The blade wavered, and I let it drop. I kept my other hand on his neck, no longer digging my claws into his neck, but exerting a gentle pressure nonetheless. My eyes darted to his lips, slightly parted and beautiful, and looked back into his eyes, a dark swirling grey. Everything was still. I closed my eyes and leaned into his body, and began to raise my lips to his. An image flashed into my mind, and I stopped, my eyes flying open wide, and I couldn’t see Ronyan anymore, but Wesley. Oh, Goddesses. I couldn’t hurt him, nor embarrass myself, by attempting to give Ronyan what I so badly wanted him to have. I realized just in time to save myself, and him, from any awkwardness, and tore myself away from Ronyan. I turned and fled, running as fast as I could before leaping into the air and beating my wings as hard as I could to get away from the scene of my almost disgrace. I didn’t even check to see if Ronyan was behind me, but I knew he must be. I hadn’t realized how much time had passed, for the sky was lightening and I could feel dawn tugging at my mind. I growled, and strained my wings, forcing them to beat harder and harder still. I had to get home. Little did I know that when I arrived, I would discover that my carelessness and my disregard had made me a murderer for the first time. Every murder that happened at their hands after that were also on my soul, and would be until I claimed retribution, and ended their lives. The hunters who claimed the lives of my clan and our allies would become my prey, and when I caught them... when I caught them, they would truly know fear.
