Chapter 5: Returning
Simon walked into the house and sat on the couch. He was thinking of the best way to tell Yuelia about his new magics.
“Hey, Simon,” Yuelia said, walking down the stairs.
“Hi,” he said, looking her way.
“How much power do we have?” she asked, sitting next to him.
“About a month’s worth… We can tell each other things, right?” he said.
“Yeah. Do you have something on your mind?” she said.
“Kind of… I made a deal with someone,” he said, taking a deep breath.
“Who was it with?” she asked, looking him in the eye.
“His name is Endro. The deal is that if I allied with him, he would give me a different magic everyday. This morning I got psycogic. And I’ll get another tomorrow,” he said.
“.... Is there a limit?” she asked, worried.
“Yeah. He said he’d only give me 7 magics. I can only get 6 more,” he said.
Yuelia was silent. She looked down, trying to process this. Simon lifted her head and looked into her eyes.
“I’ll be fine. I promise,” he said, smiling, “Besides, with the cap, there’s little to no chance of me becoming corrupted.”
She smiled, but still looked worried.
“Endro, was it?” she said.
He nodded.
“Hm…. I’ll have to do some research to see what you’ve gotten yourself into,” she said, getting up and walking to her office.
“That could’ve went better,” Endro said, appearing out of nowhere.
“Oh Cybel! You scared the crap out of me!” Simon said.
“Sorry. Just commenting on how you basically screwed yourself over,” Endro said.
“What?” Simon asked.
“She’s going to look in every book that has anything to do with any species on overworld, then she’s not going to find me in there, then she’s going to search for me in hopes of finding me, but she won’t,” Endro said.
“How do you know this?” Simon said.
“I control time. Anything that can happen in a specific time, I know about it,” Endro said.
“Why can’t you let her see you?” Simon asked.
Endro’s eyes got wide as he thought about it. Then he shrugged and walked to her office.
“Hey,” He said, stepping in.
“Oh, who are you?” Yuelia asked.
“I’m Endro. I’m an ender. You’re not going to find me in that book and please don’t search for me. Yes, your uhhh…. Boyfriend? He made a deal with me. All I ask is his alliance and I’ll give him any 7 magics. There’s no harm in it. I just need some friends,” he said.
“Then why did you make it sound like you were going to start some kind of war?” she asked.
“That makes a lot more sense!” He said, smacking his forehead.
Yuelia shook her head and got out of her seat.
“So you’re Endro?” she asked.
“Yep,” he said.
“No strings attached?” she said.
“Well, when I need help, I might come over and ask, but other than that, no,” he said.
“Hm, okay. You’re off the hook. I’ll just need to study you at a later time,” she said, going back to her desk.
Endro walked out and met Simon in the hallway.
“Well?” Simon asked.
“She’s cool with it,” Endro said, giving him a thumbs up.
“I didn’t say that,” Yuelia said from the other room.
“Uhh…. still unknown,” Endro corrected himself.
Simon smiled and shook his head.
That means she’ll find the science behind it, as always, he thought.
“What’s so funny?” Endro asked.
“He’s thinking that I’ll try to find the science behind all this ‘magic’ stuff,” Yuelia said, walking into the hall.
“Oh. Well, are you?” Endro asked.
She nodded. Then the phone across the house rang. Simon picked it up and answered it.
“Hello?” he said.
“Simon! Get here now!” Kyle said.
“Whoa, what’s going on?” Simon said.
“We need defenses and you need to get yourself at the docks!” Kyle said, hanging up.
Simon put the phone down and grabbed a coat.
“Where are you going?” Yuelia asked.
“The docks are under attack. Want to come?” Simon said.
“Sure!” She said, grabbing her coat.
“Ready?” He asked.
“Ready,” she replied.
Simon teleported himself and Yuelia to the warehouse.
“You’re here!” Kyle said.
“You act surprised. I don’t want to get fired,” Simon replied, ducking behind a crate.
“So is this a normal thing at work?” Yuelia asked.
“No. This happens every so often. Is it the same people?” Simon said.
“Uhh… let me check,” he said, looking out the door.
He saw a man throwing fire at some crates to get the shards inside.
“Isn’t that the guy that attacked you?” Kyle asked.
Simon walked over and looked. It was the guy, but where was the girl?
“I found him!” a girl's voice yelled from behind them.
Without even knowing what happened, he was teleported out of the warehouse and in front of the pirate. He looked down at Simon and lifted his head.
“Hello again, pendant spawn,” Teebs said.
“Why are you doing this?” Simon asked, sitting up on his knees.
“You’re important for something we need,” Shards said, appearing out of a cloud of smoke.
“But why attack my job?” Simon asked, standing.
Teebs and Shards looked at each other as they thought about it.
“We don’t know where you live,” Teebs said.
Simon rolled his eyes and looked at the both of them. After examining them, he started to chuckle.
“What’s so funny?” Shards asked.
Simon started to laugh louder and louder. Shards looked at Teebs with a confused look. He shrugged and looked back at Simon, who was now laughing hysterically.
“Um… why are you laughing” Teebs asked.
“You two really think that I’m going to destroy the world? Me?! I couldn’t hurt a fly even if I wanted to!” Simon said.
“I second that,” Kyle said from the warehouse.
Teebs looked confused, then he whispered something to Shards. She nodded and whispered something back.
“He is the pendant spawn,” she said a little too loudly.
“‘Pendant spawn?’” Simon asked.
“What?” She asked.
“What’s a ‘pendant spawn?’” he repeated.
“Uhh…. you. You are a child of blood magic,” Shards said.
“Your parents were thought to do blood magic. Having a pendant spawn is the epitome of the magic,” Teebs said.
“So… You think I, a kid that can’t hurt even the smallest of things, is a pendant spawn that will somehow rise up and destroy the world?” Simon asked, standing.
Teebs and Shards exchanged a worried look.
“The book said that would happen,” Shards said.
“What book?” Simon asked.
“I think that’s enough questions. Time to go,” Teebs said.
“But I want to learn more,” Simon said.
“I said enough, Simon,” Teebs said, bringing his hand up.
Simon felt something wrap around his legs and holding him there. He looked down and saw that rocks grew up to his waist. Teebs and Shards walked to their ship, taking the stolen whisper shards with them.
“Until next time, Simon!” Teebs said, smiling as he climbed the ladder to his ship.
They sailed off, leaving Simon stuck on the dock. He looked back at the warehouse and waited for Kyle and Yuelia to help. He wanted to call out, but he couldn’t find the words for some reason.
“Are you okay?” Kyle said, running up.
Simon tried to speak, but couldn’t.
“Simon?” Yuelia asked.
Again, he found it difficult to talk. He tried to cough, but there was still no sound. Only a dark puff of smoke. Yuelia and Kyle took a step back as they watched him cough uncontrollably, still pinned by the rocks around his legs.
What did I do to get this? He thought as he continued to cough.
The rocks around his legs broke apart and he fell down. He grabbed his own throat, the dark smoke now bellowing out of his mouth. Then everything went dark, the last thing he saw was the sky.
