Felix cleared his throat while I sat still and silent. I was finally going to get the answers I needed, I was finally going to understand what was happening in my head.
"We are amongst a group of people called the Gifted, most things you've read in folklore are true and you're probably being chased by a crazy serial killer." He said sharply and in quick succession. I sat dumbfounded as he stood to leave. Aiden grabbed his arm before he could walk away.
"Seriously? That's what you're gonna say?" Aiden asked incredulously. "You're just gonna say that and walk away?"
"I don't even understand why I'm the one telling her!" Felix shouted.
"You're the boss, you're the one who calls the shots, you should have to tell her!" Aiden shouted right back.
"Guys please!" Ari cut in ushering them both back to their seats.
I was so confused, what he said made zero sense.
"Let me explain." Ari said as he took a seat on the coffee table in front of me. "There are things in this world that are difficult to comprehend. Fairies, Elves, Nymphs, Dryads, Wizards... they're all real, just not how you might think."
"We, my brothers and I, we're a part of a group called The Guild, it's full of what you would call wizards but we call ourselves The Gifted." Lex cut in. "There's another group of Gifted that call themselves The Gypsies. Basically we have magic of sorts, we don't use them in front of ordinary eyes because that would cause chaos, we're telling you because we think you might be involved with our world somehow." He finished.
We all sat there for several moments as I took it all in. I started laughing hysterically, drawing confused looks from the others. They were crazy! Here I thought I'd finally get help and answers and they were flat out crazy. I needed to get out of there. I stood up slowly, forcing a laugh and smile and made my way to the door, hoping they wouldn't stop me and I could run for it.
"Olivia, please wait. We're telling the truth." Lex said pleadingly.
I had never told any of them my name, I didn't even wear a name tag. I turned around sharply.
"Who told you my name?" I whispered. I'm sure they had ways to learn my name, but I got a strong feeling they knew it for reasons other than the norm. It shouldn't have been so unnerving, but I had that tickle in my head that told me there were some secretive motives as to why they knew me, why they always had me serve them, why they were around me.
Lex sighed.
"Olivia please."
"I'm leaving."
I turned around to face the door only to be greeted by what looked like a cloud of smoke. I stepped back slightly and the cloud stepped with me. It began to shift and quickly formed into someone, formed into Aiden. I screamed. Suddenly there were arms holding mine as I began to fly into a bout of hysterics.
"Calm down, calm down." Said Felix sternly, he was the one holding me still.
"LET ME GO! LET ME GO!" I screamed and thrashed.
"It's ok, we're not gonna hurt you, please just calm down" Aiden was pleading.
Then Lex held my face between his hands firmly.
"Calm down." He said with authority, his eyes staring deep into mine. Odd, They were moving, like storm clouds. I felt myself calming at his words, that strange sensation running through my whole body again.
"You're getting sleepy, you're eyes feel heavy and tired, when I finish speaking you will feel yourself slip into a deep sleep." He commanded. I did feel sleepy, but I don't remember feeling that way a moment ago. My body was getting weak, and my eyes too heavy to keep open. I could feel Lex scoop me up in his arms. I was so tired.
"See." Felix said, his voice barely audible now. "This is why I didn't want to tell her, look... she reacte... what do you plan on doi..."
I was asleep.
**********
I'm skipping rocks on a lake, black suit and tie, I'm 8 years old. I feel sad... mum just died and today is her funeral. I don't want to go back to the house and see all those people crying, I want to stay out here alone and cry. She wasn't suppose to die, dad said she'd be fine, he said that she'd get better. After she had Logan and Liam she got really sad, she wouldn't hug me like she use to. Dad said that she got sick and that's how she died, but I heard the people at the house talking, they say she killed herself.
"Hey Alexander..." Someone said softly. I turned around to face Richard. He wore black clothes like me, he looks like he's been crying, his blue eyes are all red and his blond hair is all messy. "What are you doing out here all alone you little bug?"
He forced a smile, he doesn't want to see me cry, he never does. He says i'm his favorite, that I'm his black haired clone.
"I don't want to go back in, I don't want to see those people crying. They didn't even know mum..." I said, a tear escaping my eye.
"I know..." he pulls me onto his lap as he sits on the grass. He's big for an 18 year old, everyone always talks about it.
"I know this is hard, I know you're sad but you don't want to cry in front of all those people. But you're with me, and I want you to cry and let yourself be sad, ok?" He says as he gently pats my head. So I do. I throw my arms around his neck and cry the tears of grief I've been holding in for days now. Someone else is stroking my hair now, I open my eyes. It's Felix. Felix sits next to us and hugs us both. All 3 of us sit there for a long time.
"Are you boys alright?" I know that voice, that's the lady that Richard hates. I can feel Richard getting tense and angry right now.
"Mum, we're fine, just please go inside." Felix says quickly as he stands.
"Ok... just don't be out here too long, it's starting to get dark out." She says as she walks away.
"Felix, why is that woman here?" Richard says slowly, standing up with me in his arms.
"That 'woman' is my mother Rich, and I don't know, I asked her to stay home." Felix reply's coolly. I asked Richard why he hates her, he told me it was because her and dad did something bad, and even though mum forgave them, he couldn't.
"You know I don't want her here." He says weakly. They love each other, but they always fight over this.
"I know... I'll take care of it." Felix replies, I guess he doesn't want to fight about it today. He starts to walk away.
"Hey!" Richard shouts, Felix stops and turns around.
"You know I love you, right?"
"I know. I love you too Rich."
Richard is carrying me to the house while I fall asleep on his shoulder.
**********
It's dark, but I can sorta see my surroundings as I wake up. That was by far the strangest dream I've ever had. It's like I was dreaming up some back story for Lex, maybe my mind was trying to make me feel closer to him, but it was strangely vivid.
"There she is." Lex says as he flips on a light and smiles at me. I stretch out my tight joints and yawn.
"Where am I?" I ask and close my eyes again wanting to go back to sleep.
"You're still in our living room." He says slowly gauging my reaction.
It all came back to me.
I started to try and scramble to my feet, but he was already in front of me grabbing a hold of my wrists keeping me still.
"Olivia, stay calm, let us explain!" He says firmly.
"What's going on, what are you people?" I ask, trying hard not to panic.
He sighed.
"It's probably best if we just show you."
