“The sun is setting. “Sigh.” “I hate this wooden door with its stupid single window!” Danny says to herself.
“Sigh.” “I am not looking forward to meeting up with my father. Considering it always turns out to be something underhanded.” Danny says to herself as she shuts the creaking door behind her.
She stands in front of the window’s reflection.
“Lydia, you’re late.” A voice says.
“I am sorry father.” She replies as a dark shadow appears in front of her.
“My daughter I need you to do something important for me.” Her father says.
“Here it comes.” She thinks as she shifts her weight to her one side.
“I want you to keep an eye on this new boy at your school.” Her father orders.
“Yes father.” She responds not daring to roll her eyes.
“Good, how is the other task going?” Her father asks as his shadow flickers on the floorboards.
“It is well father.” Danny says as she looks down at the floor.
“A word of warning concerning the other task be weary of the full moon tomorrow.” Danny’s father warns.
“Yes, father.” She replies as she moves from in front of the now faded light reflection.
“Very well. You are dismissed for tonight; just don’t forget your objectives.” He says as his shadow disappears into the darkness of the house.
“Yes. Father.” She replies as she heads toward the second floor towards the only sanctuary that she has. Her windowed room.
She opens up her worn door to her minimalist room.
Danny flops down on her bed pondering, “I wonder why my father wants me to do this?” “More importantly why me?” “Because I’m the only child he has.”
“Alright then why I can’t I find the courage to just tell him no?” ”It is because I’m afraid of what he would do to Kip?” “Sigh.” “I wonder if anyone else feels like this. Or is it only me?”
“No use in getting worked up now, I should just go to bed.” Danny says as she starts to close her eyes.
