"I just don't get it…" Ash huffed when he caught up to Garren's long stride.
"Why are the humans so afraid of what they perceive to be full Zodiacs, but consider the half-humans to be demi-Gods? If they are the demi, then we should be the Gods…" Ash trailed off.
“I think it’s simply because they fear what they don’t understand…” Garren mused.
“The ones that are half human, or at least are more human in appearance, they can relate to better. That’s why they are able to establish relationships with them. You or I, we just appear to be beasts to them. That’s why we’re hunted, and enslaved like animals. They blind themselves to our humanity, because to them we just look like animals.” Garren finished with a shrug of his broad shoulders.
“Oh, cut the bull shit!” Ash exclaimed, bouncing ahead of his Master, and walking backward to be able to look him in the face. “That’s what all you Masters, and Professors keep saying, but we all know there is something else going on here! And you're telling me none of you have figured it out yet?”
Garren sighed and shook his head. “There were many of us that felt a similar way before, but that was a long time ago….” Garren's voice was heavy. He was only halfway thru the academy when the Second Human War broke out, but he remembered when the Kingdoms of the Zodiac use to be friendly with the Kingdoms of Man. Yes, he remembered fondly those few years of peace that he had lived through.
Garren looked sadly at the backward walking Leo in front of him. Ash, like all of the young Zodiacs, had only ever seen the ugliness of humanity. It was no wonder to Garren why this younger generation supported the coming war so strongly, still though it hurt Garren's heart to not be able to find the words to get through to Ash.
Humans were just like Zodiacs on the inside. Some were good, some bad. Some kind, some cruel.
But it had been a long time since Garren had seen that kindness in Humanity, a long time indeed….
