“We should go closer.” I said, standing on the sidewalk beside Liam.
“What if they’re inside and can see us?” Liam asked.
“We can try to go around back and see if there’s a less open and obvious entrance.” I suggested and he nodded.
Beside the building was a patch of shrubs and trees, so I directed Liam to follow me through them. It was quite overgrown from lack of use, but we managed to get through without many scratches. The trees and bushes went quite close to the two back doors in behind the building. I nudged Liam with my elbow and we crouched down at the tree line.
“We could definitely make it to the window there without being spotted.” I said and Liam looked even less enthusiastic than before.
“I guess that would work, but if we die, you are wholly to blame.” He said and I smiled.
“Come on.” I smiled at him and slid my hand into Liam’s.
“Let me go!” I heard myself scream.
I was strapped down onto a hospital gurney, wearing a tattered white shirt and black tights. The room was dimly lit, but the walls were clearly splattered with blood stains. A tray of surgical instruments were beside the gurney. They were going to dissect me like a frog in biology.
“LIAM!” I screamed louder than before.
“He should be here by now.” I said softly, terror evident in my voice, “Where are you?”
The single door to the room opened with a soft swoosh and a man in a black suit entered the room. He wore a cruel smirk on his round face, and his hair a soft honey colour. His dark green eyes gleamed with happy malice.
“Greg, please just let me go. I may be different, but I’m still a human being!” I shouted at him and he laughed loudly.
“Oh, my dear Charlotte, you are not human and neither are your friends.” He snarled, “I wouldn’t be shouting for Liam, cause he’s not coming. Get that through your stupid head.”
“Just let me go. Let me go before I hurt you.” I said.
“You can’t hurt me, you have restraints on your arms and legs. Just give up already, Charlotte.” He said as he moved closer to my strapped down body.
“I can’t let this happen yet, I have things to do and people to save. I still have to say goodbye.” I quietly sobbed to myself.
“Oh, do shut up.” Greg rolled his eyes at me.
“We have her.” I stated quickly and surely.
“Who?” Greg asked.
“Kim.” I said, smug.
“Liar. I just saw her an hour ago.” He said.
“That wasn’t her, you idiot. You should know that! If you let me go, we’ll give her back.” I spat.
“Stop lying!” He shouted, shaking with rage.
“I’m not lying!” I shouted in return, my eyes going a noticeable shade darker.
“What happened to your eyes?” Greg asked, a hint of fear and confusion clouding his voice.
“Like I said before, let me go before I hurt you and everyone here.” I said, and with that tone, I felt the fear I must have been trying to get across to Greg.
“The only way you are leaving this building, will be in tiny, little pieces.” He smirked and I watched as my body relaxed.
I closed my eyes and when I opened them again they were a pitch black holes in my scull. Greg looked absolutely terrified and that pleased me immensely, and I momentarily forgot the creepy eyes.
“You made your choice. I hope you will now realize what a huge mistake you made.” I said calmly and surely.
With a gasp, I opened my eyes and wrenched my hand away from Liam. I collapsed onto the grassy stones outside the building and stared at Liam, my eyes wide.
“You saw that, too?” Liam asked, his voice breathy.
I nodded my head in response to Liam and he continued to stare at me. We were laying on the ground a bit away from each other.
“We should leave.” Liam said, his voice stronger now.
“Okay.” I agreed quickly, the premonition freaked me out. The sun was already almost down anyways, making everything that much more creepy.
We got through the mini forest in a matter of minutes and were back in Liam’s car before the sun fully disappeared from view. I watched the building fade out of view as we drove away and tried to fight the sense of longing away.
No matter how scary that premonition was, I still really want to know what’s going on. Seeing what we did opened up a world of questions that we have no answers to.
“We have to come back here.” I said to Liam.
“I know.” He said, sounding defeated, “We’ll come back tomorrow, first thing, after a good night’s sleep. We can have all day in sun to check things out.”
“Alright, good plan.” I agreed and he nodded once.
I knocked my head back into the headrest and wondered if Greg was the one making the phone calls.
