“So impatient!” I said as I plopped myself on her bed beside her.
“So?” she asked as she began to light a clove cigarette. “What did he have to say?”
She started to hand me a cigarette.
“No thanks,” I said waving it away.
She shrugged her shoulder and waited for me to tell her what Daniel had replied.
“He agreed to get coffee with me.”
“Anything else? she asked as she smiled blowing out a cloud of smoke.
I loved the way those cigarettes smelled. All surgery and sweet, mixed in with Maggie’s Halo perfume. It was kind of like her signature scent. I’d know it a mile away. It always gave me a warm and cozy feeling. Even to this day when I smell it, I can’t help but want to linger in it.
“Nope.” I said shaking my head.
Maggie just stared at me with her piercing blue eyes like she was trying to read my expression for something I haven't told her.
“Hmm.” she said taking another drag off her cigarette and tossing her blonde hair a bit.
“Okay, what ever you say Honey.”
“He didn't suggest anything else.” I said smiling “Seriously. It’s not like I really know him yet. I mean, we have classes together. We so happen too have all the same friends. That is pretty much it. I don’t even know his favorite color, or sadly his last name.”
Maggie giggled sending another cloud of smoke into the air.
“Alright.” she said, “What about the other guy you were seeing?”
“What other guy?” I asked grabbing the popcorn bowl.
“You know?” she asked, “The one you had a thing with?”
“Jordan?” I asked munching on popcorn.
“No, the other one!” she blew out another cloud of smoke.
“Patrick? From the club? We didn't have a thing. He called me all but two times and I only met him at the club because I hardly knew him.” I said.
“Noooo!” she said shoving me a little, “No, not Patrick! Jeez, you dated a lot this Summer!”
“Shut up!” I yelled throwing a pillow at her.
“Hey watch out!” she put her cigarette out, “You don't want to burn my room down. My mother would kill me!”
“You dated quite a bit yourself.” I accused, “Who are you seeing now?
“Jillian.”
“You’re still holding on to that poor girl?”
“Well, it is either her or John.”
“Oh hell no! He’s an ass!” I wrinkled my nose in disgust.
“So you see my situation here. This is not about me though. This is about you. I meant the other guy you were seeing; the one with the long hair?”
“Ooh. That one.” I sighed, “That one. We’re just friends.”
“That is a damn shame.” She reached over and ran her fingers through my hair and tussled it. “You are too good for him anyway.”
I looked away from her and started to watch the movie.
“It was a damn shame” I thought. He was the wrong guy at the wrong time though. Again, another story left for another day.
“I’m so tired!” Maggie yawned as she threw herself down on to her pillows.
“Want to just turn off the movie and call it a night then?” I asked
“Yeah, whatever.” she said as she sat up again to turn off the TV.
I began to pick up the popcorn that fell into the bed and back into the bowl.
“Sweetie, don’t worry about that,” taking the bowl from me and placing it on her dresser, “I’ll take care of that in the morning.”
“Alright,” I said yawning exhausted from the day.
I got comfortable and snuggled down beside her.
“Love you,” I whispered
“Love you too” she whispered back, “goodnight”.
