Wow, that Jay boy... he's really something. I like bold characters with twisted sense of humor. They're fun and sassy 'till they suggest chop off somebody else's body part. That's a red flag that one hardly can miss but I understand why Sam let it slip. Jay most likely is his only friend and both have a common dislike for Nathan. I've heard if you want to get close to anybody, you should start off sharing misfortunes or rather stresful things other people can relate to. And Sam seems really stressed out. I just feel bad for the kid. He's surrounded by douchebags. Even his sister is daft enough to want to date his bro's number one antagonist.

Sam Frye has modest goals for his Senior year: Keep his head down, get passable grades, and secure his diploma so he can disappear with Jay from their podunk little Washington town. Their getaway plan—escaping their family trauma, his pining for a girl he’ll never have, and most of all, the abuse he and Jay have endured for years at the hands of their violent classmate.

It’s a simple plan, but nothing is simple when it comes to Jay. After the years of shared abuse, Jay is ready for war instead; A barreled bullet who would rather go out with a bang. Quickly, his provocations escalate to altercations, and the mutual retaliations begins to take a dark shift from property damage and verbal abuse, to physical acts of violence and cruelty.

Sam has to stop the downward spiral of brutality, before they take things too far. Before someone breaks. But Sam is already so broken, and the mutual destruction feels a lot like victory.

EXTRACURRICULARS stars a cast of morally gray characters, an unreliable narrator, and includes themes of physical and sexual assault, suicide, blood, gun and other weapon violence, suicidal ideations, murder, drug use, underaged drinking, driving under the influence, discussion of therapy, interventions, parental trauma.
