Suddenly, someone was singing. Henry stood up straighter and was singing a familiar song he'd heard somewhere. He believed it was from a band called Imagine Dragons and the song itself was called Monster. The other demons cheered and grabbed partners or danced in groups while singing along.
"This is what we call a party down here in Hell," Seth said, laughing and grabbing his hips, pulling him to his chest. His hands slithered to his lower back and Kato looped his hands around his neck.
"Oh? Never been to one so I couldn't really compare it to anything." He said, raising an eyebrow.
"Good." He muttered, looking into his eyes. "That just means I can make this the best party for your first." The singing continued and changed to a different song. They were oddly good at it.
Seth suddenly reached up and unlooped his hands from around his neck and spun him. He gasped and giggled, furrowing his eyebrows in confusion as they were suddenly moving around and twirling and dancing, the other demons doing the same.
Seth smirked and twirled him to another person who spun him, making him laugh again before bringing him to another person. When he came to Franky, the big man placed a hand on his hip and held him close, spinning him once before handing him to Henry who actually hugged him, picking him off his feet to spin him. Annie took hold of him next and kissed his cheek before she folded him against her chest then unfolded him in a spin.
That's when he bumped into Seth again, who held him close and slowed his pace. Kato was panting and grinning, dazed by the dance.
"I love you, Kitty." Seth bent down and kissed him and he immediately kissed him back, gripping the front of his shirt.
Cheers and claps sounded from around and Kato blushed, breaking away and giggling.
"Welcome home," Seth said, his gaze softening.
Kato stared at him before laughing, choking back a sob and resting his head on his chest. "Good to be home." He whispered and Seth hugged him close.
"What's this? Are you celebrating my return?" Someone with a loud and deep voice interrupted and Seth immediately released him, pulling him behind him as the demons parted and surrounded Kato's sides.
"Father?" Seth called out and a man with a woman latched to his side appeared from a door. His father? He wondered, peeking out from under his arm. He was tall and big, bigger then Franky. He was smirking and he had an air around him that said he'd kick anyone's ass who dared go against him. He definitely looked like a slightly older version of Seth and Annie. The woman, on the other hand, was small. Smaller than him for once. But she was beautiful. She had long, naturally red curly hair that hung to her knees. Though she was frowning, almost glaring.
"Hello, my son." His father said, looking around. "I arrived as quickly as I could when I heard about his Majesty." He bowed his head. "I'm so sorry to hear about your loss." He looked up quickly and smirked deeper, his eyes seeming to get darker. He felt true evil pouring off of him. "Though, as his second in command, I'll take control of the Underworld in his place. Someone, please fetch me some water and I'll explain our journey. Quickly now!"
"That's unnecessary father," Seth said, straightening.
His father raised an eyebrow. "Oh? Are you saying you're going to defy me? His Majesty produced no heirs so there is no one else to look over the Underworld. As a present, we'll even take over the human realm."
"No, father. He did produce an heir." Seth said, his hand snaking back and rubbing Kato's belly.
Kato stared at the man, unable to believe this was happening. Did he just say take over the human realm? He thought to himself. And that he was going to take over the Underworld? He hated the sound of that, oddly enough. He felt evil on the man and he knew it hurt this place more then help it.
The man narrowed his eyes, glaring at his son. "Oh? Then show me who this child is. And his Majesty's lover, since he'll have had to have one to produce a child."
"His lover has passed on," Seth said but he stepped aside, pulling Kato to his side. "But this is his son which he created in secret. For reasons."
"His son?" The man looked Kato up and down in disgust. "The child is human. There's no way." He rolled his eyes. "Kill the human and come to my room, Seth. Enough of this childish nonsense. I need to discuss our plans for war."
The other demons stepped up, Franky in the lead. "He is his child. We've seen it with our own eyes. He stood up to Annie to protect his lover, Seth, from injury. He's strong and it's fairly obvious he's his son."
The man scrunched his face up in anger. "If you aren't going to kill him, I will." He stepped forward, a sword of red flame appearing in his hand. "Besides, my son doesn't have a lover. I haven't decided who he'll marry yet."
Seth and the others produced their own swords, each a different color of fire. "We'll have to ask you to back down."
Kato stood there in utter shock. He had no idea what was going on. Was this man actually serious? And what did he mean by choosing someone for Seth to marry? Like he'd ever let that happen. He was his.
"Then why does he smell of human?" His father snapped.
"Because his mother was human," Annie said, standing to the right side of Kato. "He's half human, father."
He snorted. "Impossible. No one can survive giving birth to a half-demon child, much less the child living past a single year of age." He scowled. "Besides, I've got no proof this child is his."
