Lucas
Song: I have no song today!
She’s avoiding me. All damn week, I haven’t been able to even say hello to her, she keeps running away. If I try to talk to her in class, she has headphones in or Brysiese just chases me away. I groaned and bashed my head into the table.
“That bad huh?”
I looked up and found a Blank smiling down at me with my coffee on her serving tray. I shrugged. “I think the girl I like hates me,” I said.
She sat my drink down by my head, took a seat in front of me and said, “You wanna tell me about it? I’ve found out that Blanks like me can be really easy to talk to.”
I sighed. “You wouldn’t understand. I made her hate me. She’s never gonna talk to me again.”
“How do you know that?”
I shot up with a glare. “I practically attacked her in her own home and told her if she truly didn’t want it to say no!”
“Did she?”
“Did she what?”
“Say no.”
I glared down at the coffee. “Well, not exactly.”
The Blank woman laughed. “This reminds me of my niece!”
Huh? “How the hell does this remind you of your niece?”
She giggled. “My niece is a Main just like you. She’s a great girl. Very helpful around here and is always getting young boys asking her out” she said. “This one time a few years ago, she had a friend that happened to be a boy and he liked to flirt with her, she never noticed though. They seemed to get along fine, but she came over a few weeks later crying. You know why?”
I shook my head. I was curious now.
“He tried to take advantage of her,” she said with a frown. “However, she gave him the weirdest knowledge about animals and humans she could think of and freaked him out enough that he left.”
“What do you mean ‘weird’?” I asked.
“Well, my niece is a girl that once she’s interested in something, she’ll do as much research as possible,” the Blank said. “She’s found some very weird and disturbing things, like how a bumblebee’s penis will explode if they have a orgasm or that the human intestines can hold a full grown man without tearing.”
This chick sounds a lot like Mia. “Um, would she happen to go the Main High?”
The Blank lady’s face lit up with excitement. “Do you know her? It’s so good to hear she’s making friends. She never had very many friends growing up,” she rambled.
“Well, what’s her name? Maybe I know her.”
“Oh! Her name i-”
“Aunty you’ve been gone for almost ten minutes. What are you talkin’ about?”
There she was. Dressed in a simple pair of light jeans and a white tank. Her apron highlighting her body perfectly, making her look almost motherly with her hair up in a messy bun, small strands framing her cute face. The afternoon sun made her almost glow like an angel.
“Oh Mia, we were just talking about you,” the Blank said with a smile.
She groaned. “You better not be trying to get me on another blind date Aunty.”
“Nope,” I said. “Just talking.”
Mia quickly turned to look at me in shock and said, “What the hell are you doing here?”
I sat back with a smirk. “What? I can’t come in to get a drink?”
“No.”
“Mia! Don’t be rude!” The Blank scolded her.
She looked away with a frown and mumbled a quiet sorry. Come to think of, why is Mia calling this Blank “Aunty”? They look nothing alike, and Blanks come from other Blanks. They can’t be related.
“Aunty, please attend to your shop,” Mia said.
The Blank chuckled and stood, patting her own apron like there is dirt on it. “Okay, okay,” she said. “But you need to go on your break.”
“I don’t need a break. I have to finish the other drink orders and start on the cookies and cupcakes for the party.”
If this Blank had eyes, she would’ve glared at Mia so hard. “Sam will take the cookies and cupcakes and I’ll take the drinks. You are going to take your break.”
“But I don’t wanna take a break!”
“Damn it Mia, be a good girl and go on your break!”
“I never do anything on my break! I just sit and watch people!”
I was starting to like this. It’s fun watching Mia argue with the Blank.
“How about you sit with this young man?” the Blank suggested.
“Yeah, why don’t you sit with me?” I repeated.
Mia glared at me. “Because I don’t want to. Got it?”
“Oh for goodness sake Mia, just take your break and sit with the boy!” The Blank said.
“Bu-”
“If you do any complaining, I’ll make sure you get stale treats for a year!”
Mia looked down in defeat, mumbling, “That’s little extreme.” She sat down in the Blank’s seat, glaring at me with crossed arms. The Blank herself left to dote on other customers.
“Are you going to drink that or just let it go cold?” Mia grumbled.
It took me a moment to even realize I still haven’t drunk my coffee at all.”Did you make it with love?” I picked up the cup and smiled at her, taking a sip.
She rolled her eyes but I could see a tiny smile start to form on her lips. “If you must know,” she said. “I made that with cat shit.”
I spat it out back into the cup with disgust, Mia laughed. “Oh my god you believed me!”
It was my turn to glare. “That wasn’t funny,” I said. “Never joke with a man’s food.”
“Well then I’m lucky I’m not messing with a man.” she smirked.
I feigned hurt, crossing a hand over my heart and gasping, “How could you say that?”
Mia giggled even more and sat back in her seat. “Oh come on Lucas, there is no actual definition of a man or woman, simply stereotypes.”
I shrugged and took drink. Holy shit, this tastes amazing! Even though it’s simple coffee it’s the perfect amount or coffee to creamer. I looked up at Mia with surprise and her smile grew even more and I could see a proud glint in her eye. “This is awesome!” I shouted.
“I know right?! We have the best coffee in the city!”
“How did you know this was how I like it? All I did was order.”
She laughed and handed me a tiny little notebook out of her apron. In was a detailed description of my looks, how I talked, and even how I walked and handled my money. “What’s this supposed to mean?”
“All I’m going to say is that right there is our secret recipe to any drink in the world,” Mia said grabbing the book out of my grasp.
“That makes no sense Mia.”
“And that is why you will always be a little boy,” she stood from her seat and kissed my cheek. “And just so you know, there is a coffee made with cat shit. Look it up.” With that she left, done with her break and venturing into the back.
