit jumpy. Casanova laughed and slapped Nixon on the shoulder before sitting by Kane on the other side of the dinner table.
Nixon came over to the head of the table and sat by me while sending a wink. I giggled and reached out to take his hand on the table. He seemed in a considerably good mood since we talked. I felt as though we were closer now, and still I was worried. A short brunette entered the room followed by Emily. She wore the same black dress and flats that the maids had on. Her hair was tied back in a ponytail that reached the middle of her back. The thing that took me back were her blue eyes. They looked so.. sad.
She walked over to Kane and bowed. He kissed her hand, "Have you rested well Daisy?"
"I doubt that matters Kane," she said in a whisper. I tried to listen more carefully into their conversation. I thought all the humans in the house were here by there own will. She seemed unwilling.
He chuckled at her response and motioned for her to sit in his lap. He was just kissing her neck at first and I could have sworn that she was silently moaning. I felt like hiding, it was all to erotic. When I looked back at Nixon he was talking to Casanova like nothing was going on. Emily was in the corner waiting to be of service and looking at Cas every time she got.
Kane's eyes started to glow and his fangs extended into her neck. I waited for the scream but she sounded blissful. It was hard to watch without being confused. I had been bitten twice and both times it hurt like hell. I couldn't help but feel a little uncomfortable. I noticed that Nixon was still talking to Cas but his eyes had changed. They were glowing, he must have smelled the blood. I really didn't want to be bit again.
I cleared my throat causing everyone to stare at me, "Uhm, I'm tired. I think I'm gonna go sleep," I said getting up leaving the leftover scraps of my pasta in the bowl. I had eaten much of it. I regretted it when I saw the blood dripping down Daisy's neck. She was sighing in pleasure and I had the urge to throw up at the sight of her blood.
Before I bolted out of the room I saw cautious eyes gazing into my soul. How would I explain myself? How would I tell him that I didn't want this type of life? I wanted to eat food with normal people. I didn't want to have to see a scared girl be fed on while eating ravioli.
I passed through the kitchen and began heading up the main staircase. Celia and Fredrick were walking down the stairs and laughing with one another. They made a cute couple, but I sensed that Celia didn't feel the same. They just smiled at me and I smiled back. That would be one awkward dining room.
I made my way to the third floor and opened my bedroom or me and Nixon's room. The balcony doors were closed and the bed was made. The room was extravagant. I began looking for my phone. I'm pretty sure I had it with me when I passed out in school. I found my no trace of my phone or old clothes. I began to become desperate looking through all of the drawers and every crevice of the room.
Under his closet was a small compartment. I pulled the latch and opened it up to be revealing my phone and something underneath. I checked my phone first and it had been switched off, hopefully its charged just enough. I then pulled a picture frame from underneath and gasped. It was my picture.
I had on a tank top and skinny jeans with converses. I was 12 when my mom decided to take me to Coney Island with her so that we could bond over something. I realized that I missed her. I missed my old dull life as crazy as it seemed. But if this was was the talisman that he was using to create our dreams, then he would notice if I took it. I thought quickly. Running over to the other side of the room I opened a drawer. I could only guess that it was mine since I found an abundance of white dresses in different patterns. I blushed when I opened the next drawer and found underwear in my size.
Under that was a drawer that contained my old clothes and old shoes. Odd. Nothing else was in there. Before I could talk myself out of it I began to change. Dinner would end any moment and he would come up here. After I was changed I looked at my reflection in the mirror. Flowers were still embedded in my hair. I began to pull them out and my eyes were growing watery. The braid now looked dull as it usually does back home. I ran over to the latch that held my Coney Island picture. I couldn't get the latch to open for some reason.
"Come on," I whispered begging the latch to open for me.
"Need some help," said the same familiar voice from my dreams. But I don't remember the voice sounding this harsh.
