Lucas
Song: Supernatural by Ken Ashcorp
I flopped on my bed with a sigh, holding the stuffed bear up to look at it. It was kinda cute; in a creepy sort of way. Should I keep it or give it back to Mia on Monday? Eh, I’ll keep it; I’m sure she won’t notice. I sat back up, groaning in the process, and set the bear down on my desk before I ventured out of my room to my dad’s study. Now it’s time to find out why Mia was so freaked out when I mentioned her dad.
I walked down the hall, passed the maids cleaning, and welcomed myself into the study. My dad won’t be home for another hour so that should give me plenty of time to snoop around. I locked the door and carefully snuck behind the desk to sit down in front of his laptop. My dad is a huge clean freak. Anything out of place and he has a freaking meltdown. Hence the maids.
I opened the computer and quickly put in his password. Who the hell has their password to their computer as “Password”? My dad of course. I quickly did a bio search on Mia and her mom, finding nothing out of place with them but quickly learned that Mia’s mom was married to a chick. When did that happen? Ten years ago?! What the fuck?! And no one fucking knew?! I searched online for John Williams, immediately finding him in Mia’s friend list on Facebook, and then going to the background checker dad has downloaded and put his name and social security number in. It’s surprising what you can do with a little snooping.
After about ten minutes, the computer dinged that it hit an end and I quickly scanned through his file. Divorced, one kid in custody and one with their mother, that’s probably Mia. Police detective for almost twenty years, arrested and charged with first degree murder for a young girl at the age of nine, found not guilty due to not enough evidence and the witness was too much in shock to testify. When I finished reading, I sat back in shock. Mia’s dad was charged for murder. No wonder she doesn’t like talking about him. He most likely was a fucking murderer! I quickly printed a copy of his file and erased my history, before diving out of my dad’s office and back to to my room.
Mini time skip because the author is fucking lazy…….
“Why does Monday always have to kill your weekend vibes?!” Chris groaned. His face was resting on his desk while a little black cloud floated around him.
I sympathetic smile and said, “It can’t be that bad.”
He sighed dramatically and turned his head to look at me. “My girlfriend dumped me.”
“Kat dumped you?”
“For that asshole soccer player,” he whimpered. I couldn’t help it but laugh at him. “Don’t laugh! Who wants to date a soccer player anyway?! They all think that they have special privileges!”
“And you think you football players don’t?”
We both turned to see Brysiese behind us. She was dressed in her usual dark clothes, her hair was in her face so you could only see half of it and she looked like she hasn’t slept in a week. “You guys pull the same shit too, you know.”
Chris glared at her before turning around to sulk some more. “What the hell do you know? You never had a boyfriend in your life!”
She didn’t even seem fazed. “That’s probably because I don’t want any boyfriend,” she said calmly.
Chris snorted. “What? Are you a lesbo or something?”
“Dude! Not cool!” I said. “So what if she’s gay?!” I turned to Brysiese. “I’m sorry for what Chris said. He’s just sulking because he got dumped.”
She just shrugged. “I don’t really mind. Just don’t let Mia hear you say that,” she said. “She’s a little sensitive to that sort of stuff.” With that she walked by us to her seat, and Mia entered. Does that chick know when Mia is coming? That would be kinda weird.
Mia and her friend talked for a few minutes, Mia laughing at something Brysiese said and sitting down next to her. Brysiese pulled out a water bottle and handed it to Mia. “Hey Chris?”
“Mm?” his head was back on the desk.
I kept my eyes on Mia and watched her interact with her friend. “What do you think of someone who’s parent is a murderer?”
Chris lifted his head and gave me the biggest, “HUH?!” I’ve ever heard.
Half the people in the room looked over at us, including Mia and Brysiese. “I was just thinking of the creative writing class I’m taking right now. So I was thinking of my character having a murderous parent that got arrested,” I quickly explained. “That’s it. I was just wondering if you would be scared or worried about the kid.”
Chris rolled his eyes. “I’d probably stay as far away from that kid as physically possible.”
Suddenly there was a boom and a smoke cloud coming from the front of the room. When the smoke cleared up there where Mia was sitting was her clothes and on top of them was a cat. It meowed in anger before jumping onto the desk only to yowl at Brysiese. It was a chubby cat with brown fur and purple and blue stripes making it look like a mini magic tiger.
I walked over to see what was going on and when I got closer I could hear Brysiese. “You said you would try it Mia,” she said. “You can’t get angry at me over that.”
The cat hissed at her.
“So what happened?” I asked.
Brysiese simply glanced at me. “Mia’s a cat right now. She drank a potion I gave her that was supposed to give her only the ears and tail but I guess I did something wrong.”
I can’t believe she said it so monotonously. Mia jumped onto her lap and batted at her with her paw as in saying, “I will beat your ass when I’m out of this.”
Brysiese glared at her. “Don’t be an ass. You said you would drink it for me.”
“Wait,” I said. “Do you have any way of changing her back?”
“She’ll change back in about a day or so. That’s how long I set the potion.”
“Then how is she going to get back home from school?”
They both stared at each other before Brysiese looked up at me finally. “Why not you? You know where Mia lives right?” Mia started batting at her again.
“No, she never told me.”
She sighed. “Typical of her. Let me guess, she told you to die in a ditch or something when you asked her?”
“She threw out the window of the gym and told me to never talk to her again.”
Mia looked proud when I said that and started purring. Brysiese picked her up and quickly handed her to me. “Here hold her while I write it down.”
As soon as Mia got dropped into my arms, she went nuts. She pushed at my chest and chin to escape and when that didn’t work she started using her claws. I quickly grabbed her under her armpits and moved her to my face. “Listen Mia, you need to calm down. I’m just trying to help.” That didn’t work. She moved quickly to my face and started scratching and biting anything she could get her paws on.
Thankfully Brysiese finished quickly and pulled her off my face. I could feel blood dripping down my cheeks from her claws and teeth. “This is her address. You might wanna go now before the teacher comes.” She handed me the note and Mia tried to attack me when I reached out.
“Mia,” Brysiese sighed. “Be good for Lucas. He’s being kind enough to take you home so you don’t have to suffer the humiliation of being a cat at school okay?”
Her ears went down in defeat and gave a soft “Meow”.
“Now don’t give him any trouble.” Brysiese handed me Mia again and packed her clothes into her bag before handing that to me as well. Mia jumped onto my shoulder and I went to get my stuff.
When I got over to my desk, Chris was holding my bag. “I heard about you taking Mia home.” He got a good look at my face. “Jeez! She did you good even when she’s a fucking cat!”
I snatched my backpack from him with a glare. “Just take notes so I can copy them tomorrow.” with that we left.
