Like she promised, 3 hours later Hannah arrives at my house, smiling bright and in a way too expensive dress for the cinema. Talking about overkill. Did I mention Hannah is from a rich family? Well, she is. That's another reason why I don't know why she wanted to be my friend. Although I always act so cold towards her, I really appreciate her.
But I really have to get her to stop giving me expensive presents... I almost feel guilty. “Ya-hoo! How are you Diana?” she asks as soon as I open the door and hugs me. “uhm, good I guess,” I give a plain answer. I inspect her a little more detailed. “Isn't that purse a little bit too small for, you know, carrying stuff?” I ask pointing at the accessory.
“I think it's cute! And that's what matters! But forget about that boring old thing,” boring old thing, I scoff in my mind, “tell me everything that happened yesterday! You can't hang up this time~” she sings while grabbing my arm and dragging me to her car. This is going to be fun.
“So? Did he call you last night? Or today? I bet he did. Did he sound nervous? Oh my gosh I have to know! Speak child, tell me!” I look at her with my eyes squinted, judging her silently. “If you let me, yea, ok, sure,” I respond, crossing my arms and looking outside. “He texted me,” I finally say.
“Ehhhh? That's all? Wow, I never thought that he would be that...” what? Uninterested? Busy? Boring? “... embarrassed!” huh. Excuse me. She giggles slightly closing her eyes. Ey, ey, watch the road, would you! “Annnnnnnd?” I look confused at her expectant look. “And what?” “Did you text back? Hello?” she exclaims with a pout.
“I was... trying.” She hums in understanding. “But don't get me wrong! I wasn't anxious or anything, there was just nothing I could have responded to his texts,” I finish, waiting for another comment from Hannah. “If you say so Diana,” she simply says with a generous smile. What's with this reaction? I quickly avert my gaze and close my mouth before she realizes.
“What did he text then, exactly?” she asks, eyes glued on the road, in contrast to before. “He wrote ' Hey Diana! Oliver here. Just wanted to thank you for coming with me, it really made my day! And enjoy my number' with a wink,” I recall. I glance at Hannah whose jaw literally dropped to the floor. “Uhm, are you ok- OH MY GOD LOOK AT THE ROAD!” I scream, whereupon Hannah snaps back into reality and jerks her head to the windshield with a terrified expression.
I hold my hand on my chest, breathing heavy, eyes wide, as everything turns back to normal. I slowly turn my head to face Hannah, whose lips twitch upwards in a smile every few seconds. “Whyyyyyyyyyy,” I whisper, Hannah letting out a short, nervous laugh. “C-come on, it's not like we would have died! I didn't even scratch the other car...” she simply says, being as pale as me.
I don't know about her, but I still want to live some years. “Anyway,” she begins, seeming to have calmed herself, “did he really write that?” how can you smirk after what just happened... What even is this woman. I sigh, resting my head on my hand, trying my hardest to ignore her teasing for the rest of ride.
I don't even know what movie we're going to watch.
