She debated with herself for a while, even cleaning her glasses before actually ringing the doorbell of Savannah's house. Talking to her at Rosafeld was one thing, but actually going to her house was another.
Almost immediately, Savannah opened the door and pulled Alekto inside.
"Hey!" Savannah greeted excitedly. She led Alekto to the top of the stairs and into her bedroom, quickly sitting her down on the vanity. "You know you're ten minutes late, right?"
"Can you really say you're surprised?" Alekto tried, attempting make herself more comfortable with the situation.
Savannah laughed, picking up a brush from the vanity. "No, I guess I can't really say that."
Silence overcame them for a few minutes, but Alekto finally broke it.
"Why? Of all people that you could've had over before Crimson's party, you had me, Alekto, over," Alekto suddenly burst. Her outburst surprised Savannah who was tying up her hair.
"I've been meaning to ask about your name. 'Alekto', what does it mean?" Savannah questioned. Alekto blushed as she recalled what her name meant, and why her parents named her that particular name.
She bit her lip before answering, "It's, uh, the name of one of the Furies in Greek Mythology. My father is a historian, specializing in Greek Mythology. My sisters' names are Tisiphone and Megaera, so I guess it could be worse for me. Tisiphone is the avenger of murder, ironic because she's studying criminal investigation to join the FBI. Megaera is jealousy, which is also kinda ironic since she's one of the most humble people I know. And, uh, Alekto is constant anger."
Savannah burst with laughter, having to put the makeup brush she was holding down to catch her breath as she laughed. "'Constant anger'? You're one of the gentlest people I know! That's hysterical."
A rush of red covered her cheeks and ears as she recalled the meaning of her name. She really wished she hadn't told Savannah. The only person that ever knew was her family, and her best friend, Eila.
Eila. Alekto should be spending time with her, not Savannah. What was she doing here?
In her mind, she tried to push away all the doubts she had about the party Savannah was dragging her to. Eila had said she was okay to spend this night alone. It was Friday, and she wanted to finish this book she had been raving about.
She was more than fine with staying home alone.
It took an hour for Savannah to finally lay off of Alekto's makeup. She leaned back from Alekto to inspect it all. Her hair was in an intricate side braid, and her makeup was flawless.
Savannah had already gotten ready before Alekto, and her makeup was much darker than Alekto's. She had on a red dress, and Alekto wore a looser floral dress.
"You look fantastic!" Savannah squealed, helping Alekto to stand up. She slid on her black ballet flats while Savannah strapped on her high heels.
"So do you," Alekto complemented shyly. She never really wore makeup. Her sisters never really taught her how to. Like her, they were more concerned with their grades than to mess with that kind of stuff. Her mother was also too busy with work as a nuclear engineer to concern herself with matters like that.
"Shall we?" Savannah asked, jokingly. A small smile caressed her lips as she laughed.
"Of course," Alekto nodded. Savannah ushered her into her Jeep, and they drove off to Crimson's party.
