The Forgotten Land

A Minute of Quiet

A Minute of Quiet

Sep 21, 2017

Crowds gather fast after a fight. As me and Dravis exit from the bar, we suddenly noticed that the villagers were gathering around the bar.

"What the hell happened in that bar?" One villager asked the other villagers

"I have no clue, but whatever happened in there left quite a mess."  A villager with glasses answered, adjusting them as he spoke.

Dravis motioned me to come with him and he put his finger on his mouth to tell me to keep quiet. More and more villagers came to inspect the bar, while and Dravis hid in one of the many alleyways in Dun.

"We need to get out of Dun immediately." Dravis said with a serious tone. "There's no tellin' when these asshats might attack again." He continued.

"I agree." I said while nodding my head quickly.

"Let's get our bearing first, then we leave." We immediately left the alleyway.

As the sun begins to set, we found a nearby inn and entered it. The inn was being occupied by a few people, some were chatting with each other, while the others were eating some chicken near a slow roaring fire.

"Sit over there, I'll sort this out with the innkeeper." I nodded and slowly walked towards an empty seat, near the fire.

As Dravis was talking with the innkeeper, I stared into the fire, pondering over what recently happened. "What the hell happened back there, I suddenly said some words and the man in black suddenly went flying..."I thought while recalling the bar fight in my head, "... was it magic?" I continued to think about it, "Well whatever it was, I'm alive because of it."  I answered myself and quickly came to terms with it. I then remember, the Black Cloaks are still alive, and they haven't payed the price, I quietly muttered, "I will get my revenge..."

After a few minutes of waiting, Dravis called for me. "Kid, come on."

We entered one of the empty rooms in the inn.

"Don't get too attached, we're only staying until sunrise, so you got a few hours to get your bearings."

I slowly walked toward one of the bed and crashed down on to it as I got close and closed my eyes and slept.

THREE HOURS LATER

I opened my eyes and saw the room, completely covered in darkness, and in a very messy manner.

"What the hell?" I asked myself, filled with nervousness and despair.

As I sat up on the bed, I smelled a faint smoke from outside, I think for a second, "Where's the smoke coming from?"  I stepped outside the room, hoping to see the same thing from three hours ago, but now the inn was covered in darkness, in shambles, with no occupants to be found, no warm fire in the fireplace and most importantly, I haven't seen Dravis anywhere, I searched the dark and destroyed inn, hoping to find him, but to no avail.

As I was about to go outside, I noticed the smoke coming from the bottom of the door, I let out a nervous sigh and raised my shaky hand onto the door handle, and slowly opened it.

Once I opened the door, I fell on to my knees and saw the whole town burning.
