The next couple of days were fairly uneventful, and boring. Considering the events that happened at The Dragon’s Lair, we decided it was best to push our little adventure back a few days, which I was thankful for. But now, sitting here with no job, I was desperate for something to do. Sitting here cooped up – in part because of my leg – was driving me nuts. I decided to have a nice google day… more specifically on the supernatural. I searched everything I was told about and came across articles and conspiracy sites talking about the creatures that stalk the night and superhumans with powers, things I could now confirm to be true. But searching Memory Keeper, I came up blank, there was absolutely nothing about them. No folklore or myths, no tales of aliens stealing memories disguised as humans, nothing. It was strange, it was as if of all these creatures and supernatural things, they were the ones too dangerous to speak of.
Upon searching my mysterious symbol, along with The Seer, I found one lone link leading me to one sentence: What he sees, he judges, and his eyes are in every place. The dark undertone of that haunting sentence sent a shiver down my spine. I stared at it till the words began to blur and my mind drifted into thoughts too deep to speak. Feelings that were foreign began springing up to the surface. I felt recognition in those words, like something in me was connecting with that sentence.
I nearly leapt out of my skin when someone knocked on my door. My most recent nightmares came to mind, and I stood there staring at the door, just waiting for it to come crashing in and the gun shots to start firing. I could still hear that woman’s scream, chilling my blood. The knock came again, but slightly harder.
“Liv?” Came a voice from the other side, I recognized it, it belonged to one of the twins.
I walked over slowly, calming my nerves to avoid any questions about my mood. I hated being asked what’s wrong?, and are you ok? Taking a steadying breath and plastering a small smile on my face, I opened up to Logan and Liam standing there. Liam was standing behind Logan with his arms crossed over his chest, Logan was leaning against the door frame, hand posed to knock again.
“Hey boys, what’s up?” I ask, smiling at them.
“We were bored and thought we’d see how you were doing.” Logan replied, standing up straight with a childlike smile.
“Oh, that’s sweet.” I was touched that they thought of me! “How did you know where I live?”
“Kirstie.” Liam said as he moved past us and placed himself comfortably on my couch.
“May we come in?” Logan asked sarcastically, rolling his eyes at his brother’s boldness.
I laughed. “Sure. Make yourselves comfortable.”
Logan walked in and removed his coat, draping it over the arm of the couch before taking a seat next to his brother.
“Would you guys like a drink?” I ask, reaching into the fridge for some apple juice.
“Water is fine.” Logan replied with a smile.
I got my juice and 2 cups of water and joined them. They were whispering to each other when I approached, they stopped their secret conversation and thanked me for the drinks.
“So, as sweet as you guys visiting me is, is that really the only reason why you’re here?” I was beginning to doubt there wasn’t some ulterior motive here.
They stared at me, straight faced, for a few seconds. Then they turned to each other seeming to have a conversation with their facial expressions, my eyes narrowed into slits. Whatever they were here for, it didn’t seem like it was good.
After what seemed a lifetime, Logan finally cleared his throat and slid forward on the couch, leaning onto his knees like he was about to have a heart to heart with me.
“Ok, as much as we adore you, and we do. Don’t we Liam?” He said nodding in Liam’s direction, earning a nod from Liam. “Things have gotten… worrisome since you came into our lives.” He paused, thinking through his next choice of words.
“So… you want me to get out of the picture.” I say quietly, finishing it for him. I wasn’t expecting this from them, Felix maybe, but not them. I admit, I felt a little hurt.
“No, not at all.” Logan said with a smile. “we love you being around! But we get a very strong feeling bad things follow you…”
“I don’t understand what you’re getting at…” I was full on glaring now, not knowing where this was going, but I didn’t like it so far. I was not easily offended, but this whole conversation was against me and I didn’t much enjoy it.
Logan sighed and ran a hand through his hair, the action made me think of Lex. He called and texted me consistently, up until last night. I admit, considering the events at my former place of work, it worried me that he stopped. They seemed as if nothing was wrong though, so I assume he's just busy and my silly emotions are messing with my brain.
“Unbelievable…” Liam murmured. “If you won’t say it, I will. We want you to get spelled.”
They both stared at me, gauging my reaction. I just stared back, confused.
“Guys…” I sigh and point to myself. “I’m still oblivious to like 80% of your world.”
“Right, we keep forgetting that.” Logan laughed.
“We want you to let someone cast a watcher spell on you.” Liam said.
“Basically, we know a certain nymph who can cast glyphs on people, this one will essentially place a tracker on you. If someone from our world comes in a certain distance of you, our friend will know, or if something strange happens to you, she’ll sense it.” Logan explained.
“So, she’ll be stalking me?” I ask with a sour expression.
“No!” Logan said while Liam said “Yes.” at the same time.
“Look, I know it’s weird, and slightly invasive, but this will give everyone a small form of protection. We’ll be able to be assured that no big bad people are near you, and you’ll have the peace of mind knowing that if anyone comes after you, we’ll be able to find and save you!” Logan said, trying to ease my suspicions.
“This sounds very… invasive. What if she’s not as trustworthy as you think?” I ask, not liking the idea of being tracked.
“I know, we just… we want to make sure everyone is safe in all this, especially considering who might be coming for you.” Logan sighs. I can tell he doesn’t want to be having this conversation. “We’ve known her since we were children, she actually used to babysit us. We trust her like we would trust our own sister."
“Just, think about it, alright?” Liam says while standing up. I nod my agreement.
Logan stands to join his brother and glances at my open computer.
“What is this?” He asks as he leans in to read it.
“Nothing, just looking into some stuff.” I reply.
“Liam, come read this.”
Liam walks up beside him and leans into the screen.
“Hey, isn’t this from that poem in that really old book?” Liam says, lightly smacking his brothers arm.
“What book?” My interest piqued.
“There’s a library about an hour from here, it has this old book on display. On the open pages is a poem with this sentence in it.” Liam answers.
Something in me is saying that I need to see that book.
“Can you take me to it?”
