"So you invited Mr. One Night Stand."
"I invited a trained assassin who happens to be living in my house under extreme surveillance."
"Same difference," Anna replied with a wave in the air as if brushing the words away," Why did you do it?"
"Rumor has it that Rico can sneak in and out of places like a thief in the night. I need those files."
"God, Mary, they're just papers."
"They are not. They contain important information about Reagan."
I heard Anna hiss in annoyance at hearing his name. Arnold Reagan. A big business man with a tycoon in my territory. He owns almost half of the largest city under my control. That's a lot of power. Too much.
"I want him gone," I told her as I pulled a plain black tank top on," I want to know where Eduardo is. I want things and this will help me get them. Hand me that gun, will you?"
"How will Rico going with you help the whole Eduardo thing," she asked as she handed me the 27mm. I tucked it securely in my holster then pulled on the leather jacket to conceal it.
"You'll see. Can you go check on him? He should be ready by now."
She nodded before heading out. Last night she got back from Minnesota and wanted immediate answers on how things were going with- and I quote- "the sexy Mexy".
God I hate her sometimes.
I was chuckling gently to myself when the door to my room opened. From the corner of my eye I saw Rico's reflection in my mirror so I didn't bother to turn around.
"I assume Anna pointed out which door was mine?"
"I thought all of them were yours."
I gave him a glare over my shoulder. To be honest, I was trying to be playful or at least pleasant, not because I want to or I want him to like me but because I'd rather not be walking on broken glass all night while we are stuck in each other's company.
He simply sneered.
I shrugged and tossed the strap to the duffel bag over my shoulder, purposefully bumping into him on my way out.
"If that's the way you want to play it, fine. Just remember," I looked at him form over my shoulder," I always win."
The large building towered in front of us, roughly 125 feet tall with windows about 5 feet apart and 2 by 4 feet in size with two entrances, one in the front and one in the back. One of glass and one of steel.
After careful consideration, we decided it was best to stay to the western side, away from the street. The western side is really just nice terms for an alley off to the side stuck between the building and an old cafe.
I stood there with Rico, Liam and Jeremy. Liam and Jeremy are some of my men who I brought along for 2 purposes.
1. To help with the mission.
2. To follow Rico when he tries to escape.
Maybe you're wondering why I wouldn't have them stop him instead of just following him.
The answer is simple, Rico will go directly to his brother. Maybe he'll even contact his father, that won't matter however, we'll take him back in directly after he leads us straight to the younger Hernandez.
So we stood in the alley way, all looking at the building as we tried to develop the best possible way in. Normally I would have one already but I want to see what Rico is capable of.
"What do you think, Hernandez?"
He glanced at me before taking a small step forward," All of the choices suck but the way I see it is you have two options; brute force or the windows."
"Brute force has never bothered me before," I glanced at the others before nodding at the door. The were about to ram it when Rico stood in front of them with his arms out.
"Are you stupid? They have a security system. You have to be gentle."
I gestured for him to show us and he gave out a sigh before walking over and standing directly in front of me.
Okay, so normally I don't get nervous. Ever. But when he brought his hand up to touch my hair gently I swear my heart stopped beating. My breath hitched.
What the hell is wrong with me?!
He pulled out a bobby pin that had been holding back my dark- straightened, might I add- locks at the side in a punk look. I began breathing again only when he stepped away and focused on bending the metal into the right shape.
He squatted down in front of the double doors and began to unlock them in the much less legal way. In a matter of seconds the doors were open and he was looking cocky as he stood next to them with his arms crossed across his chest.
Liam and Jeremy went in first, one giving him a grateful nod and the other a playful punch on the arm. He stayed there with the door open until I walked up to him, I gave him a look and went in.
The area was completely dark the moment the door shut behind us. I pulled out a few flashlights from my duffel bag, handing each one to the 3 boys and keeping one for myself.
"The files are on the 10th floor," Liam whispered in the dark as he flashed his light towards the elevator," We can't take that, it'll be too easy to get caught in it."
"Stairs are this way," Jeremy called from the hall just to the right of the elevator. He had come in earlier to do a check up on the place and understand it's general lay out.
We all went upstairs and retrieved the papers, I was surprised by how easy it was and didn't trust it. Instead, I insisted that we stay and have a little "fun" just to make sure we got our point across.
To be honest, this part always makes me wish Anna was with me on missions like this. She loves destroying things.
We spilled their files everywhere, busted their computer screens, smashed all the photos of past presidents of the company, I even let Liam turn on the facets in the bathroom before we left.
Reagan will never try to tycoon my town again.
The boys, not Rico, the other ones, went outside to pull up the car while Rico and I made some finishing touches on the newly demolished office. I drew a pair of wings on their window so they would know who did this.
Stupid?
Maybe.
Cocky?
Most definitely.
It doesn't matter anyway, they can't take it to the cops because we own them and they can't seek revenge because we'll destroy them.
Being a mob boss is fun at times.
My phone went off in my back pocket and I reached to check it.
In the alley.
"Rico," he looked up from the garbage he was kicking around with the toe of his foot," Time to go."
He nodded and we stood up to go to the stairs. As he opened the door for me I saw the elevator ding in the corner of my eye.
We were caught.
