Kato and Seth walked down the street together, silent after their exchange with Samantha. He didn't expect anyone to know him, much less recognize him on the street. To be honest, he was shocked. But he was glad it happened because of what Seth said. For the first time, he didn't mind the idea of belonging to somebody. If it was him he belonged to.
"Are you hungry?" Seth asked, snapping him out of his thoughts.
"Oh, uh, hmm... Yes?" He said, a little at a loss for words. He'd once again forgotten he was human and that food was needed. Well, half-human to be exact.
"Good because there's a cafe right there." He steered him into a little building where the scent of coffee filled the air. "This was where I got those donuts."
"Oh?" He smiled. "That's cool."
"Sit here and wait for me." Once he sat down, Seth jogged over to the counter and began talking to the woman on the other side who blushed and started twirling her finger in her hair. Sometimes his charm got on his nerves.
Sighing, he leaned back and looked at the ceiling. The wall was plain and white, nothing interesting that caught his attention. But it helped him think.
"Hello there." Someone said and he looked back down to see a stranger sitting in the seat opposite of him. He was handsome, almost as handsome as Seth. He had pale blond hair and dark brown eyes and he wore black clothes. "I'm Henry." He was grinning, like this was the best thing to happen to him. "Do you know Seth?"
Kato looked at him then back at Seth who was just now turning from the cashier. When he spotted Henry, his eyes widened before darkening. He recognized him. First Samantha, now Henry.
"Hello? Earth to you, kid." Henry reached over and he moved back, returning his attention to the man in front of him. Before he had time to speak and tell him off, Seth's hand came out and gripped Henry's wrist tightly.
"Touch him and I kill you, Henry." Seth hissed out and his tail swished rapidly in anger.
"Hey, Seth! I saw you walk in with this human boy and I got curious!" Henry said, leaning back and taking his hand away from his grip.
Seth sat down beside Kato and his arm wrapped itself around his waist, pushing him towards him. Leaning in, Kato whispered, "who is this guy?"
"Another demon." He whispered back. "Careful. I don't know what he's up to."
He nodded slightly and eyed him suspiciously.
"So who's the boy? Did you find yourself a snack?" Henry asked, looking into Kato's eyes.
"Eating humans is against the law for the Underworld. You know that." Seth said, his voice even and smooth.
"The rules don't apply anymore, remember? The King is dead." He rolled his eyes. "I'm free to do what I want now."
Kato curled his hands in his lap, glaring at him. So it was okay to eat people because my father is dead? He thought, annoyed.
Henry put his chin in his hand and looked at Seth's tail. "You're so carefree. I can understand if the kid can't see but the angels can." He smirked and his own tail and horns appeared. His horns were black with pale white stripes and the end of his tail had pale blond fur.
Kato pressed his lips together as he watched it swish back and forth. Yeah, he was definitely a demon. No doubting it now.
Henry leaned forward, his eyes wide. "Wait, you can see it?" He turned to Seth. "Who is this kid?"
"That's none of your business," Seth muttered, glaring.
"Can you please stop talking about me like I'm not here?" He snapped, annoyed. He wanted to leave and he felt oddly restless. The vibe this man gave off made his skin all prickly and his nerves were running away from him.
"Oh snap, he's got spunk." Henry tilted his head. "My apologies. Like I said before, I'm Henry, a friend of Seth's." He chuckled. "Though he doesn't think of me like that." He turned to Seth. "Want to come to my house tonight? We can get freaky." He winked.
Kato stood up, slamming his hands down on the table. Now he was pissed as the feeling went through his whole body. "You leave Seth alone." He growled, leaning forward. "He's mine." Then he crawled out from the table, grabbed Seth's hand, and dragged him out of the cafe.
"Kato?" Seth asked, squeezing his hand. "Are you alright?"
His breath was quickening. He was oddly upset. "I... I don't know." He walked into the alley, let go of his hand, and slid down the wall onto the ground.
"That was extremely sexy, you know." Seth bent down in front of him. "Calling me yours." He put his finger under his chin and they looked each other in the eyes.
"I'm sorry. I don't know what came over me. I don't like that guy." He turned his eyes away. "You won't go with him, right?" Oh please don't say you'll go with him, he thought, biting his lip.
