Lucas
Song: I won't say I'm in love by Hercules
I watched as Mia started to blush before composing herself and giving me a grin. “Do you have what it takes to steal it?” She looked so cute like that. Covered in frosting, a tiny blush still on her cheeks as she challenged me.
I leaned down even closer to her but as I did she started to lean back, trying to get her face away from mine. It ended up with me looming over Mia as she bent herself to an incredible backbend and somehow not falling down onto her face. To be honest, it kinda irked me. “What are you doing Mia?” I growled.
She looked up at me innocently. “You were going in for a kiss.” she stated.
“Um, yeah?” I pulled back rubbing the back of my neck in the awkward situation.
Mia suddenly stood up straight without any problem, like one of those training dummies kids use for karate. She shook out her apron to get some of the dried on icing off and looked up at me. “Maybe you should ask if someone wants a kiss Lucas.” she said calmly.
I sighed. Does this girl have multiple personalities or something? “May I kiss you Mia?”
She hummed in thought for a few seconds before grinning at me and stepping back. “The cafe is closing soon.” she says. “You might wanna start getting ready to leave.”
I came closer, determined to get a straight answer from her. “Mia, do you want me to kiss you?”
A slight blush covered her cheeks as she stared at me. “Lucas, you should go,” I could hear the nervousness in her voice. “We’re clo-”
“Closing, I know.” I interrupted. “I want an answer Mia. Do you want me to kiss you?”
“I-I- Now is not the time to be asking me that sort of stuff Lucas.”
I gently grabbed her wrist in case she tried to run away. “When is a good time?”
Mia started to panic and pull on my grip, I could feel her hands starting to shake. Was she really that nervous? “I don’t know. J-j-just not now, okay?” Giving me a half hearted smile, she pulled out of my hand and ventured to tell few other customers to leave as well. I watched as she started cleaning up before I gathered my stuff and left a fifty dollar tip.
Glancing at her back just before I left, I almost ran into a giant man entering. “Sorry man, the place is closing soon.”
The guy had black hair and almost equally dark eyes as he stood at a whopping six feet and seven inches, including the extra inch or two with his shoes. He was rather buff and I knew if I even tried to get in a fight with him, he’d beat me half to death without a flinch. He had on a black shirt with and dark grey blazer over it and black slacks. The dude must like black. I also noticed a start of a tattoo on his neck as he looked into the cafe.
He stared at Mia’s for a few seconds before answering with a gruff voice, “Is that so?” And left. What the hell was with that? I watched him walk to a black porsche and drive off before I walked my own way home, taking the train to Chris’s house to tell him my findings.
“What do you mean you saw told her you would steal her heart?” Chris asked in the middle of my story telling.
I leaned back in his desk chair and shrugged. “I don’t know Chris.” I said, “We were just messing around and I said I would steal it. It just popped into my head Chris.”
Chris was leaning on his bedroom wall, sitting on his bed. For a rich kid, he had quite a normal house and room. “Dude, I think something is wrong with you. All you ever do is talk about Mia. How great she is, what she did the other day that impressed you or made you angry.”
“I’m not like that all the time,” I argued.
He raised an eyebrow and tapped a few seconds on his phone before saying, “What about the guy that was flirting with Mia a few days ago?”
“I didn’t do anything.” I shrugged.
“You pinned the dude to the lockers and said if he talked to Mia again you’d beat him half to death.”
“Maybe I over reacted.”
Chris shuffled off his bed, walking to his closet and shuffling around for something. “I think you’re starting to have feelings for Mia.”
I laughed at his comment. “There’s no way I’m falling in love for her!”
He pulled out a magazine that was slightly ruffled and torn a bit on the edges. On the cover it said in big words, ‘How To Know If He Likes You’. Chris was shuffling through the pages as he came back and sat on the edge of his bed. “I stole this from my sister a while back when she was still living here.” he said. “It has some pretty good stuff in here.”
“Are you sure you’re straight?” I chuckles.
Chris just glared at me and stopped on the page he was looking for. “This should tell us if you really like Mia or you’re the one that’s gay.”
I leaned back in my chair with a smug smile. “Alright then, hit me with your best shot.”
“‘Does he look at you alot?’”
I scoffed. “Well of course I look at her! She’s hot!”
“‘Does he touch you a lot?’”
“That just means I like to touch her, nothing else.”
“‘Does he treat you differently than the other girls?’” Chris continued.
I stared at him blankly. “What the hell does that mean?”
“I think it means if you give her special treatment.” he suggested. “Which you do.”
“How do I give Mia special treatment?”
“You spent the whole day with her when she was a cat, you agreed to go on the date a few weeks back, you eat her pastries even if you think she could have laced them again.” he listed. “I can keep going.”
I covered my face with my hands. Could I really be falling for Mia? “Just read the next one!”
“Does he tease you?”
“I tease everyone.”
Chris’s shoulders rose up and he frowned as if to tell me I’m wrong. “You do tend to mess with Mia a lot. Even outside of school.”
“For fucks sake!” I tore the magazine out of his hands and threw it across the room. “It doesn’t mean I like her!”
