We make our way home along a dirt road that had trees on both sides of it in which the branches made an arch over us, kind of like a canopy. Leaves from the trees lay scattered on the road as we walked through them, leaving a little pathway left behind us as we did so. The town of Vsupor was a few miles away but yet every time I went there, I had to wear a mask when going into town. I asked mom and dad before but they didn't even say anything. I even asked Tina but she as well didn't say anything but "I don't know why you have to. Just leave it alone. Maybe mom and dad just don't want to tell you yet."
I am 17 years old. I think I am old enough to know what's going on. But I didn't argue with it. As we made our way up to the small wooden house, I could see mom just coming outside to greet us.
"There you are. I was worried something bad happened to you." She said with a worried look on her face.
Mom had blonde hair and blue eyes and wore a pale blue dress with a brown apron covering the front. She also wore brown shoes there were the color of mud. She was tall and curvy. Her heart shaped face was covered in dirt and her bow shaped lips were pale pink. Her long blonde hair was tied in a bun obviously since she had to help work at home than work somewhere else like a bakery.
That was mom's wish to own and work in a bakery but she couldn't due to her getting married and well having us. Plus the pay from working on a farm isn't very much so we were kind of poor. but mom didn't regret having us or getting married to dad. She was happy and just wanted us to be happy and that was good enough for her.
"Sorry mom. Faye was climbing a tree again." Tina confessed.
"Tina! Thanks for ratting me out!" I said, annoyed by her telling mom again.
"Now Faye. You know very well that you shouldn't climb trees. You could fall and hurt yourself. Tina is only looking out for you. Now come inside and help me start dinner, Tina. Faye, go see if your dad needs anything done around the barn." She said.
"Yes, mom." we both said to her.
Tina then follows mom inside the house while I go find dad.
The barn was a little north of the house with a small fence area to hold the cows while they grazed. The barn was old and a bit worn down but still was in working condition to hold livestock. The chicken coop was a few feet away from the barn near the outhouse. The fence around the coop made sure that the chickens didn't escape and so that no one or any animals could steal them.
I found dad just coming out of the barn covered in sweat and a little dirt. He had black hair and green eyes. He was a tall man and was wise beyond his years. He had tanned skin from working on the farm for many years and wore a grey shirt and brown pants along with black boots.
"Hi dad." I said happily.
"Hi Faye. Need something?" He said with a smile.
"No, I don't need anything. Mom just told me to ask you if you needed anything to be done in the barn?" I said.
"Yes, I do need your help with something. Can you get us some water since I just finished all the stuff that needed to be done in the barn?" He said.
"Yes,dad." I said.
"Good. Now hurry along now, you don't want to miss dinner or get home late." He said.
"Yes, dad. I will hurry." I said.
I start to walk east of the farmland before I hear dad shout "And don't get into any trouble on the way there and back, you hear me?"
I turn back around and shout back "Yes, sir!" before continuing to walk to the river.
As I was walking towards the river, I swore I heard footsteps behind me. But it was probably my imagination. I stopped and turned around though just to make sure that no one was really following me out here. Nothing. I didn't see anyone else out here. So I continued walking.
I was glad I didn't have to wear the mask when getting water. My memory was fuzzy but I could have sworn I remembered the reason I had to wear it because of my eyes changing color. But that can't be right. My eyes are blue.
Plus I don't think that was the reason why I had to wear it. As I was lost in thought, I felt someone suddenly grab my arm and turn me around.