"Of course not. I've never once accepted his invitations." He chuckled. "And I love you so I won't be going anywhere with anyone. I promise." He smirked. "Your body is the only one I want to do."
A blush spread across his cheeks and he pouted. "I'm not going to give it to you, pervert." But he couldn't help but smile.
Seth pouted. "I thought I'd get you this time... Darn." He smirked and held out his hand. "Let's go back in. If he's still there, we can sit at a different table and ignore him. If he tries sitting with us, I'll use mind control and tell him to get the fuck out."
He nodded, taking his hand and allowing himself to be pulled to his feet. "Hey, Seth?"
"Yes?" He slung his arm around his shoulder.
Leaning his head on his shoulder, he lowered his eyes. "I love you." He wasn't used to saying it, but he meant it. There was no way of describing this feeling as something else.
His arm tightened around him. "I love you too." He felt him kiss the top of his head.
They slowly went back to the cafe only to find out that Henry was still sitting there, grinning. He waved at them but Kato ignored it and turned his eyes away, allowing Seth to lead him to another table. "What did you get, by the way?" Kato asked, leaning back.
"Oh. I asked her what would be a healthy lunch and she said the sandwiches were so I got two of those and a vanilla shake. Those sound good?" He asked, rubbing his arm from around his shoulder.
"Oh sure. That sounds great." A little too great, he added to himself. He's not used to being treated.
"So are you two friends or something?" Henry was standing at the end of the table, crossing his arms. He was still grinning but he was now eyeing Kato carefully.
"He's my lover. I suggest you go away." Seth said, not bothering to look at him.
"Your... lover?" He muttered. "No way. You do realize that the kid's human right? A demon can only have one lover in his life. Have you two... done it yet? If not, it's not too late to go back." He put his hands on the table and leaned forward.
"What we have and haven't done is none of your business. Now bug off." Seth said, waving his hand. "Or I'll make you."
"I'll make you mine, Seth!" Henry shouted, startling the cashier as he grabbed his arm, his tail swishing back and forth angrily. "I'll make you my lover!"
"E-excuse me." The cashier said, walking up and placing down the sandwich on the table along with the slushie. "I-I'll have to ask you to q-quiet down or you'll have to... leave..." She stammered, her face pale as she talked to Henry.
Kato glared at him, clutching the fabric of his pants. He was once again pissed off. He could feel his power circulating through his body and had to slowly breathe to calm himself.
Seth placed his hand over his and rubbed his thumb across it, leaning in to whisper, "he put a charm on himself. I can't control his mind." He sounded calm but he could feel how stiff he was.
"Well, that's not good." He muttered back, watching as Henry stared at her.
"You..." He muttered, then he perked up, turning angry. "You dare interfere, you stupid human girl?" He shouted and she backed away, apologizing repeatedly. He raised his hand straight up into the air and a sword of orange flame appeared in his palm.
"Hey!" Kato shot out from the chair and dashed in front of the girl. "Calm down! Don't go terrorizing innocent people because you're throwing a childish tantrum!" He shouted, glaring.
Seth jogged over and put his arm around his waist, pulling him slightly behind. "You've crossed the line, Henry." He growled, his hand growing a bright blue flame sword.
Henry growled and brought down his sword and they clashed. He watched in bewilderment before realizing that the girl was still there. Turning, he bent down in front of her and she flinched away, frightened.
"Don't worry. I'm not going to hurt you." He smiled. "I have to break this up before they destroy your cafe but can you run behind the counter until this is over? I don't want you getting hurt." He started to get up before pausing. "And I'm really really sorry about this. Your donuts are delicious."
The girl crawled away and behind the counter while he stood and turned back to the fight. The two were clashing enough to make the floor rumble. There were a lot of sounds like wooshing and hissing coming from their blades.
He was extremely angry about this. He knew Seth was just trying to protect him so he couldn't get angry at him, but Henry, on the other hand, pissed him the fuck off.
Strolling over and getting a confused and worried look from Seth, he raised both of his hands and when they went at each other again, he grabbed their swords. Right on the blade. It didn't hurt and it didn't burn like he thought it would. Instead, the fires dispersed until they were left empty-handed.
