I walked a little ways towards the kitchen before I realized that Charles wasn't following behind me. When I turned around I noticed that he hadn't moved from the stairs and was just staring at my dad, who also hadn't moved from his spot at the bottom of the stairs. “Is everything all right?” I asked looking up at Charles from where I was standing, the question more directed at the both of them rather than just one of them.
Charles turned his head to look at me but he never took his eyes off of my dad, getting a little suspicious I looked over to see my dad's eyes glowing red and his face was paler then usual but only by a small amount. “Dad!” I yelled out getting his attention,
“Were you trying to hypnotize my best friend so you could eat him later?!” I practically screamed with anger taking a few steps closer,
“You know for a fact that he's warded. Mother made damn sure to contact the local witch the second we became friends. It's for all of our protection and you know it.” I stated walking up to him making sure to put me between him and Charles.
“Charles go to the kitchen I'll be there in a few.” I said not looking away from my dad and waving my hand in the direction of the kitchen. Shortly after I waved I hear Charles run down the stairs towards the kitchen and almost fall onto his face just outside of the kitchen but he managed to still run into it. I heard him hit the floor hard when he ran into the kitchen, soon followed by serious heavy breathing like he was about to die because he was out of breath or was basically having a panic attack.
Me and my dad stood face to face for some time before his eyes finally cleared and were back to their original hazel colour “It happened again didn't it?” he finally said once his eyes fully cleared and he was back to his normal self.
“Yes. Does this have to happen every time Charles comes over? He’s not your snack.” I said turning in the direction of the kitchen.
“I'm telling mother when she gets home, and I suggest that when you get home from work you apologize to Charles. Luckily for him that will be tomorrow morning so he’ll have time to recover.” I said snarkily while I headed into the kitchen to meet up with Charles.
Once I walk through the opening to the kitchen I see Charles sitting on the floor with his head in his lap and his arms wrapped around his legs. This isn't the first time that has happened and it certainly won’t be the last, considering that this has been happening since the day I told my folks that Charles knew about me being part vampire. That day I brought him over to my place and sure enough my dad attacked him almost on first glance, after that my mother called up the local witch to do a warding spell on Charles so that no matter what creature it was that was trying to attack him Charles would be safe.
That sounds odd but see the way it works is that if a creature were to get hostile towards Charles and try to make him their food the spell would instantly put the creature into a paralyzed state, sadly that happened to me a lot growing up with him. I was unable to control my vampire side and when we were rough housing the occasional time I would end up trying to full-on attack him.
That all changed once I was taught to control my vampire side, and eventually everything seemed normal. Well as normal as it could be with me being half vampire and Charles being completely human. My dad on the other hand still can’t fully control the urge to kill someone, it’s what happens to people who are turned. People who are born into the vampire life have less anger than the ones turned, it sounds really strange that, that’s how it works but it is and apparently always has.
After walking into the kitchen and seeing Charles the way he was I grabbed him a glass of water and handed it to him. “Thanks,” he said after practically chugging the entire glass,
“Why is it every time your dad is home he tries to eat me?” He said putting the glass on the counter behind him and standing up. “I've already told you this.” I said trying not to sound like a dick,
“It’s the way he is. Now, still up for that movie?”.
