Alinel and Veist walk down the stair and meet the manager of the inn, sitting behind his receptionist desk. He is an old feran who looks like a rabbit.
“Good morning mister manager.” said Alinel.
“Oh, good morning, folks.” said the manager. “You guys woke up early today. Is it because of those new quests?”
“You know about it too?” asked Alinel.
“It’s easy to guess. I’ve been seeing a lot of adventurers heading to the Guild Hall. You better hurry or you’ll be running out of quest posters.”
“Gasp! Quick, my dearest.” Alinel panics as she leaves the inn. ”To the Guild Hall.”
“Hold on, milady.” Veist told her while he’s after Alinel outside. “Excuse us, mister manager.”
“Have fun, guys.” said the manager.
Alinel and Veist are now heading to the Guild Hall. They are passing through the market, where many adventurers of different professions like swordsmen, mages, hunters, necromancers, engineers, and dragon riders are buying provisions as their preparation for their quests.
“There are a lot of adventurers here. It's been a while we haven't seen this many.” said Alinel while she sees everyone busy making preparations for their quests.
“Mhm.” Veist nodded weakly.
“Wow. Look at those fruits.” she said as they walk by the fruit stand. “They look delicious. Lets buy some when we get a quest job.”
“Mhm.”
“Look. That person is riding a Steam Walker.” Alinel excited when the four-legged mechanical walker passed by them. “He’s might be an engineer from Rholvik, the city of iron. I always like their inventions.”
“Mhm.”
“Everyone here are in high spirit. Let’s do our best too.”
“Mhm.”
While they're walking, Alinel sees Veist's eyes as he doesn’t look happy. She then persuades him.
“Veist?”
“Yes?” Veist snapped.
“Are you alright?”
“Hm? What do you mean?”
“You looked uneasy back then. May I know what you were dreaming?”
Because Alinel is someone he respects to, Veist doesn’t want her to involve with his problem of his past. So he tries to avoid answering her question without lying to her.
“It’s ‘bitter’. I don’t want you to know about it.”
“It’s about ‘that’ again, isn’t it?”
“How do you guess?”
“We’ve been together for so long. You usually express hatred. Particularly towards ‘them’.”
“Hmph.”
Alinel holds Vesit’s cheeks gently. They both stop walking as she worries about him.
“My dearest. We both have unpleasant past and I don’t mind for you to keep hating them. But, for now, can you please quell your anger?”
“You know that I’ve been always like this whenever I think about 'them'. There is no way I can be calm as you, milady. As long this grudge has tainted my heart and memory, my rage will forever live on.”
“I understand. Neither I can fix what is already ruined. But we’re now live in the world where ‘these people’ become the most dominant and civilized races in the world. Their feral instincts are greatly developed, such as sensing someone’s emotions. Therefore, I beg you to control your anger. Don’t let your influence spread freely into the heart of these sinless souls.”
“Sigh. You’re right.” said Veist as he calms down. “I’ll be careful.”
“Thank you, my dear Veist.”
“I’ll be fine now. Let’s head to the Guild Hall before they run out of hunting quests.”
“Gasp! You're right.” Alinel snapped. “Let's hurry.”
They then continue walking.
