Chapter 3: The Truth and Farewells – Part 1

Chapter 3: The Truth and Farewells – Part 1

Oct 17, 2017

The next morning I awakened to a terrible pain to my shoulder. I knew It, I should have slept inside but at least the girl is safe. Before I get another hit I open my eyes to adjust them while retreating as fast as I could.

I was ready to dodge the next hit but felt a strike to my left side, now that my vision is back to normal there was not one but three ogres this time. One in front swinging away with this club while the other was going for the second hit to my left side and the third was trying to budge the large bolder, it was the smallest out of the three. The girl was nowhere in sight so she must be hiding in the inner room which was a relief. It was time to use my fire I was still dodging the hits as best as I could some still went through but were light.

I was concentrating on getting the feeling from yesterday but with the constant moving, I kept getting interrupted. I finally gave up on using flames getting angry at the foul play and slashed one of the Ogres only to be repelled by his club which was smashed into two pieces.

I went for the bite when he was stunned looking at his weapon and since the Ogre was too clumsy in the dark, I bit with a direct hit on the neck. The other not giving up tried to save his comrade by going for a hit to my head, I had to let go instantly but the damage was done it was holding its neck preventing more blood from coming out.

Unluckily for them, my hunger kicked in and I lost my sense of pain, I went for another bite towards the fallen Ogre giving him a definite hit. It died instantly while the smaller one now entered the fight it was still an unfair battle but I had no fear this time.

My instincts took over and before they could join forces I unleash a powerful fire at both scorchings the area around me. With the area lit, I could see the girl astonished in the entrance hiding. I stopped my flames as soon as I saw her and shook my head trying to recover my reasoning.

I did a small sigh after eating, I was in a bad mood since the moment I regained myself. While I could finally taste a somewhat cooked meal, sadly most was charred but the terror the girl showed towards me in the fight kept repeating in my mind. I wanted to believe there was still some humanity in me but I keep losing it to hunger.

The girl got her share and made another campfire using her shield like a type of pot since it was kind of round dented outward. She didn’t seem to change her stance since she was in front of me but if compared to yesterday she didn’t seem to want to communicate. I was in my own world with my face towards the side so I don’t blame her but every so often I sneak a glance and she is sitting watching the fire waiting for her meal to cook with her arms over her knees.

There was a silence in the morning but finally the girl broke it by casting a type of magic near my arm while I was napping, it felt refreshing but it took a while for it to completely heal. At first, I gave a small glance at the girl using her magic but instead of looking at me she kept concentrating on healing.

After finishing she laid down panting, I kind of felt bad for her since she probably took an hour to completely cure all my injuries. Although no blood was visible from the hits some of my scales broke and by using her magic they would mend themselves. Using my tail I could only return her kindness by patting her lightly on the shoulder and she went to sleep.

Since I could not move there was nothing but a day of thinking ahead, it was sad but life was boring as the only amusement were the terrible fights in the morning. The girl and I have not been able to establish communications other than simple gestures and even then it was difficult since the only light source was the illuminating ceiling or when a fire was made.

The girl finally woke up a few hours later and went to the lake to clean her body. Since I could see in the dark I excused myself from watching her bathe, maybe she understood this and gave me heads-up before taking her bath. While the water was cold I guess she didn’t want to be without a bath for too long.

A week passed by and I now grew to be five or six meters in length, the smaller room was becoming a pain to enter having to adjust my wings to exit or enter. I was getting anxious since I was not going to be able to enter that room if I kept at this pace. The battles were becoming easier as I could now make my flames at whim and when I was not in battle the girl would do mock battles to strengthen herself mainly practicing her magic or sword styles not that I could fight her limiting myself to my tail for her sparring partner.

It was finally the end of our third week together when I finally understood that I was forced to go to sleep by a particular sound. I could not hear it before but slowly I started to be able to distinguish the noise which had a calming effect and while I was drowsy under it I could not fight against it to keep myself from sleeping. It was also during this week I felt a bit proud since I have not once gotten out of control.

Since the incident on the day with the three Ogres I worked hard to keep my sanity, at first I failed but practice by keeping one of my opponents alive for half a day. The opponent at the time was another Dragonoid type beast who was even bigger and smarter than the one before, even resisting the girl’s magic. Of course, my intention was not to finish the battle fast but learn more from it and so when I finally felt that I was able to stay in control I finally dealt with the dragon.

It was the greatest day for Chris a hard-working individual who was in a one-sided love with his bosses secretary, Rachel. He was not only able to talk to her but also have a nice dinner in a Café near his workplace. Sadly for Chris that would be his last day on Earth. As he was heading back home after saying his farewell, he was hit by a car ending his life in a quick death.

To his surprise, he had awakened but unlike the usual start of any normal day, he felt a dissonance in the way his body responded to him. He found himself encased in a large object unable to get a proper response from any of his senses.

This is a story about his new life, one where he must choose what role he will partake in this unfamiliar world while trying to find a way to return to being human.
