He saw him
it's sight brought a feeling the dreadful fear
by it's presence and just by staring at it; he slowly grasped at his axe with both hands tightly grasping the handle eyes staring in fear
its cold dark emotionless expression never changed from the man
he shut his eyes for a moment
thinking of before
-------------------------------------------------
"Harold!"
his wife cried out from they're home
"A blizzards coming.. you can get wood tomorrow!" she tried to calm him to come home
but Harold only looked back to her with a cocky smile and waved back to her
"I'll be home for dinner love~!"
he chuckled happily blowing a kiss to her as he then began to move through snow towards the birch forest
his wife only stood at the door with a look of worry as she held they're daughters close fearing for they're fathers life
--------------------------------------------------
he opened his eyes
tiredly staring back to the creature
and there it stood
no movement
no change
till soon.
the snow began to fall
and along came the blizzard
Harold stares worried as it gets harder to see he blinks trying to refresh his eyes
as he shut them for a moment it grew closer a meer moment away
his heart faced and his blood pumped
he stared through the snow with a rage unwilling to back down
he ran charging with a battle cry striking away at it!
only to hit a tree..
he looked around now panting against the cold air
he looked over his shoulder
then he felt it
the warmed
of his own blood
and the pain running through him as he then felt at his legs side feeling the long slash that has been made
he groaned in pain and yelled trying to run, only to fall on his knee he looked up seeing it his eyes widening as he saw it
the large slender figure Barley visible now against the snowing forest
the only thing giving it away was the blood on its claws..
Harold yelled a loud roar and stood up wielding his axe in anger and determination as he knew
he needed to go home
No.
He will go home.
He protect his family.
He will not die!
he roared loudly towards it as it quickly moved aside its albino body making him invisible to the surroundings
but Harold wasn't fooled as fast as it was as camouflaged as it may be..
as the red blood on its claws made its way to him and as he already caught him in his sight
he bashed at its skull with the back of his axes body as it fell unbalanced
he yelled out again and raised his axe in full length and stuck it down he did it repeatedly over, and over, roaring out as he cut it down
until the snow covered ground was painted in blood
he panted exhausted staring to the carcass he huffed exhausted until he felt a chill run up his spine
It wasn't the cold. but the knowing presence of something watching him
He gathered all the strength he had left and began to charge out of the forest never once did he look back the sounds of swooshing through the cold air and rattling with clickings and screeches perused him
as he made his way out to the open snowy plain he looked over his shoulder his eyes widen in pure fear.
There where hundreds
they blended to forest and snow
he couldn't even tell how many stood behind the forest line each ones cold lifeless eyes staring back onto him
He stood up using his axe as support and took one last glance before seeing
the snow stopped
the blizzard ended
he stared to them as slowly they began the chitter and fall back into the birch woods disappearing to the trees
he stared to one its lifeless eyes stared to his before turning away following after the others
------------------------------------------
on his way home Harold swore never to hunt during winter again as time went on warned his children to warn theirs never to go out into the forest during winter
his family continued to wonder and fear what was it that he saw out in the woods
what brought this man home scarred, an
d fearful, what made him fear the snow
his daughters would always ask they're father of why they where never allowed back into the birch woods but he only stared to the trees with a axe in hand
for Harold knows of what hides in plain sight
