You hadn’t slept at all during the day. Not one wink. Your head was still messed up about the events that went down during the ball and it was already time to get up. This evening couldn’t really start out any worse. Trying to push it all aside best as you could for the moment you decided to get up from your lying position and get dressed.
While you did that you kept mentally scolding yourself not to act stupid once you got down to the lounge. You didn’t want to dig yourself into a deeper hole than you already had and therefore you really had to manage acting casual somehow. At least, that’s what you told yourself. Act casual... Yeah sure. Easier said then done, though.
Once you made it down to the lounge your eyes immediately landed on Takuma, and you instantly froze. All the things from last night that you tried so desperately to push aside before going down came barging right back into the center of your attention and you started feeling lightheaded. And as if that wasn’t bad enough he just had to go ahead and notice you. Not that that was weird considering you had been standing there for quite some time now, but still...
During the day that had passed without you getting even a wink of sleep you’d had some time to think, even though your thoughts may not have been as clear as you’d wished they were. You’d come to realize the differences in your perspective positions. For you, this had all been fun and games up until this point, but if this all got out it could have pretty bad consequences for him. After all, he was a high level aristocrat and you were just a nobody. God only knows what could happen if your close relationship got out. This had made you wonder why in the world he was even spending time with you the way he did, but your unclear brain with lack of focus had not been able to provide you with an answer.
Out of pure fear for making the situation any more awkward than you already had, you quickly went to sit down on the opposite end of the couch from Takuma, with both Rima and Senri in between the two of you. This immediately earned you weird glances from almost everyone in the room. Well, everyone except for Kaname, to be more exact. He didn’t seem to give a shit. You had hoped that by still sitting with the same people, nobody would notice your slight change in behavior, but judging by everyone's expression this had not worked.
Trying to shake it off, you instead started a conversation with Rima and Senri. Unfortunately for you, they seemed more confused than anyone else in the room, and the tension soon got so thick you could cut it with a knife. So, you soon gave up on that plan as well, and simply shut your mouth and stayed quiet. ‘Great job (f/n). You had one job, to act casual, and you blew it’ you thought dejectedly to yourself as you lowered your head in embarrassment.
It didn’t take long before you were all headed to class, and entering the classroom you realized where you always sat during classes: right next to Takuma. Not wanting to cause a scene you simply sat down next to him with your head still lowered in embarrassment. He had obviously been able to read the situation as he didn’t utter a single word during the entire lesson, and neither did you. You were both used to sitting in complete silence together, but this was something new. This silence wasn’t calm and comfortable as usual, it was tense and awkward, as if both of you had rather ran out of the classroom as far away from each other as possible at that moment.
You hadn’t even been able to understand anything said during the lesson. Your mind was such a mess it might as well have been in greek. So, when you all finally headed back to the moon dormitory you couldn’t wait to escape to the confines and peace of your own quarters. So much so, in fact, that as soon as you reached the lounge, you quickly excused yourself and begun a fast walk toward your room. Once you were out of sight from the people still in the lounge the walk turned into a run. That run didn’t last many steps, though, before your wrist was forcefully grabbed and you were pulled into a nearby room.
Knowing whose room it was, you didn’t even have to see him to know who had pulled you away: Takuma. As soon as you’d been pulled inside, he closed the door and pushed you up against the wall with his hands resting on your shoulders. Your eyes immediately met with his, and it felt as if those green orbs could read your every emotion, as he was staring straight into your soul. After a few seconds that had felt like an eternity, you broke the staring contest by looking down, cheeks turning a light shade of pink.
You could hear a sad sigh escape his lips before he grabbed your chin, forcing you to look up at him. He took a deep breath before breaking the awkward silence. “(f/n), I’m sorry. I... I get it if you’re mad at me, just please let me at least try to make it up to you. You’re important to me and the last thing I want is for you to hate me over something stupid like this” he said, the sincerity of his voice unmistakable as tears started forming in the corners of his eyes. Just hearing the sincerity and pain in his voice while was enough to get you on the brink of crying as well.
“I don’t!” you managed to yell out, voice then getting stuck in your throat as you didn’t know what to say next. “I... I don’t hate you, and I’m not mad, it’s just...” At this point you really wished he didn’t have such an iron grip on your chin, as you desperately wanted to look down, or really anywhere but into his eyes, but you couldn’t. Instead you decided to close your eyes before you continued talking. “I realize that you weren’t thinking clearly, considering all the consequences being with a nobody like me would have on you. That’s why...” you said, opening your eyes to yet again look into his before finishing what you had to say. “That’s why I’m trying to forget and move on. I don’t want something like this to ruin our friendship, but I think I’m going to need more time” you finished, trying not to let the tears leave your eyes as you held back the sadness and deject in your voice.
Much to your surprise, he just pulled you into a tight embrace without saying another word. It grew silent for a long time, but the awkward air that had been around you two previously had been replaced by a sad, almost dejected, atmosphere. After a long silence, he finally spoke up again. “You can try to forget what happened yesterday as much as you want. But please remember this...” he said before releasing the hug, only to place his on your cheek before quickly connecting your lips in a short kiss. It was too short for you to even process what happened, but it was still enough to send your mind into a daze. “You should know that I was very aware of my actions last night, and I don’t give a damn what people might think about it. I love you, (f/n)” he said, his voice so sincere you knew he meant every word, and that was the last drop for you. You started crying. Along with the tears came stuttering and your voice got stuck in your throat as you tried responding.
After a long time of trying and failing miserably at responding, you finally got back your voice enough to stutter out a reply. “I-I love you too, Takuma” you stuttered, a smile plastered on your face as the stream of tears continued to flow. When hearing that, he pulled you into another tight embrace before yet again connecting your lips, this time in a much more careful and loving kiss. You didn’t waste any time before returning and immediately wrapped your arms around his neck in an attempt to pull him closer to you.
Then, the sound of a door being opened could be heard throughout the room, shortly followed by two monotone voices. “I knew it” Rima and Senri said in sync, making the two of you pull apart to look at them, deep blushes covering both your and Takuma’s cheeks. This was then followed by a rare sight; Senri actually laughed, even if it only was for a short while. “Alright, we should probably go ahead and leave these two alone” he said, still smirking as he grabbed Rima by the back of her collar, before dragging her outside and closing the door behind them.
Looking at eachother again, smiles formed on your lips as he gently wiped the tears away from your face. He then leaned down, giving your lips a quick peck before walking over to his desk, pulling out two books and holding them up while giving you a questioning look. You giggled slightly in response before going up to him and grabbing one of the books. He then took your free hand in his before leading you over to his bed, so that you could yet again sit there and read in each other's’ company.
As time passed by, you felt yourself growing increasingly tired, probably because you hadn’t gotten any sleep the previous day. To begin with, it was fine, and you simply leaned your head on his shoulder while reading, which he didn’t seem to mind. But, eventually your memories of that evening become hazier and hazier, as you are pretty sure you fell asleep shortly after.
Author's note! Well, first off I really want to appologize for not updating in so long. This is partly because of me having been so busy lately, and partly because I've been having a bit of a writer's block. This in turn is probably because I've been pretty much obsessed with another anime called "Akatsuki no Yona". I'm saying this because I've actually been considering making a fanfiction on that anime. More specifically, it'd be a Jae-ha x Reader, and I'm wondering if any of you would be interested. Also, if you haven't watched it, you really should because it's really underrated. Either way, I'll try to not make you wait as long for the next update. I hope you enjoyed this chapter and that you're looking forward to the next one! //Yours truly, Handsomesquid :3