Glaring, he turned to Henry. "How rude can you be? First, don't hurt innocent people. That one should be obvious to anyone. Second, if you're going to play with fire, do it on your own time and away from places where it can cause people harm. That should also be obvious." He sighed. "But then again, I doubt you could remember that with how small your brain is." He could hear Seth stifling laughter. Sorry Seth, he thought, but I can't hold back. I need some venting time.
Henry gaped at him. "What... how..." He lifted his hand and examined it. "That's impossible!"
"What's impossible is how stupid you've already gotten." He rolled his eyes. "You're officially on my shit list, you know that?" He turned and poked Seth in the side. "Let's go ahead and leave him to mull over this for a while." He muttered and Seth nodded, following him out.
"Thanks for the save," Seth said, reaching down to grab his hand but he jerked away. "Kato?"
"You're going to explain to me what he meant." He said, standing a good distance away. "And I'm not going to let you lay a finger on me until you do." Not like I really let him in the first place, he thought.
"What he meant by what?" Seth asked, crossing his arms.
"What he meant about demons only being able to have one lover." He said, resisting the urge to look at him.
"Oh, that." He muttered. "Yeah, I was going to tell you eventually, but..." He sighed. "Don't be upset when I tell you."
"Upset?" He breathed out before shaking his head. "I'm already upset. I'm not sure how you can make it worse."
"Oh trust me, it'll happen." He whispered like he was telling himself rather than him.
The rest of the walk was silent. He felt uncomfortable and vulnerable not being by Seth's side but he was also too stubborn to let that go. He needed answers. And he wanted them now.
When they entered the motel room, Kato leaned against the wall and waited for Seth to sit before raising an eyebrow. "Well?"
"You're so controlling when your upset." He laughed but it sounded strangely small. "Basically, when demons find their lovers..." He sucked in a breath. "The two souls become attached. So, they're basically together until one dies."
Kato rubbed his arm, contemplating that. "What happens when one dies?"
"The other one eventually passes away as well." He muttered. "They suffer a great deal from being apart and eventually die from body malfunction."
"D-die...?" He whispered, his eyes going wide. "T-tell me... What do you have to do to become attached?" He needed to know so it can never happen. He feared it might have been too late but didn't want to give up hope.
"This might shock you, but I'm a virgin." He smiled softly. That did shock him. He thought he was a total lady-killer. "When you become attached through the body, then the souls attach." He cleared his throat.
"You mean...?" He muttered, stiffening.
"Sex." He muttered, blushing and turning away. That was the first time he'd seen him blush. He turned back and stood. "If there's one person I want to be attached to, it's you." He smiled and walked over but Kato moved away.
"Not happening." He shook his head, looking carefully at him. "Ever." His hands shook.
"Kato..." He muttered, tilting his head. "Are you afraid?"
"Yes!" He shouted, flinging his arms into the air. "Or did you forget I'm half human? I'll probably end up growing old and dying! If that happens, and we're together, what do you think will happen to you?" He breathed out harshly and ran his fingers through his hair, turning away. "I can't. I just can't."
"Kato," Seth growled and he felt his hand wrap around his wrist. He tried jerking away but he ended up being tossed onto the bed where he gasped and tried to sit up, only to be pinned down again. Seth looked down at him, glaring. "Excuse me, but I believe I've already told you that I love you."
He shook his head, tears pooling in his eyes. "What if you died because of me?" He whispered, choking on a sob. "I want you to live. I don't want to bind you. I can't stand that."
"And who said I can live without you?" He muttered, looking into his eyes. "Who said I didn't want to be bound by you?"
"But why?" He shook his head. "I don't understand."
"Because..." He bent down, using one of his hands to cup his cheek. "I love you. I love everything about you. The way you shy away from being touched, snap when being complimented, snap at people who do wrong and make my heart beat whenever you smile. I love the way you act, the way you talk, the way you breathe, everything. So if you think for a second that I'd ever regret it, you're wrong."
Kato looked at him, trying to decide whether he should believe him or not. But before he had the chance to decide, he was being kissed. It was rough and he was definitely surprised. He wanted to push him away and say no, but his body did the opposite and instead his arms wrapped around his neck. He loved him. He loved him and wanted him to be his. He wished that he lived forever with Seth. He could only hope it came true.
