As twilight began to rise, Coal was finished scouting the city, there were no humans and neither that bad-haired girl. He saw a giant black rock just lying on the beach and on closer inspection, it was Rex looking off at the sea, Coal went behind him and tapped his shoulder and Rex turned around, Hey Rex, do you know where Dovelie is? You were with her, right? Coal asked with his hands,
“Huh? I thought Dovelie was still walking around?”
Well, she’s obviously not with you and I already looked around the beach since I saw you loafing around and she’s nowhere!
Rex’s mask’s eyeholes widened from triangles to circles in shock and he shot up to his feet, “Oh my gosh! We got to start looking around! She may have left the city, or worse, kidnapped by those humans!” He and Coal then ran around the now empty streets of Clearwater City in search of Dovelie. Coal then called over Rex as he noticed something, a giant hole that looked like someone threw a rock and it shattered like a window. He bent over to see where the hole went but Coal didn’t see Rex bump behind him and he made him drop his briefcase down into the dark hole. Coal then was about to be next to fall in until he was grabbed by his arm by Rex, he was then lifted out from the hole and was now on his back on the stone ground. Rex was sitting at the right of him breathing heavily, he never imagined someone that only went up to his stomach and looked like a mannequin could be so heavy. Coal couldn’t comprehend on what just happened, his most prized possession has just been dropped into the unknown and this huge… thug was being more than just a nuisance and a big thorn in his side than Dovelie, he was the straw that broke the camel’s back. Coal quickly got up back to his feet and tilted his head down at the hole, Rex stood up now and was looking just as concerned as he was back at the beach. “Coal, are you alright, no scratches or cracks?” Rex asked him, patting him on the back, Coal said nothing, “…Coal? You alright?” Coal was ready to let it all out at Rex.
After taking a whole day to fall, Dovelie landed down on a hot iron bridge. She got back up to standing up on her point and took in her surroundings. It was like a giant cavern inside a volcano, it was like nothing like the world of Greyscale, the cavern was full of bright red, black, and orange flames. Steel and iron robots are moving around shoveling black rocks and several things that seemed to surge with color, each pile of them were shoveled into a furnace with all of them having engulfing flames that made them rise higher into the pipes above. Dovelie was mesmerized by how different this was, her attention was then diverted to large THUMP! on the ground, it was Coal’s briefcase. Dovelie went to pick it up but her hands phased through the case, she thought how she could pick it up. Though, it seemed that the impact made the briefcase opened and a handkerchief flew out and it started to fly over to a large machine that had a glass tank next to it with some kind of black gas, it was the same of what Dovelie was made of now. She drifted over to the machine’s open door and went inside. The door closed and a screen glowed up showing a grid full of different bodies, she tapped one of them with her hand but the screen didn’t register and it instead flashed a red triangle with an exclamation point and a trapdoor then opened up beneath her. Then, a strong force was dragging her in, Dovelie tried to stay afloat but she was quickly sucked into the dark hole never to be seen even though she was never been able to be seen so far.
A platform then started to rise up and there was only a steel lantern with a blue flame inside, shaking side to side occasionally. A hidden door then opened up, about the size of a recliner, footsteps started to approach and it revealed to be a pair of finely polished saddle shoes, a vague figure of a hand then reached out to grab the lantern’s handle and as it drew closer to the figure, it shone light to a bed sheet ghost of diminutive size wearing a top hat that was huge but just huge enough for him to be able to see under the hat, the hat itself had five symbols, a purple eye with a spike on top, a dark blue sharp snowflake, a green lily, a sun with a rainbow, and a stylized pink heart; the trademark symbols of the five witches. The ghost had a pair of drawn on circles as eyes with a spot of blue in each one of them that helped function as actual eyes on his sheet. This little white ghost was Bones due to his bone-white ghost sheet, Bones didn’t really have a name since he was only created just a few weeks ago, his service was to just transport any “wayward” souls over to Madam Blizzard and Lady Gale by his lantern that was always to “attract” them; there were a lot of doubts on what he actually did.
