Roxxy ignores her new fleeing friends, she had something else in mind. She heads to the only class in the building she didn’t fall asleep in: woodshop. She keeps her eyes peeled for any Reaper, but after her previous scuffle, so has no fear of being hurt. She eventually came across the room, stepping inside she took a large breath of the air coated with sawdust and paint. She spots a dolly sitting in the corner, and starts loading up planks of wood on top of it. Once she had a sizable pile, she lays on top a hammer and a box of nails. Before she leaves the room, she plays with the ring on her necklace. “See that sis? I’m helping a bunch of idiots survive. I know you’d be proud of me.”
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Meanwhile, said idiots are foraging in the kitchen. Amy is helping Robin and Brendon look around, while Mason and Aaron are standing guard, armed with soup ladles. Amy stands up from her position on the floor, and addresses the group, “Does anyone have any allergies, or food preferences?” A resounding ‘no’ echoes back at her. “Okay then, just checking.”
“Yeah. I’d suck if that’s the way you go out. Take out a shit ton of Reapers, and then get taken out by a PB&J.” Mason elbows Aaron in the ribs.
“Ow. Dude chill out. Tryin’ to make light of the situation ya know?” Robin rolls her eyes. “Idiots.” Bang. Bang. Hey idiots! Open the damn door! Mason and Aaron rush to the front door, and move the tables. Aaron yanks Roxxy and her dolly in the room, and closes the door behind them. “Are you insane?! Those things are attracted to sound, and here you are just announcing your arrival. Ya know I don’t they heard you all the way on the fucking moon.”
“Hey asshole. I wasn’t making that much noise, and even if I did make any noise. We have these to protect us.” She gestures to her dolly and the 2x4s resting on it. “When we make it to the nurse's office, we board up the door and windows, then when we needa get out, we just pull out the nails. Easy as that.” Brendon walks up to them carrying a large tub of food. There was an assortment of chips, pre-made sandwiches and wraps, as well as precooked chicken patties and hot pockets, and enough milk to make a cow blush. When he sees them arguing, he stops dead in his tracks. Waiting behind them until their scuffle ends. Roxxy spots him cowering behind the two boys. “Yeah, what do you want beanstalk?”
“I-um...have the food. We can go now.”
“Well I’m glad we now have your permission. GUYS MOVE OUT, WE’RE DONE HERE.”
Aaron glances at Mason “So when did we sign on to be her underlings?”
“I think it’s best not to question it. I don’t feel like getting shanked today.”
“I hear you two.” They gulp in unison. Robin and Amy make their way from the back of the cafeteria to join the others.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
They make it to the nurse’s office with only one minor issue. The issue being when Aaron tried to scare Roxxy by shouting “boo”, which only managed to freak out Brendon, and it earned Aaron a stomp on his right foot. “I’ll start boarding up the place. Aaron see if you can find a fridge to put some off that stuff in it. Mason, see if you can make contact with the outside. I know your phone worked, but that was just right when hell broke loose, the situation may have changed. Nerd Girl see if you can find anymore pillows. Amy, find the medicine. String bean, just, try and be useful.” Robin gives her a glare, but does her task like the rest of them, except for Brendon who resigns to just helping out Amy, and by helping I mean standing behind her awkwardly as moral support. “I found a couple more pillows and some blankets, got enough for all of us.”
“I found a first aid kit and some painkillers.”
“Well we definitely are gonna need them.”
Mason was staring blankly at the T.V, murmuring something to himself.
“Well Mason, do you have something to share with the class?” Roxxy retorts.
“Yes, you are gonna wanna see this.” Mason had the tv running, his phone, apparently, had no reception. This a code red. The nation is under lockdown. Zombie-like creatures are swarming everywhere. Please stay inside at all costs. The message kept scrolling atop the screen, the rest being occupied by static. Click. Mason turns back to the group behind him. “Is this really are reality right now?” They all go silent for a moment. No tears are shed, fear overrides the feeling.
Amy breaks the silence. “The most important thing to do right now is survive. Our families are out there, we need to be strong for them.” Roxxy gets off the stool she was perched on. “Well said champ. But, what do we do now? It’s only 11:00AM, and we locked ourselves in the least stimulating room in the whole school.”
“The bathroom could be worse.” Offered Amy.
“On the contrary, I could think of a few stimulating things to happen in there.” That joke earned Aaron another elbow in the ribs from Mason. “Hey, I am the only one here trying to entertain everyone. Why should I be punished?” Aaron fakes being hurt, but Mason just shrugged him off. “I really hope you aren’t ever in a position of peril, cause god knows you’ll just be the damsel in distress.”
“Oh contraire, I believe it would be you swooning in my arms as I carry you away from certain doom.”
“You certainly have a thing for the dramatics.” Mason mutters, turning and trying to hide the blush appearing on his face. Robin was able to catch it, but she didn’t bother to comment, not yet anyway. Amy watches as everyone claims their respective corners of the room, doing their best to ignore eachother. “Oh come on guys. Come on. Let’s gather in the center of the room. If we are stuck together, we might as well try and bond!” Roxxy grimaces, “Oh dear God no.”
