Masks are our armor
A defense against society.
A way to endure,
And, to ourselves, stay free.
Who society sees,
Isn't necessarily who we may be.
And a person you think you know well
could be completely different inside their shell.
You smile to hide your tears,
And laugh to cover your screams.
Like how a dark sky uses the stars to cover its fears,
We hide our imperfections and make our good parts gleam.
But things will always break,
And complexity will never stay.
Someone will see that the mask you wear was fake
And eventually, your shield will fade.
But if, in you, that person believes
or if, in the end, your friendship was only skin deep
If the person who sees the real you doesn't leave
Then they are a person that you should keep
