—Nothing— Oliver shaked his head believing everything told by Emily was some kind of joke— Magic doesn't really exist, it's just a fairly tale, children stories, something used in fantasy books. You're clearly making this up.
—No, she's not— when Jayden spoke, Oliver looked at him very surprised— She's telling the truth. Well, at least I know she's not lying when she says she's a Magician.
—And how do you know that?— asked Oliver a little bit upset by the fact that his friend corrected him, and not the woman he didn't know.
—Because...— Jay hesitated for a second— ...because I'm one too— and at that point, the black haired boy showed Oliver his hand, in which a small flame started to glow.
As Oliver looked shocked at his friend, Emily watched them both with a pensative gesture on her face.
—Interesting...— she said— I've been thinking «where do I know him» since the first time I saw you, because you were familiar to me, and now I get it. You remind me of someone I know in my own time... It is, by any chance, Jasper Fogelmanis your father?
Oliver wanted to shout «Don't...!» when he heard Emily talking about Jay's father, but it was too late. His friend's face was already serious, solemn and sad— as always when someone mentioned one of his parents.
—He was— explained Jay with a deep voice— He and my mum died three years ago. I've been living with this stupid monkey and his parents since.
—Oh, I'm so sorry, Jay...that's your name, right? I'm really sorry. I don't know Jasper a lot, but he's always nice and friendly. It mus be tough for you.
Jay looked away as if he didn't want to admit it— after all, he really loved his parents and missed them very much. But Oliver couldn't feel sorry for him right now. His mind was settled in another thing.
—Okay, no, wait, so magic is real? How do you did that thing with the fire? I wanna do it too, teach me!— of course, in a world where magic existed, it was obvious that Jayden would be a part of the special people and Oliver didn't. Jay was always making him feel inferior, even though he wasn't always superior to him.
—It is— Emily nodded— It's very real. You can use it, everyone can use it, Magic is not a genetic thing, but a will thing. Anyone can awake the power that's inside all of us, but it requires years and years of work. That's why there's no much Magicians in the world. And that's why, too, we keep our existence a secret. Humans would try to solve everything with Magic, and the balance of the world...
—...would be broken— ended Jay for her— So Doom is the son of some important Magicians. And I thought he was the most regular guy in the whole planet! I bet Christina and Raphael know something about all of this. I mean, they have two Magic kids in their house, what are the odds?
—But I'm not the son of «some important magicians»!— Oliver was pretty mad at this point. He always said he had the most cool parents in the whole world, and now someone was trying to tell him they were not his parents?— My mum is Christina Doom and my dad is Raphael Doom. I'm sorry, Emily, but, as you see, you have the wrong guy. Look up to someone else to ask for help.
