Black Jack

15.

I quickly closed my door. My heart was still beating rapidly in my chest.

Well, that was awkward.

“Hey, we're back,” Peter announced as he, Julian and Quinton entered the room. I was already getting ready to shower. “Hi,” I answered quickly before rushing to the room door once again. “Leaving already?” Quinton asked. “I want to shower when there are less people, okay?” I retorted, leaving our small room.

I hurried down the hallway to the shower room. One person was already there. I stepped into the stall next to him and began to undress. I let the hot water burn away the events that happened after I went into Jack's room and the feelings that came with it.

Steam rose and quickly, filling the small cabin and clouding my sight. I let out a frustrated sigh.

It was really awkward.

-

“Do you have anything in mind?” I asked. His smile turned into a smirk, “well...” he started.

A few minutes later, me and Jack were still on his bed, laughing wholeheartedly. Although every laugh of him made my heart beat faster and cheeks burn up. I felt content, calm. I cherished every little moment I shared with him.

“Did he really do that?” I asked, still giggling. My stomach began to hurt, but I didn't care. “Unbelievable, right?” Jack said through his fits of laughter. “That totally does not sound like Gabriel!” The laughter finally calming down.

“You really have good friends,” I said looking at the ground again, “I had a complete different view of them.” “Well,” Jack began a little more serious. I risked a glance and saw that his smile slowly faded. “They're not that great, you know?” I listened closely. “Nick, for example, is actually pretty narcissistic and thinks he's better than everyone. And Gabriel... to be exact, he's just straight up-”

But suddenly the door burst open and I see Jack's roommates strut in, hands full of junk food and soda. I was practically mortified when they swung the door open with a loud thud. “Yo Jack, we got your-” Gabriel started, but immediately stopped when he saw me. He grimaced, narrowing his eyes on me.

“Hi,” was all I could squeak out with an awkward smile. He didn't answer and looked from me to Jack. He raised an eyebrow and began talking again, “what is he doing here?” I gulped. I could hear and see that he didn't like me – at all.

“Oh, well,” Jack started to explain, “we met in the hallway and I invited him into my room to hang out, because his roommates were also not here.” I was baffled. What? But that wasn't the truth! I wanted to talk with him, and I practically forced him to let me in his room... kind of. Was he really covering for me? God, he is so sweet and caring, I would have hugged him right there and now if it wasn't for his friends present.

“I see”, Gabriel simply said, “and for that you had to be shirtless?” he just continued in a cold tone. I almost gasped. That was right. He was still shirtless. Another stupid mistake – because of me. “Oh, I wanted to shower, that's why. Like I said, we met in the hall,” Jack said with a shrug. “Hmm,” Gabriel responded with a grunt.

I realized the graveness of the situation and wanted to be somewhere far away, like, right now! “Uhm,” I tried to attract everyone's attention, “I will leave now. I'm sorry for the disturbance,” I added quietly before rushing out of the room.

Back in my room I let out a breath I was holding in for a while now. I laid on my bed and thought.

Stupid.

I turned to our window.

But...

I turned to our door.

I extended my hand.

But-

-

Steam rose and quickly, filling the small cabin and clouding my sight. I let out a frustrated sigh.

What was I thinking...?

The water from the shower next to me stopped running and someone stepped out. I was ripped away from my train of thoughts, a new one running circles in my mind.

Wait... maybe...?

No – definitely!

I stopped showering. I quickly put a towel around my waist.

Come on!

I dashed out of the shower, immediately spotting Jack outside, who was drying himself, looking rather surprised.

I quickly got rid of my subconscious smile and looked away, blushing. He was dressed like me.

Black Jack is novel, based on my little diary-like story 'Marylebone', which is narrated by a boy struggling and coping with his first love, describing his adventures in the city of London and what happens between him and the handsome Jack, as they're accompanied by 24 other students, who may or may not influence this love story for the better - or worse.

I'll upload every Wensday, 12 AM PST, with as much chapters finished by then. If I have no chapters finished, then there will be no update, easy as that!
