I see Lynna head towards the Phosphora Square, where I’m headed. I wave him over, and he sees me and walks over to where I am. We begin walking back together. I look around at everyone else, and see most of them are talking or milling about. I look over and see Karmei talking to Ferin. Maybe I should go over and talk to them later. They seem nice, and I need hang out with people aside from Lynna once and awhile. I should also be talking to all the 4 other Rosies, not just those two. I need to make sure I keep some reputation. While I don’t care about social position, I have a level of responsibility to my country, and Lynna will get super stressed if he thinks he’s affecting my life in any negative ways such as lowering my social position. He has far too much to be worried about already.
Lynna suddenly stops. I look up at him, and his eyes are wide mouth hanging open slightly. I look down for a second trying to think what could’ve surprised him so much. When I look up again, he’s wearing an expression of pure hatred. His eyes are narrowed, and his mouth in a snarl. I take a step back, then see what might have been related to his actions. Across the street, I see Karmei smirking, and looking at Lynna, and Ferin wearing the same surprised expression Lynna had just a second ago. I find myself wearing it too, wondering what happened.
“What did you just say?” Lynna says as he turns towards them and takes a few steps forward.
“I said you were a filthy little crazy rustbucket that should go back to the mines. What are you going to do about it?” She responds, keeping her smirk.
Oh. She shouldn’t have said that. An insult like that shouldn’t come out of anyone's mouth ever, but in the presence of Lynna, and considering how personally he takes anything having to do with being an Ingenacri, that was the worst decision possible. I take a few steps back.
“Oh, I can do so much about that.” Lynna says, starting to roll up the sleeves of his jacket. I notice it then, a small black mark at the edge of his iris on both eyes. I’ve seen people with it before, but only systenians, mostly Lynna. I still have no idea what it is, and I asked Srendo about it once, since I heard she knows a lot about science and anatomy, but she just gave me a worried look and said she didn’t know, and maybe I should talk to Sparta. When I spoke to him, he responded with the same worried look and said I should talk to Srendo. I still have no idea what it is, just that I get an uncomfortably calm feeling whenever I notice it’s there.
“Like what? Go on, hit me. Prove you’re just the filthy savage that everyone knows you are.”
He looks like he’s about to run at her when I jump up and grab the back of Lynna’s jacket, but I end up pulling him down onto the ground when I land. I forgot about our height difference.
“Ahh.” He says rubbing the front of his neck and standing up. “Who-”
“I’m so sorry, I was just trying to, well, I-” I start profusely apologizing.
“Oh, it’s you Kammy.” He instantly softens, yet the black marks are still there, just as dark as before. It worries me. “It’s okay. Don’t worry. C’mon, let’s get out of here.”
Karmei calls after us, “Yeah, go with your rusty boyfriend you little traitor. Should’ve kept him on the ground.”
Lynna strides out of the central square. I follow him. We walk back to Phosphora Square in silence.
