Drake and I have gotten closer, but I haven't gone to his house in a while.
"Drake." I said on the ride home from school one day.
"What is it, Nick?" Drake asked.
"Can we go over to your house tonight?" I asked. Drake looked at me for a second and then looked back at the road.
"It's a mess." Drake said, "We're moving." I frowned.
"Since when?" I asked.
"Since Dad divorced Vicky." Drake said.
"It went through?" I asked, "But why do you have to move? And where are you going to go?" Drake sighed.
"She used him." Drake said, "She got half of the money Dad saved up and the house is now hers. We're going to move to an apartment." I could feel my jaw drop.
"But your Dad had so much going for him..." I said, "I don't get it..."
"Me neither." Drake said.
"Are you still going to be in town?" I asked.
"Yeah." Drake said, "Those apartments near the bad side of town."
"I feel so bad..." I said, "Can I help you pack?" Drake sighed again.
"I won't be able to bring all of my stuff..." Drake said, "Maybe you can help me go through it?"
"Maybe." I said, "I'm just sad to hear that you have to move because of that horrible lady."
"I wish we didn't have to move." Drake said. I thought really hard for a minute or so.
"I know!" I said, "We have a finished basement and a spare room, maybe you guys can live with us?" Drake frowned.
"That's wishful thinking." Drake said, "Besides aren't you on the look out for that weird old guy?" I shook my head, but I'm sure Drake didn't see it.
"No." I said, "He's not allowed on our property."
"I wonder why..." Drake said.
"So, are we going to my house or yours?" I asked. Drake looked at me for a little bit.
"Mine." Drake said, "The faster we move out the faster we're rid of that lady." I smiled sadly.
"I'll call Mom and see if I can spend the night." I said.
"If you really want to..." Drake said.
So, we spent the rest of the day sorting through Drake's things and fell asleep late.
