"You see, this is why I didn't want to do a detour!"
"Too late to regret that! We’re already off our original plan so just shut up and run!"

The alarm clock beeped, reminding them that they had less than 7 hours till the start of their mission.
As the evening sunlight filtered into the space of the small apartment, sounds of papers shuffling could be heard.
"Why did they tell us the details on the day of the mission itself...there's so little time to prepare..." Her honey-brown eyes scanned the documents once more. The girl sighed loudly. "This is no fun..."
"I can't believe you, since when was going on missions fun?"
The young man who had just entered the room stared at the girl with the same brown eyes, holding two cups of coffee in his hands. He passed one to her and sat next to her.
“Thanks.” She took a sip. "I never said any of it was fun, I merely stated it wasn't."
"Lyn, if you ever mention that a mission is fun, I might have to kill the imposter."
"How rude! But true, I'd never say that. Don't you dare kill your sister on accident though, Jae."
The man did not reply and sipped his coffee. He moved over and plucked the papers out of Lyn's hand.
"Hey! I wasn't done reading." Lyn pouted and glared at her older brother.
"Nope, I saw you read it five times. You're done.” His eyes skimmed through the pages. "Stop pouting. I'm pretty sure you already memorised what's on this paper anyway."
Lyn looked out of the window, eyes trailing after the orange-hued clouds in the sky.
"Of course I did... It's not like we can bring those papers there. We won't even have the chance to look at them in the middle of the mission." She muttered under her breath. "What were they thinking, giving us a mission on the day itself. That's suicidal! Plus, we didn’t even get much out of our observation during the day."
Falling back onto the couch, she continued. "We only figured out where the target's room might be..."
Jae let out a grim laugh. "Maybe they really do want to kill us this time round. They can't be blamed if their best assassins are killed in such a simple infiltrate-and-kill mission. Sarcasm intended by the way, if you can't tell." He thought for a moment, then sighed. "Well, I think I figured out how the guard shifts are timed. It's only an estimation though, nothing accurate."
"We better eat something and go soon, the mansion is quite a distance away." Jae got up on his feet and head towards the kitchen.
As she stared at the ceiling, the little sister quietly whispered. "Why would they want to kill their top assassins..."
Jae, the older of the two twins, mumbled softly enough for the other to hear.
"You know why they would."
-
"We've been travelling for 3 hours and we're not there yet?! I don't know what's going to run out first, my patience or the gas. Why are we even the ones called to do this? Aren't there people nearer to the destination than we are?"
"Oh my god, Lyn. Can you stop asking questions you already know the answers to. In case you forgot, which I doubt you did and are only doing this to annoy me, we have a spare tank for the return trip. Plus, we’re the only available ones for this mission."
"But--"
"Don’t ask why, we just are. Also, look, I’m starting to see the mansion. We'll stop here."
Lyn hopped off the back seat and stretched while Jae parked it in the trees so that the branches camouflage it.
"Oh god, if the motorcycle didn’t alert anyone of our presence, the sound of my bones cracking sure will."
"You're exaggerating. Anyway, funny they provided us with transport of all things. This motorcycle isn't small either." Jae shifted his gears to a more comfortable position. "It was really quiet too."
"Well, it did help us." With a satisfied smile, Lyn stood up straight. "Ahh, that feels better. Let's go, we have a couple more hours to confirm the guards’ shift and the location of the rooms."

00:00 am
Lyn looked up at the inky black sky. She noticed that the moon was almost full tonight, and around it was the twinkling of thousands of stars.
“Hey, it's our birthday today, isn't it?” Lyn trekked forward, still staring at the sky.
“That’s what they said, but we don't know for sure.” Jae continued, “Heh, what if we really do die today, wouldn't it be funny?”
Dodging a kick aimed for his head, Jae looked at his sister. “I’m kidding! We both know we don't want to die like this.”
Lyn frowned and moved past him. She pulled her beanie further down her head, covering her hair.
“You know, you could’ve just cut it short and dye it like me, then you wouldn't need to wear a beanie in the first place.” Jae remarked as he walked closer to Lyn.
Brushing her fringe out of her face and readjusting her hair clips, Lyn huffed. “It’s part of my charm. Also, this looks like a good place to enter the building. You remember the plan?”
“Of course I do… I made the plan.”
Lyn grinned at her brother and moved away from the cover of the forest.
“Yay! Let's go then.”
-
The twins peeped over the corner. The guards patrolling the corridor finally left.
"We have a two minute window until the next pair of guards arrive at this area. We better take action now." Jae whispered as he eyed the staircase a few meters from where they were.
"Well I think it's two minutes anyway."
"Jae please don’t joke about this. It's terrifying."
The twins ran up the stairs soundlessly and continued to move through the place as quickly as they could to their destination. When they turned the corner...
BANG!
"You stupid child! What do you think you are doing?!"
The twins froze in their tracks. They trade glances and slowly crept towards the door. As Jae attempted to investigate the sound, the door suddenly slammed open.
"Useless thing..." The target walked out of the room.
Startled by the unwanted company, the very man they were trying to kill started to shout. "Who are you--"
He did not get the chance to finish his sentence, however. Jae sprung forward, grabbed the man's head and violently twisted it, snapping the neck in one swift motion. The entire scene happened in less than a second. The man fell to the ground with a muffled thud, face frozen with an expression of horror.
"Wow, you sure reacted quick." Lyn commented as she squatted down to grab their now-dead target's legs in an attempt to pull him into the room. "So cleanly too."
"Well duh, he's the boss of a company that manufactures the best weapons in this country." Jae replied, hoisting the corpse up by the armpits to move him. "Any longer and he might activate something that would send the entire situation to hell." The corpse's head lolled to the side. "Ah, the blood's going to start flowing, watch it."
Noticing the retina scanner that was weirdly placed next to the door, Jae positioned the man's lifeless eye in front of it. They shuffled in with the body and the door swung shut, locking itself behind them.
"What the heck was he even shouting at just now?" Lyn muttered before looking up. The answer to her question presented right in front of her.
Her honey-coloured eyes widened as they met a pair with the colours of the forest.
