The Darkness formed into a hall it expanded seemingly endlessly both directions.
The thousands of doors lit up along both sides of the hallway a bright white light beamed from each door. Some seemed to be brighter than others.
Rin and Zhan Min looked at the doors. Hoping to find a clue as to where they had been sent.
As they searched their surrondings in their bodyless souls the curator lead them down the hall of lights.
"Welcome boys to the hall of legacies here you will find and choose the legacy you wish to carry in your blood" the light figure pointed for us to proceed down the hallway "once you find what you seek enter the doorway and embrace the power within."
Zhan Min walked confidently down the hall first with no hesitation. Sensing the various powers that tried to seduce him to selecting them was tempting, but he knew exactly which legacy he was going to pick. His families legacy.
Zhan Min stood up "respectfully I don't need any time to think about this I will be taking my families legacy."
Walking over to the figure of light "I need only that."
The mysterious curator floated above us silently.
"If that is what you most desire. Step forward."
The light formed into a humanoid shape and waved forward one of the doors of light. From a great distance. It came forward at speeds not humanly possible and stopped infront of Zhan Min.
"Step into the light and accept your legacy."
The being motioned Zhan Min to step thru. Zhan Min hesitated not due to fear, but a momentary feeling of doubt crept into his mind. Shaking this off Zhan Min strode into the door disappearing behind the light.
The humanoid fire turned to Rin.
"You are worthy to select a legacy young one. Please search to your hearts content."
Rin bowed quickly showing respect to the being.
"Thank you I will not take this privilege lightly" a question scratched at the back of his mind for awhile. Before he turned to the curator.
"Why me?"
Rin fidgeted in his place. As the being of light looked down on him? The immense pressure of its gaze causing his soul to shake.
"Tell me young man whose name is Rin, do you think life has been fair to you?"
The Curator said smugly.
Rin couldn't understand how one could even ask such a question his life had been nothing, but disappointment and hardship.
"No this life hasn't been fair to me."
Rin spoke confidently.
"The words of youth. So inexperianced and confused. Your life has had hardship, but unfair?"
The being laughed mockingly towards Rin.
"Young Rin you have yet to experiance unfairness in your life. There are children who die at young age. Yet here you are breathing still. All that you've gone thru has made you strong."
"You may not understand this, but life is a series of tests that refine and shaoe you into who you are. What you do with the powers and life granted to you is your choice whether for good or evil or....perhaps something inbetween."
The Curator's words struck harder then the guards boots that had beat him before. Rin knew deep down the Curator was correct. He had seen many children who died from illness yet here he was with an opportunity to change is fate and first thing he does is complain.
"Despite your disrespectful attitude and ungratefulness for the life the creator gave you. The heavens have seen fit to give you a chance to change your destiny. Though you don't deserve it. Prove that you are worth this gift we are granting you."
Rin felt the overwhelming pressure lift off him. As the being let off some of the pressure.
"I... I don't know what to say... I've put shame upon myself. My pride took on the form of pity. It won't happen anymore."
Rin felt the shame build up inside of him as he spoke.
"Thank you for shining a light on my flaw."
A joyful laugh erupted from the being.
"Young Rin you have much to learn, but I can see you take criticism well and that is the first step to wisdom, now let us not dwell on this and pick the legacy that you will inherit."
Rin willed his soul to move down the endless hall of doors. As he passed the various entrances the being described the legacy that lay within. As he continued down the corridor of darkness Rin stopped at a door that let out a emerald glow from within. A raging torrent of energy twisted and turned as it the energy was fighting itself.
"What....what is this one?"
The being stopped at the doorway.
"It is a legacy that none have chosen in over 3000 years all those who have held onto this legacy have had unimaginable power. However despite the power they gained none were able to conquer the torrent of energy within and they were slowly devoured from the inside."
Rin felt the power clawing to reach him.
"What is the power? Can one dominate such wild and chaotic powers even if they tried?"
"Ehh? Well naturally one can do it, but not without much work and with a indomitable will. For the power that lies within is the Jade legacy."
The name of the legacy hung on the air for awhile as Rin thought about the power he felt within and how desperately the power inside wanted to merge with him.
"I will choose this one."
Rin's confidence in his voice momentarily shocked the Curator who was not expecting the youth to choose so quickly and decisively. Well the Creator did choose him for a reason. Just like all who were chosen they would play a role in his plans whether they knew it or not.
The Curator smiled waving the door of emerald door forward.
"Go now. Enter into your legacies realm and merge your soul with it's power."
"What is inside?"
Rin said cautiously.
"Even I the curator of this place do not know what each person will encounter for every person is different. Good luck young Rin."
Rin breathed deeply as he stepped thru into the doorway of light. It was time to change his destiny and in order to do that he had to gain power in short amount of time for the tournament. This legacy would serve him well.
...
Zhan Min had entered the doorway of light found himself in the hot spring again was hit with an immense gray mist. As soon as it hit him it began to go into his lungs.
Is this the process of accepting the power of the Gray Mist legacy? Zhan Min willed himself to be calm.
The Mist enveloped his entire body and calmed down.
This can't be all that is involved... Zhan Min thought causiously.
A small burning sensation started in his muscles growing ever slowly. The Mist began to swirl indiscriminately thru his veins entering his very bones. As it reached into his marrow the pain became nearly unbearable. Zhan Min grimaced as he felt the power meld with his body.
Sweat rolled down his face while he tried to stop himself from crying out in pain. His bones and muscles ripped apart and reformed over and over until they accepted all the power of the legacy.
Zhan Min looked over to see another figure writhing in pain as well shrouded in a jade colored glow. Rin seemed to be fighting something besides the pain, but Zhan Min didn't really care about Rin at the moment.
After about an hour the pain in Zhan Min subsided and he could finally stand again.
"What a terrible experience! This isn't something I plan on ever doing again!"
"What would happen if I reached from the power my legacy gave me?"
Just as Zhan Min was about to test his new found powers a groan came from the side of the hot spring.
Rin laid their passed out from his ordeal.
Zhan Min sighed the kid wasn't ready to take in a legacy and he had suffered more since he wasn't as well trained nor did he cultivate his inner strength thru meditation before receiving one. Grabbing his and Rin's towel he wrapped Rin and carried him to his room. When this Kid woke... he will have to answer to him.
