“Violin!” Asha held the word on one note as she ran down stairs to see if her wish truly did come true! Seeing the Violin on the coffee table in the communion room, she ran outside and shouted towards the clear blue sky.
“Thank you Lady!” She thanked the little bug that had heard her wish and took it to be granted. For the whole of next twee weeks, Asha practiced her small Violin, She was getting the hang of it quite fast and very little could separate her with her violin! She would even fall asleep with it, hugging it tight against her chest as she slept, enough so that no one could take it from her!
Her fingers had started to bleed after the first four hours of constant fiddling trying to figure out where each different sound was at, after Theo showed her the literal basic of how to get the sound out of the Violin. She didn’t cry nor did she mind, she only shoved her hand into Theo’s sight and watched him use his Healing Aura and then she would continue. This, and meal times, became the only time she would actually spend time with him, Cetcily or Tay!
After constantly fiddling, testing and practicing different notes and strokes of her bow, she finally started leaving her room to find new ‘practice’ grounds, which ended up being the green house, when Tay was there tending to the medicinal plants, or in the living room when her mother wasn’t doing her part in working as a Healer, especially now that Theo had a new Aid he was teaching, or rather allowing to get practical experience after being sent to Theo by instruction of the Institute of Medicine and Science. Theo prefered the Aid, Baron, doing Cetcily's work, so that she could spend the time with Asha and Baron didn't seem to mind at all, in fact he was delighted!
And of course Theo loved to watch and listen to her as they continued once again their end-day ritual of watching the sun set. He enjoyed every sound that she made on her new Violin, whether it was sound shattering terrible or as beautiful as a Mermaids song…
Another month passed and Asha rarely made a screeching sounds, except when her arms started to get tired, which was when she would stop practice for the day and start playing around outside like a normal 4 year old!
Music seemed to pour out of her naturally, and perhaps it was part of her Mermaid side that was finely tuned to sounds. He was still very intrigued by how the Fair Folk are able to bind their 'blood' to Elves and Humans as they had with Cetcily and thus Asha... Wondering what the purpose was for them to have done such was the greater mystery!
While sitting in his office, tending to a patient who came in with a broken arm - he had slipped on the dew wet steps of his home – he listened intently on Asha playing the Violin upstairs, enchanted by every sound that filled the quietness of the office.
It was rare for a patient to come to his home office for treatment, but his small clinic in the village was being renovated to add more space and comfort since twee weeks ago and so he temporally allowed patience into his home office for treatment.
“Such beautiful harmonic sounds! Is it that new aid of yours?” The man asked curiously.
“He must have practiced all his life to produce such perfect notes.” Theo’s patient complimented the unknown musician, thought to be the new Healer in training.
“You wouldn’t believe the truth even if you saw it.” Theo commented on the man’s words. Suddenly the sound stopped, Theo could hear scattering and then bare feet climbing down the stairs.
“Excuse me for just a moment.”
“Asha! I hope you’re wearing your scarf!” He stopped her midway down the stairs, having stepped out of the office briefly, to see her scampering back up-stairs to tie her scarf around her neck, Tay having done a perfect job yet again of tying up Asha’s hair around her tiny horns.
Though he didn't make any comments to why she had to wear a scarf when other people might see her or having her hair tied a certain way, Asha came to the conclusion that it was to prevent her from getting sick.
“Gi! Listen! Listen!” She said joyfully entering the office, where Theo was still busy with his patient, while the man took his time to register that the girl before him was only four (nearing five) and was holding a Violin ready to play.
The sound that came out was perfection itself, and the man could not believe that this girl was the one who hypnotized him just minutes before. And to stun him even more it was the very girl the everyone tries to keep their younger children from playing with her, and was always criticized and bullied by the older children.
“Asha… That’s beautiful!” Theo complimented her without once stopping his work, as he wrote instructions out for his new help who would take care of the rest, so that he could tend to the next patient. Asha had been practicing the specific song for some time now, a song that she was making up as she went along, her own song!
“How long have you been playing?” The man asked curious, forgetting to sound ‘hateful’.
“Gi?” She was unsure how to answer, after trying to count the days on her ten fingers, but could not count further than that.
“Just over two months now.” Theo answered the man.
“She’s a natural… I can’t believe it!” The man shook his head in amazement, but Theo could see it in the man’s eyes, he still would not accept the girl, the hate slowly returning to the man’s voice the longer he took notice of Asha’s little Elven ears...
