(Jake's POV)

I chuckle when Dirk sighs. "Merry christmas Janey. You too Rox." Dirk grumbles and walks to the kitchen. "Dirk stop being a grump. It's christmas!" I say. "It’s six am and I haven't even had a good morning kiss or coffee." He says. I walk over and give him a kiss. "Good morning Love. Merry Christmas." He smiles and makes a cup of coffee.

We sit on the couch the girls were separating the presents. Every one had three. Dirk opened my present first. "I thought these were for you?" He says with a chuckle. I open his. They were the orange pair I had saw. I hug him. "Thanks Dirk. They are lovely." He smiles. "There is something in the left shoe." I pull out a little box and dirk got on one knee.

"Jake English will you do the honor of marrying me." I nod. "Yes Dirk yes." I get up and kiss him. "You stole my idea though look in the right shoe." He pulls out a box. He chuckles. Me and Jane make hot coco. Rox and Dirk were on their phones.

I hand Dirk his and take a sip of mine. Sweet chocolate. Jane had made cookies. "Janey these cookies are great!" I say with a smile. She smiles. "Thanks Jake." I put on my coat and the scarf that roxy made and then slip on my new shoes. I grab Bec's leash and shake it. The little white puppy came running.

"Hello Bec. Want to go outside." I put the leash on him and we walk down the stairs and outside. I run right into someone. "Jake i’m so sorry." I hear John's voice. "It’s alright John." I fix my glasses. "Hello Dave, Rose, and Jade.." Jade was petting Bec. "Hi uncle Jake." She says. "Everyone is up stairs."

She grabs my hand and looks at the ring. "He finally did it. Didn't he." I nod. Jade and Rose hug me. "Welcome to the family." Dave says. John was looking at his phone. I saw sadness in his face. Dave looks at him. "John. Babe what's wrong." He looks at him. "I will tell you later. Don't let it ruin our christmas." He puts on a smile and walks inside.

I get back to the apartment and hour later. I see John asleep in the chair. Dave and Dirk were in the kitchen and the girls had left. I cover John up. I walk in the kitchen after i took Bec's leash off. He lays with John.

Dave had John phone in his hand. I notice Dave and Dirk had their shades off. "Whats wrong?" Dave hands me the phone. It was John's doctor. I read the message. "John I'm sorry to tell you but you test came positive. You have Stage 2 lung cancer. I'm so sorry John. I've been your doctor since you were born. It hurts me to tell you this."

I look at Dave. I hug him. "Dave I’m so sorry." He starts crying. I put the phone back and sit on the couch until John wakes up. "Hey. John can I ask you a question?" he nods. "John what’s wrong?" He looks at me and hugs me. "I have cancer. Fucking cancer Jake. Me and Dave were going to get married. I was going to become a great scientist."

"Shhh. Calm down." I hug back. "It’s okay John. Shhh. Let me tell you something." I say softly. He wipes his tears. "What?" he ask. "I was diagnosed with Stage 2 bone cancer. Any day now I will not be able to stand on my own nor walk."I feel my knees getting tired. So I sit down.

"So why do you take Bec out to walk?" I sigh. "Soon i will be in a wheelchair and not able to run with him or walk around the park." I sigh. "I enjoy walking with Bec." I say softly. "Does Dirk know?"

I nod. "I told him at the beginning of our relationship." "So why do you take Bec out to walk?" I sigh. Dirk rubs my back. "Like I said we all in this together." I smile. "I know."
