He woke to a bright light. “How long have I been sleeping?” Jack asked a man that sat near him. The man pondered and said, “Almost an afternoon.” Jack was amazed of how long he slept. The man glanced at him and quickly rushed out of the room. Jack didn’t know why, but he guessed because the man needed to go somewhere.
Jack saw a stack of clothes. For me. he thought. He grabbed the clothes and put them on. They felt comfortable and was glad he had new pair of clothes. It reminded him of the soft fur his Ma and Fa used to wear.
The clothes eerily reminded Jack of painful memories. Fa was lying on the floor. Ma was in the other shelter, cooking. Ma had lost her hearing, so she couldn’t hear Jack crying for help. Poor Fa, was helpless. He went outside to fetch water. As he was quickly gathering the water, the shelter busted into pieces. Jack dropped the pail and rushed back to the shelter. He saw no more Ma and Fa.
He was snapped back to reality.
“Who are you?” asked the girl that appeared in the room. “Jack.” “Jack what?” “Just Jack. I never knew my last name.” She nodded observingly. “Well, I’m Adina.” she said as she pulled out her hand towards his direction. A handsh-
Right then, a very tall mad walked in interrupting the awkward silence between them. Thank god. He thought. “Follow me, Jack.” said the man. “How do you-” “Just follow me.” he said with an eerily pleasing smile.
“Take a seat.” the man said to Jack as they reached a place. As Jack was taking a seat the man asked, “Do you remember me?” Jack shook his head.
“I’m your Uncle.”
