Being invisible in high school is weird, but being noticed after two years of being virtually invisible was even weirder. To top it all off, everyone thought I was a girl because of my 5' 3 1/2" stature and slim body. Like, I know I'm short, but it doesn't make me a girl.
"Hey, it's my girlfriend." I heard from behind me, only to see Drake as he walked up to me, "So, what are you up to?"
"I'm heading towards my lunch table." I said as I pointed to a booth in the school cafeteria in the back corner where nobody else goes.
"No." Drake said, "You should sit with me and my friends." I frowned.
"Thanks, but no thanks." I said, "Besides, I have a name. It's Nickolai Favaer." Drake smiled.
"So, Nicky?" Drake asked.
"Yeah, whatever." I said.
"Come on, my friends would love to meet you." Drake said as he brought me to his lunch table anyway, "Here we go." Drake had me sit down and then sat down next to me. "Everyone, this is Nicky," Drake pointed at me. "My new girlfriend. Nicky, this is everyone." I sighed and then waved at everyone with a fake smile on my face.
"What a nice face." a girl, possibly someone's girlfriend, said, "What kind of moisturizers do you use, Nicky? My name is Bethany Hiboott, by the way."
"Uh..." I said, "I don't use any."
"Really?" Bethany asked, "Your skin looks so smooth."
"Oh, really? I never noticed." I said.
"You probably know me." Brandon Elfling said, "There's nobody who goes to school here that doesn't know me." I mentally rolled my eyes, "But just in case you don't, I'm Brandon Elfling."
"Great." I said, trying to hide the sarcasm.
"And I'm Lukas Turner." a boy with bright green hair said, pointing at himself, "So, what was your last name, Nicky?"
"It's Favaer." I said.
"Oh, so you're Isabel Favaer's sister." Lukas said, "That's cool. Your sister is so hot."
"Wait, I thought Isabel only had a brother." Brandon said, "And there is no way you could be a boy. So, you're her cousin, right?"
"I am her brother." I said, causing everyone at the table to look at me like they were surprised, except for Drake, who was casually eating his burger with his headphones in.
"I don't believe it." Lukas said very loudly, causing Drake to take out his headphones.
"What?" Drake asked.
"Your girlfriend is making weird jokes." Lukas said.
"She's cooler that way." Drake said as he looked at me.
"So, Nicky, why haven't I noticed you before?" Bethany asked, "Are you new to this school?" I sighed and rolled my eyes. Drake finished his burger.
"No." I said, "I've gone here for two years already."
"That's weird..." Bethany said, "I would have noticed you if I saw you."
"No, you didn't." I said in my head, but I didn't say anything.
"Nicky, can you come with me?" Drake said as he stood up, "I want to talk to you." He took my hand.
"Sure." I said, "What about?" I stood up.
"Going to go make out?" Brandon asked. Drake and I blushed. So, to avoid other comments we left quickly, bringing our trays with us and we threw out the food remnants. Once we were in an abandoned classroom, he turned to face me.
"So, you're at least a Junior, right?" Drake asked. I nodded.
"Yes." I said, "Why?"
"Have you taken Algebra 3?" Drake asked.
"Yes." I said.
"I can't pass that class." Drake said, "Can you tutor me or something?"
"Sure." I said, "Is that what you wanted to ask?"
"Yeah." Drake said, "But, Nicky, I don't want you to tell my friends. They'll think I'm stupid."
"Drake, you aren't stupid." I said.
