We made it to the surface just before the sun set. Apparently we had been down there for most of the day. “Come on guys, let's go.” I said, far ahead of the group.
“Uuggghhh. You guys are soooooooooo slow.” Flowey said in frustration.
“What do you mean?” I said. “I'm ahead of you.”
“This is just soooooooooo boring.”
“Well, lucky for you, this is his place right here.” I said, stepping in front of a small house.
“Can I just hang out outside? I really don't want to go in there.” Flowey said, eyeing the house.
“Fine.” I said, exasperated. “But don't go anywhere.” We stepped inside the house. “Sans? Are you there?” I called out. All the lights were off, which is pretty odd, unless Sans was trying to prank me across space and time again. There was a note on the table to Papyrus. It read:
dear paps,
i’ll be in my room if you need me. or at grillby’s, it depends.
from, sans
“Well, that sums it up.” I said. “C’mon Sarah, let's see if he’s in his room.” We go down a narrow hallway and to the left, and there’s Sans, taking a nap. Of course he’s taking a nap. Why wouldn't he? I silently went over and shook him awake. He woke with a start and looked about ready to shoot a Gaster Blaster at me.
“woah, kid! what the heck!” Sans saw me and started calming down.
“Sorry Sans.” I said, backing up a bit. “I didn't mean to startle you. It’s just, I have a bit of a problem, and was hoping you could help me fix it.”
“sure, it's not like i have a skele-ton of work to do right now.”
Okay, well, this might come as a shock to you,” I said nervously. What would his response be if I brought up Chara? “Chara is possessing my dreams, and I want it to stop!” Sans’s eyes turned dark, remembering the little demon child killing everyone and taking over Frisk, only a few resets ago.
“did you say chara?”
“Y-yeah.” I said nervously. His eyes were still dark. They only went that way when he was dead serious. This couldn't be good. “W-why?” Sans then realized that he was scaring me, and his eyes went back to normal.
“oh, sorry ‘bout that. its nothing.”
“It's obviously something.” I replied. “Sans, I'm scared, and you are the only one that can help me.” I said, tears forming at the corners of my eyes. Then I felt a strange feeling, and everything went black.
~~~
“Frisk? You can't hide from me forever.” Chara said.
“No, go away.” I said. “Quit bugging me.”
“But Frisk, we’re connected now, after what you did.”
“What did I do?” I asked, frightened.
“Come on now.” Chara said, an evil smile on her face.
“Stop looking at me like that!” I screamed. “This isn't funny anymore!”
“We both know what you did.” She said to me, her ruby red eyes glowing. “And so does he.”
~~~
“frisk! wake up!” Sans was yelling at me. “kid, you’ve been out for an hour. are you okay?”
“No.” I said, shaking. “Chara came back. She said I did something, something bad, but I don't remember anything. She said that you know, but the only thing I've ever done is make friends with you guys, and...and...” I broke down crying.
I quickly glanced up at Sans, and sadness flickered across his face for a brief moment.
“look, kid,” He said to me. “if you don't remember it, then it’s not worth getting worked up about.”
“But- but what’d I do?” I asked, tears streaming down my face. “I have to know.”
“you really want to know?” Sans asked, looking at me.
“Yes.” I said, though truly, I was more nervous than I had ever been in my life.
“okay. just know that it was the player and chara, not you.”
“Okay.”
“it started out as normal as any reset would. then, something went wrong. you started killing everyone. i should have stopped you at the gate. but i thought you could change. So i let you go on ahead, but then you killed papyrus, and the rest of my friends. finally, i met you in the judgment hall, just like any other time. then we battled. i stopped you repeatedly, but in the end, you won out. chara had taken you over, then you killed me and everyone else. and that was it.”
I stared at him in shock. “I- I killed everyone?”
“not you. the player and chara. don't put this on yourself. it wasn't your fault.”
