Charles and I started making some popcorn and pouring ourselves some pop to drink. He and I grabbed our favourite pops, mine being the usual coke and his being the classic orange crush.
Once we got our drinks and the popcorn was just about ready, Charles went to the living room to hook up the TV and see if anything good was on. When the popcorn was done and put it into two giant plastic popcorn bowls.
We used to have glass ones until Charles and I broke them coming down the stairs on our last movie night, the bowls shattered everywhere and the house was practically covered in butter and popcorn. I swear if my parents could have grounded both of us they would have, however I was grounded for a week while Charles was only forced to clean up then went home and his parents still don't know about that popcorn accident.
After the popcorn was done I carried the two giant bowls over to the couch and put them on the coffee table before hopping onto the couch I usually call mine while Charles is on the couch next to mine. We grab our bowls and watch the TV as Charles is still trying to pick a movie with the remote.
Eventually he gives up and walks over to hundreds of DVD’s we have lining the wall behind the TV then comes back only seconds later lit up like a Christmas tree holding a movie that I couldn't see through the dark due to my eyes not being fully adjusted yet. Charles smile intensified once he realized I couldn't see what the movie was, he rushed over to the DVD player and put the movie in. The second the movie started and the MARVEL title started I knew exactly what movie we were watching. “Really? This? Again?” I said giving him an evil glare from my couch, shoving a handful of popcorn in my mouth and turning towards the screen. I see him smile like a god damn lunatic in the dark and laugh,
“what?! You know Ant-Man is my favourite superhero!”.
“Yeah and mines Nova but that movie isn't coming out until 2022!” I remarked, the smile growing on my face but still annoyance in my tone.
Halfway through the movie Charles gets up from the couch and starts heading towards the back sliding door that leads to the patio deck where he usually goes for a smoke when he comes over, “be back in a couple.” He said walking out of sight into the kitchen and out the glass door, I heard the door open then slide back but not slide completely closed making a draft come into the house.
I get up mumbling to myself while I go to grab a blanket from the top shelf in the closet down the hall where we keep all of our “guest” blankets and pillows.
I get back to the couch and hear Charles yell out “yo Abe! Come here quick! There's something out here!” He said sticking his head inside the house to call out at me.
I dropped the blankets onto the couches and ran out the door to see what was going on. “I don't see anything.” I said before I heard the loud wolf-like growling coming from the back of the yard closest to the fence. Soon enough I could see a set of deep red and purple glowing eyes shining in the darkness. I took a step forward to get a better look at the beast when I felt Charles duck behind me and use me as a "human" shield.
“Can't you use your night vision thingy that vampires have?” He said from behind me still "trying" to hide behind his taller friend.
I turn my head to look at him for a second before I turn back to look in the direction of the growling “as far as I know I can't really do that, well not without blood. If I drank fresh blood all day everyday like a full vampire then I'd have that. But because I'm only half a vampire and because I don't drink blood really ever I can only hear their heartbeat or what they say from really far away.” I said taking another step towards the beast.
While I took the step forward Charles stayed put and the beast took a step towards me as well. Once me and the beast were practically face to face, the beast was about my height but only about a foot away.
