So, after breakfast, I hopped in the shower, and got dressed in my snazziest job-hunting outfit: a red leather skirt, pink top, and denim jacket with fuzzy cuffs. If this doesn't scream "Please hire me, I'm desperate" I don't know what will.
Mimi told me the general location of this convenience store and how to get there. Basically, you walk a couple blocks down from our house and it's around Sirena Park, next to a dry cleaner's. So, I commence my journey to the land of retail and consumerism.
I'm stumbling around the town and honestly, it isn't even that bad. Sirena Falls was predominantly some little fishing town back in the 19-whenever's and I guess sometime during the 2000's people realized that it wouldn't be a bad idea to make a vacation destination. Soon, resorts and big name companies started moving over and the rinky dink town turned into a diamond encrusted souvenir key chain. It still retains some of its rustic charms with its old fashioned wooden Victorian houses and little cottages down by the beach, but the place is filled to the brim with rich folk itching to get a sunburn while staying in their vacation homes during the summer months.
I make it to Sirena Park and I'm looking around for this convenience store when I hear screaming. I whip my head around to figure out where it's coming from so I can start sprinting out of there. I look to my left and I see a gang of kids not much older than I am hanging around a fountain. They're all sitting on the fountain's bench and just having a fabulous time together.
I look closer at them. There were three girls and two boys. One girl, the one who was screaming, was tossing her head back in absolute bliss and showing off her too white and too straight teeth. Her hair was platinum blonde and stick straight. She was wrapped around a boy who, quite honestly, should marry me.
He had brown hair with one side longer than the other and the prettiest eyes I've ever seen. He was wearing a military green shirt and jeans that probably cost about the same as my dad's Porshe, but was as ripped as a pair found at a thrift store. What is it with rich people spending money to look poor? Then I remember my own pair of ripped jeans and laugh. We already have so much in common. The laughing stopped, and it occurs to me I have just been standing in front of these people dumbfounded for at least a minute. I snap out of it and realize the girl with the million dollar smile was staring right at me. I stand straighter.
"Um, can I help you?", she sneered, a smile playing on her mauve lips.
I stall and think of some excuse to be staring at these people. "Uh, yes, actually! I need to find, er, Fish-E-Mart", I said staring at the set of directions Mimi left for me on the counter.
The blonde girl and her other two friends snorted in unison.
"Why would you wanna go there?", blondie asked through her giggles.
I felt myself getting red. Who the fuck is this girl? Just as I was about to tell her exactly where I'd like her to go, the pretty boy spoke up.
"Really? I know someone who works there!", he said excitedly. His brown eyes twinkled at me. Wow, he had some long eyelashes.
"O-o-oh, seriously? Who? Maybe I know 'em", I said, knowing that I couldn't possibly know who he knows or why I even said that.
"My roommate, Morgan! They've been complaining about how understaffed they are for the longest. Are you planning on working there?"
Morgan?! So... they must be a guy. Wow, if Morgan is as hot as what's-his-face, I wouldn't mind wearing an apron for a few hours.
"Yeah! Totally. I just love, er, working. You know, the long hours, the clocking in, the clocking out. Really good stuff, working", I babble.
At this point, Blondie speaks up again.
"Oh really? I heard that place smells like fish food that's been marinating in a sweaty sock. I think a guy died there once, too", she said, looking down at her nails.
"Psh, what? Trisha, you're making that up. That place is great. Morgan gets an employee discount so I've been filling up on Cheezy Snack-Os", the boy said, playfully shoving Trisha's arm. She rolled her eyes.
"Whatever, Jay. You know you shouldn't be eating that on your off season anyways. It'll make you fat", Trisha said. Off season, huh? This Jay must be an athlete. Interesting.
"Uh, right. Anyways, do you know where this place is?", I said, eager to turn the attention back on me.
"Oh right! It's right over there, past those two maple trees. It has a bright orange sign, you can't miss it," Jay replied, pointing behind him.
"Oh, thanks! I guess I'll be seeing you around", I said, batting my eyelashes and beginning to walk away.
"Oh yeah I hope so! My name's Jay, by the way. This is Trisha. Those two over there are Trisha's friends Katie and Katy. And this guy here is my friend and Trisha's bro, Tristan", Jay said, pointing to each person. Katie and Katy both looked up at me and studied my face carefully, smiling. Tristan didn't even bother to glance up from his phone. Neat.
"Right. I'm Honey. I'm new here", I replied.
"Oh, seriously? Maybe I'll show you around some- Oof!", Jay started before he was elbowed in the side by Trisha.
"Haha, that would be great! I'd better get going. Bye!"
I sauntered away, feeling proud of myself. Wow, first day here and I've already found myself a potential future ex-husband. I'm on a roll.
