Left behind the soul's locks
A tender heart
Rests on cloth embroided with shamrock
For I, about to depart
Would guard it like a goshawk
Even if we're apart
This is what the small star thought
But as she had a simple mind
Knew not that both cannot
The Star and the Sun combined
Exist on the same sky for naught
She would try, that small star
But the more she tried to be
Brighter than the sun by far
She'd be met with a terrible fee
Pieces fell from the heart of the star
And for every piece so carefree
She'd grew darker just like tar
Still, the sun would not see
That devoted small star
Now only one piece remained
For the star so small
Shining had become so strained
Would be hard to see her at all
Dusk had come, skies stained
The last try before her fall
Last piece of the heart so pained
The small star's downfall
As the sun finally set
Thought the small star to herself
"I should not fret
Close to the sun myself
Shall be for the last moment yet"
But as the star was just so small
And had such a simple mind
She didn't know what would befall
Where the sun really declined
Or that where she left for nightfall
No sun or even a star she'd find
