What an amazing place the wild oasis in the middle of the city was. The sunlight filtering through the trees caused dappled light to dance across the forest floor. The birds were singing a cheerful tune as they flitted from one hidden hollow to another. The city park was truly a majestic locale, yet there was not a person to be seen, besides James, of course.
As James walked, he couldn’t help but be taken in by the forest’s spell. It calmed him and removed the weight of his tasks from his shoulders. Before he knew it, James had lost his feeling of expediency. His desire to rush to work had fallen to the back of his mind. Instead he just stared into the trees surrounding him as he walked as if he was looking for some sort of exotic bird.
Now anyone who had been accustomed to the leisurely activity of simply going for a walk would know the hazards of staring into the trees or sky instead of looking where one is going. However, it had been much too long since James had been on such a walk for him to remember a trivial rule. As such, it was not long before James encountered a misfortune.
His shoelace loop got caught on an antler laying on the side of the path, and he was sent hurtling into the bushes. In said bushes James discovered that the antler he had gotten caught on was not alone. There was another antler in the bushes; along with a nearly complete deer head, and nothing else! The severed head was covered with long, deep scratch and bite marks, but no meat had actually been removed from the head. There were many flies swarming it, but not one dared to land.
