"How?" I asked, a faint glimmer of hope shining through. Maybe if I could get my memories back the chaos that had taken over my life might finally come to an end.
"We have a contact in the Metropolitan Police Service, he can help us track a memory keeper down." Lex replied triumphantly.
"What contact."
"Our brother, Richard."
I froze.
Richard? I thought I dreamt all that, I know for certain I didn't know his brother or his brothers name, yet somehow, I had a dream with him, knowing his name. I almost spoke up and voiced this very fact then thought better of it. If there's something strange going on with his mystery brother and me, I didn't want to clue any one in, I wanted to let things just run their course.
"Oh, I didn't know that." That was all I said.
The doorbell rang then and Ari went to answer it. Felix had disappeared not long before, I was curious as to why he disliked me so much, but not enough to ask him. Ari returned with takeout in his arms, laying an assortment of food on the counter. We ate, chatted a bit. We decided to let the events of tonight slip into the back of our minds for now. I had more questions and needed answers, but I decided to content myself with what I had learned that night. Within an hour of eating I was yawning and itching to crawl into bed and rest.
"Guys, I think I should head home, try and rest my mind a bit." I said as I made my way to the door.
"Alright, we'll be in touch and let you know if we find anything!" Aiden shouted from his place on the couch while the others chimed in their goodbyes. Lex walked me to the door.
"Do you want me to walk you home? It's not really safe for you to be out on your own at this time..." He said meekly, I detected a hint of concern, that made me smile. I opened my mouth to answer when I was cut off by Kirstie.
"It's alright Lex, I can take her home." She said as she patted him on the shoulder. He nodded. As Kirstie grabbed her things I went and stood before him.
"Thank you, for tonight. It wasn't at all what I expected but I feel closer to figuring out what's wrong with me now than I ever have before." I said just barely louder than a whisper.
"I'm gonna go wait out in the car." Kirstie interjected with a slight smile giving me a wink which I answered by rolling my eyes.
"There's nothing wrong with you, you're just a bit lost is all, and there's nothing wrong with that." He said with conviction before looking away from me.
"Regardless, thank you." I smiled a tight lip smile.
"Anytime." He smiled back and lightly grabbed my hand.
We just stood there for a while before I worked up the desire to pull my hand away.
"I better go, Kirstie is waiting." I whispered. I wanted to leave and rest, but I also wanted to stay here for a while longer, stay with him. It amazed me how quickly I had grown to care for the man, to enjoy his company. I hoped he felt the same.
"Goodnight, Olivia." He said as he raised my hand to his face, pressing a gentle kiss on the back of it, I blushed at the sudden action.
"Goodnight, Alexander." I replied testing the name, and testing his reaction. Slight confusion passed his face before settling into a look of amusement.
"I haven't been called that in a long time, Richard is the only one who calls me that." He grinned. "I like it coming from you."
Another piece of the dream was confirmed. But I was glad I tested the name because of his reaction more so than the confirmation of my dream. I lightly pulled my hand away and gave him a little smile before turning and walking out the door. When I climbed into the car with Kirstie I glanced back at the house to see him standing in the door watching us leave.
"I think he likes you." Kirstie said with a sly smirk as we pulled away. she gave my shoulder a little nudge.
"Shut up." I said with a laugh.
**********
It didn't take long for sleep to find me, considering my week I wasn't surprised. I was fast asleep when I heard a loud thud coming from inside my apartment. I bolted up and turned on my bedside light. There wasn't anywhere to hide, but I still felt like I wasn't alone. I slowly crept out of bed and made my way to the built in lights, illuminating every shadow. I made my way around the whole apartment looking under the couch and bed, peeking into the tiny coat closet and searching the bathroom. Nothing was out of the ordinary.
I decided to leave it be, that I must've imagined it when I heard it again.
Thud.
I searched around quickly looking for it's source.
Thud. Thud. Thud.
It was coming from the door.
Not one for quietly waiting for the culprit to come crashing through the door to terrorize the poor defenseless girl like most horror movies, I went into the kitchen and grabbed a knife from my butcher block. I placed myself behind the door so when I opened it the person would come charging in at nothing and I could slip past. I braced myself and took a deep breath. I counted down from five, and threw the door open in front of me. I expected to see someone come walking in, but nothing. I brought the knife up high thinking whoever was out there was simply standing in place waiting to see me.
I circled around the door, knife held high and ready to strike. No one was there. I stood there for several moments waiting for someone to come, waiting to hear something. After about 5 minutes I decided to shut and lock the door again. Whoever it was had left.
I started making my way back to bed.
THUD. THUD. THUD. THUD. THUD.
Hard, angry bangs sounded off on the door in quick succession. I gripped the knife tight in my hand and grabbed my phone. First I dialed the local authorities but there was no answer, that alone sent chills down my spine but I threw my concerns aside and dialed Kirstie. I didn't want her to come here, but she could at least get Lex and the others to help.
THUD. THUD. THUD. THUD. THUD.
"Hello" Came a bright, cheery voice that sounded like my friend and simultaneously didn't. It was too happy, too bright. It was fake.
"Kirstie... I need help." I said slowly while keeping my eyes on the door.
"Well of course you do, silly." The voice replied.
THUD. THUD. THUD. THUD. THUD.
"Kirstie, I'm serious! There's someone at my do-"
I was cut off by a maniacal laugh, the sound of it grated against my eardrums and put a sick feeling in my stomach.
THUD. THUD. THUD. THUD. THUD.
The laugh had stopped only to be replaced by heavy frantic breathing on the other end of the line.
"Kirstie..." I whispered. There were some muffled sounds.
"Kirstie isn't here right now." It was a mans voice, one I didn't recognize.
The voice gave a soft, sinister chuckle.
"I'm coming."

I woke with a start covered in sweat and breathing heavy. It was a dream, thank the Lord it was just a dream. I threw my head back down onto the pillow and sighed in relief. I checked my phone and it read 10:07am. I wanted to go back to sleep but decided against it out of fear of finishing that dream.
I showered and ate a turkey sandwich I quickly threw together. I was still tired and decided to curl up on the couch with some coffee. Before I knew it, I was asleep again.
