All through the long and dimly lit corridor, the roar of the golem echoed. The girl with the red hair was right. Something is indeed terribly wrong. Standard practice golems could not have produced such a horrendously loud sound. Considering it’s all but recruits that’s accompanying Staff Bryce inside the training room, Staff Bryce must be having a pretty hard time fending off whatever creature that is in the room.
Terrence pulled up his robe, his legs going as fast as they could manage. The last time something gave Terrence a reason to run, was when a bloodrooster decided that Terrence looked like a tasty snack for his hatchlings. Ever since then, Terrence had stayed away from most forms of fieldwork—and it has been 4 years since.
“Please hurry!” The red-haired girl instructed, turning her head to look at Terrence who was staggering behind.
“I…I knew the pork ribs were a bad idea…” Terrence groaned softly, lamenting his choice of food for lunch. “Were…were the corridors always these long?”
The red-haired girl dashed ahead, leaving Terrence in a figurative trail of dust. In his mind, Terrence secretly wondered why the girl chose to be a soldier instead of a runner. At her speed, she could probably circumnavigate the city in just three hours.
Terrence patted his robe with his left hand, ensuring the contents of his pockets. It would be disastrous if he had to return for the items later. At the far end of the corridor, the girl was peeking through the doorway, seemingly wary of the events unfolding within. She turned her head back, noticing Terrence’s chubby figure approaching in the distance.
“Over here!” The red-haired girl shouted, waving her right arm in the air.
“Huff…obviously, this…this is a straight corridor that leads to one…one room!” Terrence attempted to catch his breath, not forgetting to complain at the same time.
Terrence took a look behind him, trying to see if any soldiers have already arrived. It would be nice to have some additional support if the creature within was as terrifying as it sounded. However, no matter how hard Terrence squinted his eyes, there was simply no one in sight.
“Typical,” Terrence rolled his eyes, now finally approaching the room.
The creature within roared once again just like before, only that Terrence was much closer this time. There was no doubt. Whatever was in there, should not be in there. It sounded way too big to be able to make it into the room through the corridors.
“Go work in a mine they said,” Terrence whined, finally making it into the room. “It’s gonna be safe they said…”
Before his very eyes, he witnessed Staff Bryce hammering a colossal golem right in its right cheek. A chunk of rock flew off its face, landing only a couple meters away from Terrence. Amidst the dust, Terrence looked on in awe. A man fighting a beast that’s at least three times its size. Not to mention that the colossal golem could probably flatten a man with just one punch.
A tight grasp on Terrence’s forearm snapped him back into reality. The red-haired girl, still holding onto Terrence’s forearm, pleaded for his assistance.
“Please help him! And…and Milly too!”
Terrence scanned the area, finally noticing the blonde-haired girl between the feet of the golem. With that, Terrence finally realized the severity of the situation. One wrong move by Staff Bryce and this Milly girl would become a human pancake.
“Will do,” Terrence took a deep breath, regaining his composure. “Stay back, everyone!”
The recruits around Terrence took a couple of steps backward in a hurry while he took out a handful of stones from his left pocket. Swinging his arm forward like a pitcher, the stones flew towards the colossal golem in a straight line.
“Burst!” Terrence yelled in a commanding tone, causing the runes on the stones to light up. As soon as the stones landed on the colossal golem’s right leg, a series of explosions followed suit, resulting in the golem falling over to the left side.
“What the hell?” Leo exclaimed, surprised at the damage done by a few pieces of rock.
“Go get her! Quick!” Terrence ordered, looking at the red-haired girl.
Terrence then dropped a piece of paper decorated with runes onto the floor right before the red-haired girl sprinted towards Milly. Chanting something under his breath, Terrence observed as the red-haired girl grabbed hold of Milly.
“Milly!” the red-haired girl cried out as she held Milly in her arms.
Seeing this from the corner of its eyes, the colossal golem took a swing with his right arm, trying to stop the red-haired girl from getting away. Swiftly, Staff Bryce leapt before the girls, determined to take a blow for them.
“Staff!” Jace yelled in horror as the arm approached them. There was simply no way for them to avoid the attack. In fact, there was barely any time to react since the fist was already heading towards the group.
“Now, move!” Terrence shouted at the top of his lungs, scattering a few stones onto the ground.