"Father, stand down," Seth said, glowering.
"Even if he is, his mother had no right to seduce the Demon King." The man snapped and it also snapped Kato out of his shock. "I bet his mother put a spell on him. The evil woman should've burned. Too bad she's already dead. I would've loved to see her suffer." He slurred and Kato gasped.
He felt Seth look at him but he was too focused on the man in front of him. "What did you say...?" He whispered, his voice barely audible.
"I said your mother was a whore." He said, smirking. "Even if you aren't his child, I can at least believe you're half demon. I can somehow sense that on you. But no demon can fall in love with a human." He sneered the word human like it was venom.
He couldn't feel his body. Sudden memories of his mother's warm smile flooded his head. The way she had patted his head and told him he was special and that the world around them was beautiful. Slowly, he walked forward. "My mother..." He started, his eyes wide as his voice rose. "Was not a whore." He stopped right in front of him, his face scrunched up in pure anger. "She was the most amazing woman this universe had to offer and if you so much as speak her name again, I'll hurt you." He snapped.
"You?" He raised his sword. "Please. I'll burn you for your insolence." He grinned wickedly and the sword came down.
Narrowing his eyes, he brought out his own sword, stopping it. The flames were hotter than normal, though they didn't hurt him. The man stared in disbelief, the woman beside him gasping.
Seth was suddenly at his side, swiping at his parents with his sword and causing them to jump back. The woman brought out her own sword, a blue sword like her children.
The other demons crowded forward. "Leave him be!" One yelled. "I bet his mother was fantastic!" Another one.
He looked around and smiled. They really were kind. And they built up the courage to stand against their fears.
"I'm stronger then all of you combined!" Seth's father barked.
"Yeah? Would you like to test that?" Kato said, placing a hand on his hip. "Anyone who treats their people like dirt doesn't deserve to lead. I wouldn't want any of them to live in fear." He straightened. "Don't ever talk down to them again! They're better than you in every sense of the word! Strength doesn't stand a chance against heart and they've got plenty compared to you!"
The couple growled and the other demons agreed quickly. "Those demons are worthless." He muttered, straightening and dispersing his sword. He knew right then that the man knew he was defeated. He bowed. "My apologies, your Highness." He said. "It seems I've crossed the line. I hope you can forgive me."
"Now you're trying to gain his favor?" Seth said in disbelief.
Kato asked the sword to disappear and it obeyed. The other demons looked at him curiously. "I won't forgive you." He said, glaring. "But I won't hurt you. I'm not a fan of harming others unless there's a reason behind it." He tilted his head and glared deeper. "Though I'll have to ask you to apologize to them for all the wrong you've done."
The man sneered. "You're not fit to be King." He said, looking him up and down. "We're supposed to be evil."
"By whose terms?" He asked, raising an eyebrow. "God? 'Cause if my information is correct, you're also supposed to despise God. So you're going to follow his lead?" He rolled his eyes. "I used to think demons were supposed to be evil. I didn't even believe in them. Now I know they're real and I know they're kind. Every one of them." He lifted his chin. "I may not be fit to be king, but I'll never put them in the hands of someone who won't even care about their feelings."
"You'll regret this." He said, growling and looping his arm around the woman's waist, stepping back towards the door. "I'll make you pay someday." Then he turned and dashed out of the room with the woman, leaving them alone.
"Shit. He ran." Seth muttered before turning to Kato. "Are you alright?" He asked and he nodded.
He stood staring at the door for a moment before falling to his knees, Seth catching him. "Just.... tired...." He muttered, leaning his head on his shoulder.
Franky walked forward and sat criss-cross on the ground in front of them. "Thank you so much, your highness." He said, smiling softly. "You broke us free from his terror. Even when Lucifer was King, that despicable man went behind his back and made us do his bidding. I bet he was glad to hear about your father's death and about being able to rule the Underworld."
Kato looked at him. "I'm just thankful no one got hurt." He paused. "But just call me Kato."
He chuckled. "By the way, you are definitely fit to be the ruler." He winked and stood. "I can feel it."
Kato smiled softly. "Thanks."
The other demons cheered and talked with one another as Kato relaxed against Seth. "You know, I was looking forward to meeting your parents before but I don't think they like me too much." He said, looking up.
Seth laughed, loud. "Yeah, that didn't turn out well. Truth be told, I was afraid of my own parents. But meeting you changed me." He held on tighter. "You changed us all without even trying."
He blushed. "I hope that's a good thing..."
"It certainly is." He kissed the top of his head. "It certainly is."
