~*~2 Weeks Later~*~
“Hey! Euna!” I glanced up from my desk by the window, “huh? Xander! What in the world are you doing up here?!” I squeaked, hopping out of my seat and running to the window and unlocking the handles and swinging open both sides. Xander, a boy I met on my way to Oliver’s manor, was seated on a tree branch outside my room. A lopsided grin was upon his lips, eyes crinkled up at the sides and letting me know his smile was genuine. “I came to see you!” He laughed and I couldn’t help the smile that grew on my lips. “Well it’s nice to see you too but you know what Oliver said,” I scolded but had trouble staying serious. “Well Oliver isn’t your Mum!” He stuck his nose up and spoke with a pompous accent, making a giggle escape my lips.
“Euna! Is there someone in there?” I heard and my face paled a bit as I put a finger to my lips, signaling Xander to be quiet. “No! I’m just talking to myself!” I called back, stiff with the tiniest bit of fear. “Okay! I’ll be in my study if you need me!” He called through the door and the breath I had been holding released. “Gee Euna, if you’re so scared of that guy, why don’t you just leave?” Xander asked and I pursed my lips, “cause the one thing I believed in to take me left me long ago.” I mutter lowly, not giving a direct answer and Xander just tilts his head, his blue eyes curious and calculating. “Oh! I brought you something!” He held out a box and I didn’t hesitate to take it, our hands brushing against each other lightly. I felt my face heat up, but was fully aware he couldn’t tell, the red hidden beneath a dark brown skin tone. Finally opening the box and pulling out the gift, I admired it— a beautiful hair beret, it was decorated in flowers, the middle gems comparable to diamonds in color and the leafs painted with a sparkling gold.
“This is beautiful,” a smile formed on my lips once more and my amethyst eyes connected with his bright blue eyes. “Thank you,” I whispered as he grinned at my reaction. “You’re very welcome, I should be heading out Euna, until next time?” He asked, his burgundy locks swaying in the wind and lightly brushing his lips as he waved slightly. “Until next time,” I repeated, smiling a bit myself and closing the window. I turned around and paled, finding Oliver standing at the door. “O-Oliver… how long have you been there?” I asked and he laughed darkly, “how long do you think?” His tone made me nervous and I took a step back, watching him take strong strides forward until he stood right in front of me. “I thought we had an agreement Euna? You don’t talk to that peasant.” I grit my teeth, trying and failing to bite back the retort I had. “The only peasant around is you, with your attitude you are the lowest of them all.”
Smack.
The noise is what I heard first, I felt myself hit the floor next, and the stinging sensation on my cheek was what I felt last. Pushing myself up, I had to pause and spit the blood from my mouth to the side of me, my messy hair blocking my vision. Unseen to me was the interaction between the man behind the glass barrier and the male in front of me, their leveled gazes filled with malice and hatred for the other. “Euna, don’t bother coming down to eat today. In fact, don’t bother coming out your room.” Oliver said, turning away and breaking the gaze he and the other male shared just as I looked up, only to see him leaving the room. The door slammed, making me wince and sigh in both relief and frustration. Cursing him to the depths of Hell, I stand up and walk to the door leading to the bathroom to treat my wounds, knowing he had locked the door leading out anyway.
That night, I laid in bed thinking to myself, Xander’s words echoing in my mind. Why don’t you just leave? I questioned myself, why don’t I? It isn’t like it was my debt I was paying for. Suddenly I heard a thump, my heart jumping into my throat with the fear I felt immediately. Sitting up, I saw the windows were broken off the hinges and a male stood in the window, the light from the moon giving me just enough light to make out who it was. “Xander?” I muttered, wondering if I were dreaming. “Ready to go?” He asked with a smile, jumping into the room and walking over to the bed. “All you have ’ta do is take my hand.” He stated, his hand outreached for my own.
There was no hesitation in my movements and I reached out, taking his hand as we heard shouts near my room. “Let’s go,” he laughed, an obvious glint of happiness in his eyes. I laughed as well and he pulled my out of the bed, my white nightgown my only attire. “Shall we?” He asked, walking to the window, his hand in my own. “We shall,” I grinned, laughing as I was lifted and he jumped out of the window with agility I could never even hope to possess.
We ended up on the cold streets of London, him in his normal clothing and me in my nightgown, a large scarf to keep me warm, and fluffy black slippers he had brought with him. “Where to first?” I held back a laugh at his question, “where else? Everywhere.” I replied with a smile and he grinned like a true Cheshire cat, nodding as we took off down the cobblestoned streets of London.
Hours later, having had tons of fun and experienced so many new things, we ended up in a field with white flowers. “Thank you Xander,” I mumbled and smiled at the taller male. His expression was just as happy as my own, nodding in reply. “I’m glad I could spend this time with you.” He stated and I tilted my head, “huh? What do you mean? There’s always tomorrow, we have so many places we could go, so many new things to try.” I explained and he shook his head, “no. You do.” I blinked, confused as he let our connected hands drop. “What? Wh-Why?” My question was answered, just not by Xander. “Because Cander here is already dead.” I looked past Xander to see Oliver, “stay away from us!” I ordered, glaring at Oliver angrily.
“Us?” Oliver asked and I turned around to see Xander crumbled on the ground, his hand over his mouth as he coughed, blood coating his hand easily. “Euna, get out of here.” He ordered, looking up at me with dull blue eyes, his skin covered in sweat. “What… What have you done Oliver?!” I shouted, turning around and gasping when Oliver was much closer than he was before. “Hmm? Oh, just decided to kill dear Romeo here. Why? Do you really love him that much Juliet?” He pulled out a slightly bloody knife and tossed it to me, I caught it with shaky hands. “Why don’t you die with him? Isn’t that the romantic endings in every book?” He asked, his chin raising up as if he were looking down on me, eyes border lining a crazy person’s.
“No! Euna, get out of here now!” I glanced back at Xander and noticed the blood all over him now, probably having thrown up that much, a red spot on his side catching my attention. I looked to the knife in my own hands and grew pale as I realized why Xander couldn’t just clean up his wound and keep running, this knife had poison and if it were from Oliver, it was probably created by one of his herbalists. “Try again,” I mutter and grasp the knife in my own hand angrily. Oliver was less than three steps from me, the grin I loved so much on Xander’s face and hated so much on his was on full display for me. “Go for it Juliet, I dare you.” Oliver stated with a grin, my eyes narrowed at him and I heard Xander choking on the blood behind me.
As if ready to drive the knife through my own chest, I shook. As I allowed the knife to cut through the air, it was no longer towards me and was instead aimed at the male in front of me. Oliver’s eyes widened a bit and he moved to dodge, “now!” He screamed, just as the knife pierced his chest and an arrow lodged itself in the back of my throat.
“Euna!” I heard behind me and a smile came to my lips, starting to choke on my own blood. A strangled laugh left my lips as I thought to myself, “that’s my name. Not that bloody Juliet.”
Just like that I died.
And just like that, my new story began.
“Hey Cass!” My gaze flickered up and I smiled at Theo. His hair was a bit messy, flecks of grass in it and his grey eyes were bright as he looked at me. “What is it?” I asked, smiling lightly. “The clouds are beautiful today, aren’t they?” He asked as we looked up. We were both sprawled out on the grass, watching the passing clouds. “Yeah…” I mutter, a tiny smile on my lips.
