"Princess Elizabeth? You must wake up at once!" A high-pitched voice called, drawing me from my slumber. I awoke to find myself not in my room, but in a grand one filled with pink and purple things. The walls were striped different shades of pink, decorated with paintings of various magical creatures like unicorns, mermaids and fairies.
"What is it?" I muttered, rubbing my eyes to get used to the light. At my side was Mr. Sheep, wearing the same clothes I'd seen him in moments before. His beady black eyes were shining with worry.
"We must hurry; you're very late!" His arms flailed around and lightly hit the mattress with urgency. "Today's the ball, remember?"
"Oh, that's right!" I sprang upwards and jumped out of bed, looking in a mirror to see the pink bunny suit I was sleeping in. "Why didn't you wake me earlier you―oh, this is cute!"
Mr. Sheep coughed, turning away. The bells on his tan horns chimed against his black fur. "Indeed it is. You had the rabbit maids sew it for you, after all."
He bowed. "I shall leave now that you're awake; Ms. Bear will come to assist you soon. In the meantime, feel free to look around."
"Thank you, Mr. Sheep. Tell her to bring the cutest dress she can find!"
"Yes, Your Highness." The butler bowed, then headed out. Once the door closed, I ran to my dresser and pulled the top drawer open.
Everything I'd always wanted to wear was here! Sparkly blue gowns, pink frilly dresses, and lots of shoes. It was practically paradise. Before I could explore the depths of my clothes, a knock startled me.
"Come in," I muttered, more interested in my clothes than some uninvited guest.
"Princess Elizabeth? I've arrived with a number of dresses to pick from." A brown, fluffy tail peeked into the room, poking out of a black and white maid outfit. Ms. Bear struggled to walk in, as the pile of clothes she'd been carrying blocked her view.
I smirked at her shaking legs while settling into a nearby chair. "I won't help you."
"Y-You don't need to, Princess. Wouldn't want your hands to get dirty." She gave a huff before throwing my clothes onto the bed.
"Ms. Bear... let me see your face." I ordered, lifting my chin up.
"C-Certainly, Princess!" She turned to face me, squirming under my stare.
Her quilted head was plain―only featuring two black buttons for eyes and a small stitch for lips. I looked over to see a sewing kit on my dresser and smiled. I cracked it open, taking out some pins, needles and strings. "How about I make you pretty?"
Ms. Bear flinched and tugged at the loose thread on her ear. "I don't think that's necessary, Princess―"
"I didn't ask for your opinion. We'll get to the dress later; come, now."
She paused before bowing, then took a step forward. "I'd be honoured to."
I huffed and crossed my legs. "You should be."
I ripped open the dresser and took out a handful of fabric squares. For the next few hours, I went to work on her scalp and face. It was simply hideous.
Once we were finished, Ms. Bear exited the room first. Patches of her fur were replaced with cute yellow and purple patterns. Her big bulky button eyes were now small and beady, making her sight much worse. She bumped into a wall and cried.
I stepped out in a pretty blue dress with lots of frills and ribbons to match my blue eyes. "How do I look?"
She squinted at her hands. "You're lovely as always, Princess."
I twisted my dress around to get her attention. "What's wrong? Don't you like your new look?"
She gave me a shaky smile. "I love it, Princess. It's just a little hard to see, and the fabric is itch―"
Nonsense. I made you pretty. I flailed my arms up with a huff and shoved her out the way. "I don't care. Just hurry up and leave! Mr. Sheep will come back soon."
She got up from off the wooden floor and bowed again. Dummy. "Very well. Excuse me, Princess."