Bones went out of the machine and outside the Coal Caverns, he was now on his way over to Madam Freeze and Gale’s place, which was widely contrasted to how stuffy it was here. He walked pretty fast through the caverns but as he walked more near a briefcase, something rattled in the lantern and it jerked away from his lantern-holding hand over to it. Bones lifted up his lantern and looked at it to see if something was wrong with it, he paid no attention and went back, but the jerking continued and he now fell onto his back as the lantern started sliding over to it. Bones got back up to his feet and wondered why his lantern was acting strange, no other souls were this rebellious and it seemed as if the fire in it was trying to talk to him. He started to try holding the lantern with both his hands and it seemed the lantern stopped rattling, he was about to go back to walking but he started to only move his eyes at the briefcase. He then stopped in his tracks and went and looked down at the briefcase. He realized what he was going to do about it, the will-o-wisp obviously wanted this and he’s learned personally that a sad wisp is not a good wisp. He then realized that he’s not going to keep it in his grasp with his lantern and clothed hands, he then focused hard and squinted his eyes. Two floating round hands were floating spookily, glowing like a glow stick in complete darkness. Bones learned this trick from stretching to get a wisp floating above a high shelf, the hands were simply like a ball and were made of goo, he could’ve made them into hands but he needs some actual gloves for the shape, the floating hands also removed his actual unknown hands under his sheet. Bones crouched down and picked up the briefcase up, he didn’t notice that it was unlocked and several belongings fell out, one of them being a blueprint. The blueprint then flew out from the heated currents of the lava and it went perfectly inside a slit from the machine he exited out.
Bones didn’t even notice it and he swept up the things on the floor back into the briefcase and he ran out of the Coal Caverns. Bones now walked through the rocky halls, he then went into a blue and icy part of the caves which was heavily unfitting for something that looked like the inside of a volcano. Bones arrived down on the corridor, the craggy stone of the caves started to become smoother and smoother until it became the look of an ice palace. He went inside a little swinging door that was like a doggy door and was in a big parlor with two towering women on separate couches. They didn’t notice Bones walk in. The lantern started to shake a little from their presence, Bones tried to hold it down so it wouldn’t make such a fuss, he wasn’t in the mood for Madam Freeze nor Lady Gale’s long-winded and glorified “hellos” or them just insulting him about his uniform. He simply slid through the door across the room. Bones then was in the soul room, a room with only four souls (including the wisp in his lantern) that were resting on a table with a plinth and small pillow for them. He walked over to them and looked at them, they all looked the same: A golden one with a symbol of some ancient language and a closed eye on it labelled, Coco, a white and blue one with a moon and sun on it labelled, Anchor, and a black one with a few blue stars in it labelled, Serf, and there was an empty space labelled, Dudley.
As Bones laid down the lantern and the briefcase on the table and about to open the door on the lantern, he heard more whispers but it didn’t seem to come from the wisp’s voice but something more deeper and almost grisly. Take them, those witches don’t appreciate you, take back on what was rightfully yours. The voice said, each word made the black and blue orb glowed a little, Even if you die, the damage will be done and you’ll get your revenge. Bones knew something in his head (or whatever it was that helped him think) was right. He looked around the room, it was silent and empty with no one around. Bones then grabbed his lantern back in his hand and the briefcase in the other, he swiped the three orbs into the briefcase. Bones then hid the items under his cloak and left the room, but not before leaving with a marker that was used to label the crystal orbs.
Bones slid out from the door and was now sneaking around the bookshelves and counters. But his escape was too easy and surely, Madam Freeze noticed Bones and his giant top hat and shiny saddle shoes. “Oh! Look who’s the little quiet mouse!? Emma, it’s the little lantern boy!” Madam Freeze said in a patronizingly delightful way, Bones’ expression didn’t change,
“Get out of here! I can’t believe he’s here! Here you little ghost, a little cookie.” Lady Gale shouted in the same tone and giving a cream sandwich biscuit that was the size of Bones, he simply took it under his sheet.
The two witches then were being more annoying which was, in Bones’ opinion, much much worse than being insulted. He was then being kissed on his nonexistent mouth by them and this time he had enough. As the ladies then took their tea break, he got out the marker and he drew a jagged line on his sheet. When he was now about to be petted by one of them, he opened the line and sunk the jagged edges on Lady Gale’s finger. She shouted in shock and pain, Madam Freeze’s hand loosened and Bones fell down on his feet. Bones then started to run out of the room and quickly out of the hallway. “Why you little good-for-nothing towel! Ghosts! Get that little deserter!” One of the ladies shouted, a group of floating ghosts with lanterns and a giant one with a long black cleaver then shot out of the icy exit.
Bones was running as fast as he can, he had no time to stop by as he knew his “boss” and “coworkers” will be after him now. He got to the place he was where the briefcase was, no such thing could have fallen down here, the robots or Fyrans were very neat people. Bones then saw a bright white light coming from above, even though sunlight hurts ghosts, if he could just fly high enough, he’ll be fine. Bones heard the oncoming crowd and he didn’t have time to consider he was a ghost too, he got a running start and he started to fly up into the light. His clothes started to burn and as the other ghosts arrived the circled around where the ray of light stopped. The reaper ghost arrived and saw his employee escaping and almost at the surface. At a last ditch attempt, the ghost then lunged their blade at Bones… it was a direct hit.
